Yes, YouTube monetization works in Pakistan: Pakistan is on YouTube's Partner Program country list, so you can join once you reach 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours or 10 million qualified Shorts views. The catch most guides miss is that Pakistan isn't on the lists for the 500-subscriber tier, Super Chat, channel memberships or Super Thanks.
Pakistani creators ask me two versions of the same question: can I get monetized at all, and why does my friend in India seem to get extra money buttons I can't see? Both answers sit in YouTube's own country lists, and once you know where Pakistan appears (and where it doesn't), you can plan your channel around the features you'll really have.
Where Pakistan sits on YouTube's monetization lists
YouTube publishes a separate availability list for each way of earning. I've read every one of them for this page, and Pakistan's position is unusual. It's included for the core YouTube Partner Program, so ad revenue from long videos and Shorts is open to you. It's left out of the lists for the fan funding tools that many creators lean on.
| YouTube feature | Listed for Pakistan? | Where I read it |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Partner Program (ad revenue) | Yes | YPP availability list |
| Expanded YPP at 500 subscribers | No | Expanded YPP country list |
| Super Chat and Super Stickers | No | Super Chat availability list |
| Channel memberships | No | Memberships availability list |
| Super Thanks | No | Super Thanks availability list |
| Shopping affiliate program | No | Shopping affiliate country list |
So when a video tells you to switch on memberships at 500 subscribers, check where that creator lives. For a channel based in Pakistan, YouTube's own pages point to the full threshold and ad revenue as the route.
The YouTube monetization requirements Pakistan creators need to hit
Because the 500-subscriber tier isn't listed for Pakistan, you're working towards the standard YPP bar. YouTube gives you two ways to qualify:
- 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified watch hours on public long-form videos in the last 12 months, or
- 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.
Here's the rule people trip over: YouTube says watch hours from private, unlisted and deleted videos, ad campaigns and Shorts don't count towards the 4,000 hours. If your channel is mostly Shorts, the Shorts route is the one to watch in YouTube Studio, not the watch-hours bar.
On top of the numbers, YouTube's checklist asks you to follow its channel monetization policies, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, turn on 2-Step Verification on your Google Account, have advanced features access and link one active AdSense for YouTube account. If you've had a channel taken down before, my guide on why YouTube channels get terminated covers the policy side worth reading first.
Applying for YPP from Pakistan, step by step
- Sign in to YouTube and open YouTube Studio from your profile picture.
- Click Earn in the left menu and select Apply Now.
- Review and accept the Base terms.
- Set up an AdSense for YouTube account in Studio, or link an active one you already have.
- Wait for review. YouTube says a decision typically takes about 1 month.
If you're turned down, YouTube says you can appeal within 21 days or keep uploading original content and reapply after 30 days. After a repeat rejection the wait becomes 90 days, so it's worth fixing the reason before you try again rather than reapplying on the first possible day.
How YouTube pays creators in Pakistan
Money from YPP reaches you through AdSense for YouTube. In Google's payment-method table, the YouTube columns for Pakistan show cheque as Yes, wire transfer as Yes, and EFT and Hyperwallet as No. A wire to a bank account avoids waiting on the post, so it's the option I'd set up first.
Google pays once a month after your balance passes the threshold shown in your AdSense for YouTube payments settings. If you want the monthly calendar in plain English, my explainer on when YouTube pays out each month walks through it. And if you're wondering how other earning apps get money to you locally, I've also written about earning apps that withdraw to Easypaisa.
US tax info for YouTube creators in Pakistan
This is the step Pakistani creators most often skip, and it can cost you. Google says every monetizing creator, wherever they live, must give US tax info. If you don't, Google may deduct up to 24% of your total worldwide YouTube earnings, not just the US share. Once valid tax info is in, the rate applies only to earnings from US viewers and ranges from 0-30% depending on treaty.

Google lists YouTube Partner Program income under 'Other Copyright Royalties'. The IRS treaty table shows 0 in the copyrights royalty column for Pakistan, which is why a correct treaty claim matters. Google can't decide eligibility for you, so check your claim with a tax adviser before you submit the form.
- Submit the form inside AdSense for YouTube under Payments, then the United States tax info section.
- Claim any treaty benefit by Dec. 10th each year, as Google asks.
- Google's certificate table names Pakistan's tax residency document as the Certificate of Residence (COR), useful if you're asked to prove residency.
- Google also warns that local tax law can mean a higher withholding on your payout, so keep your Pakistani tax affairs in order too.
Earning more from a Pakistan channel without fan funding
With memberships, Super Chat and Super Thanks off the list, I'd build several income routes around YPP rather than wait for buttons that aren't coming. That means:
- Treating long-form videos as the base, because ad revenue there is the core YPP income open to you.
- Using Shorts to grow subscribers, and keeping an eye on the 10 million view route if Shorts are your strength.
- Direct brand deals with local and international companies, agreed and invoiced outside YouTube.
- Selling your own product or service and sending viewers to it from your videos.
If you're comparing notes with creators elsewhere, my pages on YouTube monetization in Kenya show how much the feature lists change from one country to the next.
My advice for Pakistani creators chasing monetization
Don't plan your channel around features YouTube hasn't listed for Pakistan. Aim squarely at 1,000 subscribers and whichever of the two thresholds suits your content, get 2-Step Verification and AdSense for YouTube sorted early, and submit your US tax info the week you're accepted. Those three moves protect more of your income than any growth hack I've seen.
Frequently asked questions
Is YouTube monetization available in Pakistan?
Yes. Pakistan is on YouTube's Partner Program availability list, so channels based there can earn ad revenue once they meet the eligibility thresholds and pass review.
Can Pakistani creators join YPP at 500 subscribers?
Not according to YouTube's lists. The expanded YPP country list doesn't include Pakistan, so the 1,000 subscriber thresholds apply.
Are Super Chat and channel memberships available in Pakistan?
YouTube's availability lists for Super Chat, Super Stickers, channel memberships and Super Thanks don't include Pakistan.
How do YouTubers in Pakistan get paid?
Through AdSense for YouTube. Google's table lists wire transfer and cheque for Pakistan, with EFT and Hyperwallet not offered.
Do Pakistani YouTubers need to fill in US tax info?
Yes. Google says all monetizing creators must provide it, and without it may deduct up to 24% of total worldwide earnings.
