The Venmo Debit Card is a Mastercard debit card linked to your Venmo account that lets you spend your Venmo balance anywhere Mastercard is accepted. There's no fee to apply, and once you're approved the card should arrive within 10 business days, at a home address only.
Here's what trips people up. If the app shows a Get in Line message, you can't apply yet, and Venmo's support team can't speed that up. You don't need to do anything else; Venmo emails you when it's your turn. And Venmo says it will never ask for your card number or other card details, or tell you to download another app to fix a problem, so any message that does is likely a scam.
Getting and activating the card
When you're able to apply, Venmo confirms some personal details first. You can only have one active Venmo Debit Card on your account, in the name on the account, so you can't add a card for someone else. Specialty designs are on offer when you request a new card, and they work the same as the standard card, including spending from your balance and earning cash back rewards.
Business days exclude weekends and holidays observed by USPS. If 10 business days pass and nothing has arrived, contact Support through Me, Settings, Get Help, Chat With Us in the app and ask for an agent.
- Open the Venmo Debit Card section of the app.
- Enter the CVV printed on the card.
- Create a PIN, or enter the one you've already set up.
- Wait for the green notification indicator, which means the card's ready to use.
Once approved, you can see your card number in the app by selecting View next to Debit Card Details, and you can copy it for use wherever Mastercard is accepted. Venmo asks you to switch on a passcode or biometric sign-in first. You can also add the card to Apple Pay and Google Pay, or set it as your payment method at participating merchants from the app. Your billing address lives in the same section: tap the card image, then Update under the address.
Daily limits and cash withdrawal charges
| What you're doing | Limit or charge, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Purchases | $3,000 per day |
| ATM, over-the-counter and cash back combined | $1,000 per day |
| Card transactions | 30 per day |
| ATM withdrawal in the US | $2.50, plus anything the ATM owner charges |
| ATM withdrawal outside the US | $2.50, even with no currency conversion |
| Over-the-counter withdrawal at a bank | $3.00 |
| MoneyPass ATM in the US | No cost |
| Cash back with a purchase where Maestro or PULSE is accepted | No cost |
Every cash option, whether ATM, over the counter or cash back, can only come from your Venmo balance. At ATMs, look for the Mastercard, PULSE, Cirrus or MoneyPass marks, and you'll need your card PIN. Forgotten it? Reset it in the app by selecting your card and entering a new PIN. The daily limits reset at midnight Central time, and your purchases, ATM withdrawals and fees all show in your transactions feed.
Paying with a tap, at home and abroad
Look for the contactless symbol at checkout and hold the card within an inch or two of the reader. If the tap doesn't work, swipe or insert the card instead. One failure is probably the terminal. If contactless keeps failing, contact Support.
Outside the US, the card works anywhere Mastercard is accepted, and Mastercard sets the exchange rate. Cash withdrawals and cash back work worldwide too.
Adding cash at Walmart
You can top up your balance with cash at any staffed Walmart register, except in Vermont. Tell the clerk you want to add funds to your Venmo Debit Card. As of October 2026 there's a $3.74 fee, you need to physically swipe the card, and deposits over $300 need ID matching the name on the card. The deposit shows in the app as POSDEP*CASH with the store location.
- $20 to $500 per transaction
- Up to 3 transactions totalling $999.99 in any rolling 24 hours
- Up to 7 transactions totalling $3,000 in any rolling 7 days
- Up to 20 transactions totalling $4,000 per calendar month
Venmo points out that it has other ways to add funds that carry no fee, so I'd treat the store option as a backup.

Refunds landing on the card
Refund timing depends on the merchant, so ask the merchant when to expect it. A refund may sit as pending first while the merchant reviews it. If you see a deposit and then a withdrawal from the same merchant, that usually means the merchant cancelled or reversed the transaction, and the merchant is the one to ask.
Replacing a lost, stolen or damaged card
- Go to the Cards tab and select your card.
- Tap Replace lost, stolen, or damaged card, then choose Lost or Stolen, or Damaged.
- Select the pencil icon if you'd like a new colour.
- If the card was lost or stolen, review recent transactions: tap These transactions are ok, or Something's wrong, get support, and call Venmo.
- Check your details and tap Confirm. A confirmation screen tells you the new card's on its way.
If the option isn't there, or it's a teen card, Support handles it. If you've moved, Support can ship to a new address once you verify it with a document such as an unexpired driver license, a utility bill or a lease dated in the past 12 months. Cards can't go to a P.O. box.
My verdict on the Venmo Debit Card
I'd get it if you keep a Venmo balance and want to spend it in shops without moving it to your bank first. Use MoneyPass ATMs or cash back at the till for cash, keep big purchases under the daily limit, and treat Walmart top-ups as a last resort because of the fee. If you're looking at charges across the whole app, here's what Venmo charges, and if you send large amounts, check Venmo's weekly sending limits too.
