TikTok LIVE Symbols and Badges: What They Mean (2026)

TikTok doesn't publish one icon-by-icon chart for LIVE. Its help centre does name what you'll see: Gifts that pop up, a Fan Club button by the creator's name, member badges, entrance spotlights, pinned comments and faded flagged comments. This page explains each one.

Open a busy TikTok LIVE and it can look like a slot machine: floating hearts, little badges, names that light up when someone arrives. If you're a viewer, you just want to know what you're looking at. If you're a creator or run a brand account, you want to be sure you're reading the screen right.

Here's my honest starting point. I couldn't find an official TikTok page that lists every LIVE symbol with a picture and a meaning. So I've stuck to what TikTok's help centre does describe, and where something isn't covered, I'll say so rather than guess.

Why there is no single TikTok LIVE symbols chart

TikTok's help centre explains LIVE by feature: Gifts, Fan Club, comments, moderating, co-host, multi-guest and so on. Each page describes what a feature does and where its button is, but none of them shows a full icon key. LIVE and Gift features also aren't available everywhere, so what you see depends on your region and account.

That means a symbol you spot might belong to a feature that exists for some viewers and not others. If one never shows up on your screen, that's probably why.

Gifts and what the pop-ups on a TikTok LIVE mean

TikTok says that once a creator turns on LIVE Gifts and goes LIVE, viewers can send virtual Gifts that pop up on the screen. They let viewers react and show appreciation in real time. TikTok says creators collect Diamonds based on how popular their LIVE becomes, and at the end of the LIVE they see the total Diamonds in their LIVE summary.

So those animations aren't decoration. They're viewers sending Gifts. TikTok adds that receiving Gifts is subject to its virtual items policies, and that creators need to be 18 or older (19 in South Korea) and in good standing to turn the feature on.

The Fan Club button and member badges on TikTok LIVE

If you spot a Fan Club button beside a creator's name, that's the doorway into their Fan Club. TikTok says you join by watching a LIVE and sending a Heart Me Gift. Once you've sent it, you're added automatically.

TikTok lists several perks that show up on screen as you move up levels:

  • Member badges displayed next to your username in the LIVE.
  • Entrance spotlights, which highlight your username when you enter a LIVE.
  • Level-up celebrations announced during the LIVE.
  • Special Gifts to send, and access to the creator's exclusive chat room.

So a badge next to a name generally tells you that person is a Fan Club member. TikTok says you keep your fan status by collecting points within 7 days of the creator going LIVE, otherwise it pauses, and it sends a reminder if you're close to that.

Pinned and repeated comments in TikTok LIVE chat

TikTok says a creator or moderator can pin a comment to the top of the chat for a short time. That's how you see a welcome message or a question held in place. It also says that when the same comment is sent by lots of people in a short time, it's shown outside the comment area by default, and that this can be turned off.

Faded comments and filtered messages on TikTok LIVE

If you're the creator and see comments that look faded, TikTok has an explanation. It says that if you choose to filter community-flagged comments, those comments won't be visible to viewers and appear faded to you and your moderators. Community-flagged comments are ones the community previously blocked, muted or reported for being unkind, spammy or offensive.

Creators can also block keywords, mute viewers and turn comments off. If a viewer says they can't comment, it may be one of those settings rather than a bug.

Buttons along the bottom of a TikTok LIVE screen

TikTok's help names some labelled buttons you may see at the bottom while hosting:

  • +Hosts: starts a co-host LIVE with another creator.
  • Match: starts a LIVE match, a challenge between co-hosts.
  • Play: opens other co-host modes.
  • Guests or Multi-guest: lets you invite guests, or lets a viewer request to join, when it's available.
  • More ...: opens Settings, where you can change comment, moderator and safety options during the LIVE.

If you're considering going LIVE on another app too, my guide to going live on Snapchat is a useful comparison.

What TikTok LIVE symbols don't mean

  • A badge or spotlight isn't a verification mark. TikTok describes them as Fan Club perks.
  • A big animation doesn't mean a creator has been given anything special. It's a viewer's Gift appearing.
  • A faded comment isn't necessarily from a bad person. It's one the community flagged, shown differently to the creator.
  • Nothing in TikTok's help says a symbol shows a person's location or personal details.

Using TikTok LIVE symbols as a creator or small business

Knowing what viewers see helps you run a better LIVE. Say hello when someone's spotlight appears, tell newcomers what the Fan Club button is, pin a comment with your main point, and have a moderator handle the chat. If you want people to visit you afterwards, setting up Linktree on TikTok gives viewers one link to follow.

If a TikTok LIVE symbol confuses you

  1. Tap the item or the creator's name and see what opens.
  2. Update the TikTok app, since LIVE features change often.
  3. Check TikTok's help centre under TikTok LIVE for the feature in question.
  4. Remember some features aren't available in every region.
  5. For anything unkind or unsafe in the chat, report it, and if you're in danger, contact the police.
