Wix Coupons: Creating, Limiting and Fixing Coupon Codes on Your Wix Site

Wix coupons are discount codes you create under Coupons in your site's dashboard, and customers type them in on the Cart page, the Side Cart or the Checkout page. You can choose from five types: a fixed discount, a percentage discount, free shipping, a sale price or buy X get Y free, and each one can have dates, item rules and usage limits.

This page is for site owners setting up coupons, not shoppers hunting for a code. And here's the detail that catches people out: a coupon expires at the same time of day you created it. Wix's own example is a coupon made at 7:40 PM and set to end on July 31, which stops working at 7:40 PM on July 31 in your time zone, not at midnight. If you're running a sale that ends at the end of the day, create the coupon late or set the end date a day later.

The five coupon types and where each one works

Not every coupon works with every Wix business tool. As of October 2026, this is what Wix's help pages say about each type.

A minimum order amount is a setting rather than a separate type. You can add it to a fixed discount, a percentage discount or a free shipping coupon, and it works with Wix Stores, Wix Bookings, Wix Restaurant Orders (New), Wix Events and Wix Online Programs. If you sell services, my guide to Wix Bookings covers the rest of the setup, and the coupon rule there is strict: booking coupons can't be used on free services, services with a custom price or services paid with a pricing plan.

How to create a coupon in Wix

  1. Go to Coupons in your site's dashboard and click New Coupon.
  2. Pick the type: fixed discount, percentage discount, free shipping, sale price or buy X get Y free.
  3. Enter the coupon code customers will type, and a coupon name. The name is for you only; customers won't see it.
  4. Enter the discount, sale price or buy and get quantities, then choose what it applies to from the Apply to menu: all products, a specific product, a specific category or a minimum order subtotal.
  5. For a fixed or percentage discount, choose Apply once per order or Apply to each eligible item in the order.
  6. Set the start date, and either an end date or tick Don't set an end date.
  7. Add any limits, such as a total number of uses or one use per customer, then click Create Coupon.

Want a discount on a group of products that don't share a category? Wix suggests creating a new category just for the sale and leaving it hidden from your site. And for one-off codes for every customer, the free Bulk Coupon Creator app generates up to 1000 unique codes per coupon, working with Wix Stores, Wix Bookings and Wix Events.

Settings that change what customers pay

A few choices have bigger effects than they look. Apply once per order discounts only the lowest priced eligible item, so a customer buying two classes with an all-classes coupon gets the cheaper one discounted. Apply to each eligible item discounts all of them.

With Include subscriptions ticked, the discount applies on every billing cycle, so a customer on a monthly subscription that runs for 12 months gets the discount on all 12 payments. You can set how many billing cycles a fixed or percentage discount covers. Wix also warns that a fixed discount larger than an item's price makes that item free, though shipping still applies, so only use one on items that cost more than the discount.

Coupons and automatic discounts work independently. If both apply, the customer gets both reductions. Automatic discounts don't need a code at all and can't be applied to product subscriptions; they're covered in my Wix Stores guide.

Why a customer can't apply your coupon

Wix's troubleshooting page lists five common causes, and most of them are settings you control.

  • The promo code box is hidden on the Cart page or Side Cart, or its link colour blends into your background. It's always visible on the Checkout page.
  • The coupon is out of date. A coupon set for a date range won't work outside it, and you can edit the end date from the Expired filter.
  • The coupon is deactivated. Find it under the Not active filter and choose Activate.
  • It's hit its usage limit. Repeat purchases by the same customer count separately towards the total.
  • The customer added a space. Codes aren't case sensitive, but an extra space makes them invalid, so ask them to copy and paste it.

One more for offline orders: if a customer pays with a manual payment method, a limited coupon's count only updates when you mark the order as paid.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Reusing, editing and deleting coupons

You can edit a coupon at any time, duplicate one for a repeat sale, or switch it off and on from the More Actions icon. Deleting is the one you can't undo, though you can recreate a coupon with the same details. Customers can't redeem a deleted or deactivated coupon at checkout. The Promote option next to each coupon creates an email marketing campaign or social post for it, and Wix Automations can send a coupon when a customer takes a set action, such as booking a service.

My verdict on Wix coupons

I'd use coupons if you want to reward a specific group, such as your email subscribers, because only people with the code get the discount. Skip them for a site-wide sale and use an automatic discount instead, so nobody has to type anything. Whichever you pick, deactivate rather than delete, so next year's sale is one click away, and test every new code on your own checkout before you send it out.

Sending the right coupon to the right customer at the right moment is exactly the sort of task that can run on its own. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.

Frequently asked questions

Are Wix coupon codes case sensitive?

No. Customers can enter your codes in any case, but an extra space makes the code invalid.

What time does a Wix coupon expire?

At the same time of day you created it, on the end date you set, in your time zone. A coupon made at 7:40 PM expires at 7:40 PM on its end date.

Can a Wix coupon and an automatic discount apply to the same order?

Yes. They work independently, so a customer can get both price reductions.

Can I undo deleting a Wix coupon?

No. Deleting can't be undone, but you can recreate a coupon with the same details. Deactivating is safer if you might reuse it.

Do Wix coupons work on subscriptions?

Some do. Tick Include subscriptions and the discount applies on every billing cycle. Buy X get Y free coupons can't be applied to store subscriptions.
