So if you've landed here hoping for a free week of Peacock, the honest answer is that Peacock isn't offering one. What it does offer is a handful of other routes in, and a few rules in its terms that are worth knowing before you hand over a card.

What Peacock says about trials today

The clearest statement sits in an unexpected place: Peacock's help article about the STARZ add-on. Alongside the add-on details, it says plainly that there are currently no free trials for the base plan. That covers Peacock Select, Premium and Premium Plus.

Peacock's terms of service then explain how trials work when it does run them. It says it may offer the service on a limited, free-trial basis from time to time, and that both availability and length can be limited. In other words, any trial you see advertised will be a short-term promotion, not a standing offer.

How Peacock decides who gets a trial

This is the part most people don't expect. Peacock's terms say it has sole discretion over trial eligibility, and that it may use your device ID, your card or your account email address to decide. A new email address on its own won't necessarily get you a second trial if the same device or card has had one before.

The terms also say you may not get a separate warning that a trial is about to end or that your full plan has started. If a trial does come round, put the end date in your calendar on day one.

The student route in more detail

Peacock's student terms say you start at peacocktv.com/student, verify your student status through SheerID, then use the voucher code you're given when you join. The code is valid for 30 days from verification, so don't verify months before you plan to use it.

To qualify, Peacock says you need to be 18 or over and enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced degree programme at a Title IV accredited college or university. If you already have a Peacock plan, you may need to cancel it before you can redeem the student offer.

Getting Peacock through Xfinity

Peacock's Xfinity help page lists three groups who may be able to sign up through Xfinity: customers with an X1 TV Box or Flex streaming box, internet customers on Gigabit speeds, and Diamond or Platinum Xfinity Rewards members. There's one catch in the wording: it applies if you haven't already signed up for Peacock on Peacock's website, so check your Xfinity account before creating a separate Peacock login.

How to try the STARZ add-on for free

1. Make sure you have an active Peacock Select, Premium or Premium Plus plan.
2. Check that your Peacock account is handled directly by Peacock, not by a partner such as your TV or phone provider. Peacock says the 7-day trial isn't available through third-party partners.
3. Add STARZ from Your Account in Peacock.
4. Set a reminder for day six. Peacock says the add-on renews automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel it or remove it.

Remember that STARZ through Peacock only plays inside the Peacock app. Peacock says your Peacock login won't work in the separate STARZ app.

Cancelling before anything renews

Peacock's terms say you can cancel any time before the end of a trial or promotional period. For a normal monthly plan, the cut-off is tighter than people assume: Peacock says you must cancel no later than the day before your next renewal date to stop the next month starting.

If you joined through a partner such as a TV provider or an app store, Peacock says that partner's own rules apply, and you cancel with them rather than with Peacock.

Can you watch Peacock abroad?

Don't waste time hunting for a Peacock free trial code that doesn't exist. If you're a student, the SheerID route is the strongest option Peacock offers. If you're an Xfinity customer, check your account first, because you may already have access. Everyone else should treat Peacock as a month-by-month plan and set a cancel reminder for the day before renewal.
