X Creator Revenue Sharing ended on 7 September 2026, and X replaced it with Original Content Rewards. If you were in the old programme, you apply for the new one in Creator Studio; if you never joined, the old 5 million impressions rule no longer applies to you.
X's own help page for Creator Revenue Sharing now opens with a banner saying the programme has sunset, and it points everyone to Original Content Rewards. This page covers what that means for you: the dates, the last payouts, the old rules for reference, and what to do next. It's based on X's help pages, read on 2 November 2026.
What happened to X Creator Revenue Sharing
Creator Revenue Sharing was the programme X paid creators through before this one. It sunset on 7 September 2026. The banner on X's page says that to keep earning, you apply to Original Content Rewards in Creator Studio.
X hasn't said much more than that on its help pages, and I won't guess at the reasons. What it has published is a clear timeline, and that's the part that matters if you were relying on those payouts.
The transition dates, in order
X didn't switch everything off in one day. Here's the sequence from its Original Content Rewards page:
- 7 August 2026: no new Revenue Sharing enrolments from this date. If you weren't in by then, you couldn't join.
- 14 August 2026: one of the final Revenue Sharing payouts.
- 28 August 2026: another of the final payouts.
- 7 September 2026: the programme sunset. Enrolled members earned through this date.
- 8 September 2026: access to apply for Original Content Rewards started rolling out to existing Revenue Sharing members.
- Around 11 September 2026: the last of the final payouts.
So if you were enrolled, your earnings ran right up to the sunset date, and X listed three closing payouts to cover them. The word "around" on the last date is X's, not mine.
The old rules next to the new test
The old eligibility rules are historic now, but they're worth knowing because so much of what's written about X monetisation still quotes them. Here's how they line up against what Original Content Rewards asks for:
| Old programme (ended) | Original Content Rewards | |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription | Active Premium, Premium Business or Premium Organizations | Active Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business, or a qualifying plan on The X Subscription |
| Impressions | At least 5M organic impressions in the last 3 months | At least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days, replies excluded |
| Followers | At least 500 verified followers | At least 500 verified followers |
| Payout rhythm | Every two weeks | Every two weeks |
| Minimum payout | $30 | $30 |
| Payout account | Stripe payout account or X Money Account, with ID verification via Stripe | X Money in the US; Stripe payout account and Stripe ID verification elsewhere |
| Getting in | Meet the rules | Apply and pass X's review |
Two tests that measure different things
It's tempting to say the new bar is lower because 500,000 is a smaller number than 5 million. I wouldn't. The two tests count different things, so the numbers aren't comparable.
The old rule counted organic impressions of any kind over three months. The new one only counts Home Timeline impressions from verified users over 90 days, and it leaves replies out completely. An account that grew mostly through busy reply threads could have cleared the old test and still miss the new one, while an account with a smaller but heavily verified audience might find it easier.
What you're paid on has narrowed too. Original Content Rewards pays on qualified impressions: unique views from Premium users on the Home Timeline, where at least 50% of the post is visible. The name of the programme tells you the rest. It rewards original content, so the reposts and lightly edited clips that some accounts built on don't count.
What stayed the same
Some things didn't change at all. Payouts still go out every two weeks, and the minimum payout is still $30, as of November 2026. The 500 verified followers requirement carried straight across. To withdraw, X still tells you to message @Subscriptions, on both the old and the new help page.
What former members should do now
- Open Creator Studio, then Original Content Rewards, and check your status. X began opening applications to existing members from 8 September 2026.
- Apply if you haven't. Being in the old programme doesn't move you across automatically, and X reviews every application.
- Don't redo your paperwork. X says your existing ID verification and payout method carry over.
- If your monetisation was paused for a past violation, you can't enrol at this time.
- If you're turned down, you get one appeal. If that fails, you can reapply after 42 days.
The full list of new requirements, the payout set-up and the content rules are in my guide to getting paid on X, so I won't repeat them here.

If you never joined the old programme
You haven't missed anything you can still get into. Enrolment closed on 7 August 2026, and the old 5 million impressions threshold no longer matters. The test you're measured against now is Original Content Rewards: Premium, 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in 90 days.
Check your country first. The new list is the old Revenue Sharing list plus Brazil, Georgia, Gibraltar and Kazakhstan. Pakistan isn't on it. The list on X's page is an image, so confirm your country in Creator Studio before you pay for a subscription; the plans are explained in my guide to X subscriptions.
My verdict
I'd check Creator Studio for your status today, and skip hunting for a way back into the old programme. It's gone, and anyone offering you a route back in is selling something that doesn't exist.
If you were a member, the hard part's already done: your ID check and payout method carry over, so the only real job is the application. If you weren't, ignore anything that still quotes the 5 million figure and judge your account against the new test instead.
