Easy Apply on LinkedIn means you can send your application without leaving LinkedIn, instead of being sent to the company's own website. The catch is that once you've submitted it, you can't edit or withdraw it, and LinkedIn limits how many Easy Apply applications you can send each day.
Easy Apply is brilliant when you want to move quickly, and a trap when you move too quickly. A two-minute application is still the first thing a hiring manager sees from you, and there's no fixing it once it's gone.
Here's how it works, what the employer sees and the limits, all from LinkedIn's help centre.
Easy Apply or Apply: what the button tells you
| Button on the job | What happens |
|---|---|
| Easy Apply | You apply inside LinkedIn, through a few pop-up screens |
| Apply | You're sent to the company's website or another job board to finish |
Which one you see depends on the employer's settings, not on you. If you only want quick applications, there's an Easy Apply filter on the job search results page.
How to apply with Easy Apply on a computer
- Click the job title to see the full details.
- Click Easy Apply at the top.
- Fill in the information asked for in the pop-up screens.
- Click Review.
- Read everything again, then click Submit application.
In the app
- Tap the job title.
- Tap Easy Apply.
- Fill in the pop-up screens.
- Tap Review.
- Tap Submit.
You need to be signed in, and Easy Apply works in a desktop browser or the LinkedIn mobile app.
The no-going-back rule
This is the bit people learn the hard way. LinkedIn says you can't edit or withdraw an application once it's been submitted through LinkedIn. If you spot a mistake afterwards, the only route is to contact the job poster by InMail and ask.
That's why the Review step matters. Check the resume attached, your phone number and email, and every answer to the screening questions before you press Submit.
What the employer receives
- Your application goes to the job poster.
- Relevant skills from your LinkedIn profile may be included.
- If a recruitment agency posted the job, it may share your application with its other clients when your profile matches other roles.
So your profile is part of your application, whether you meant it to be or not. It's worth a quick look at your LinkedIn profile checklist before you start sending applications.
Saved answers and resumes
LinkedIn may offer to save your application details, including your resume and your answers, for next time. Switch that on and it can pre-fill future applications and use the information to recommend jobs. You can review, update or delete what's saved at any time before you submit a new application, from the Job applications settings page.
The Easy Apply limits
LinkedIn has added limits to Easy Apply to cut down on bots and rushed mass applications. It doesn't publish the numbers, but it does explain how they work:
| Limit | How it works |
|---|---|
| Daily limit | Caps your Easy Apply submissions per day; it resets at the end of the day, UTC |
| Speed limit | Sending lots of applications quickly triggers a temporary pause |
| Lowered limit | If activity looks inauthentic, LinkedIn may reduce your daily limit; you can verify your account if you think that's a mistake |
LinkedIn says most members rarely hit the daily limit. If you do, you'll have to wait until it resets at the end of the UTC day, which is midnight UK time in winter and 1am during British Summer Time.
A quick checklist before you press Submit
- Is the right resume attached, and is it the latest version?
- Are your email address and phone number correct?
- Have you answered every screening question in full, not just with yes or no?
- Does your LinkedIn headline match the job you're applying for?
- Would you be happy for this to be the only thing the employer ever sees from you?
If any answer is no, fix it before you submit, because you can't change it afterwards. Five minutes here is worth more than five extra applications.

What happens after you apply
Your application goes to the person who posted the job, and from then on the next move is theirs. You can keep track of jobs you've saved and applied for in LinkedIn's job tools, but there's no button to update the application. If you've got something important to add, a short, polite InMail to the poster is the route LinkedIn points you to.
It also helps to keep a simple note of which jobs you've applied for and when. Because you can't withdraw or edit an Easy Apply application, that note stops you applying twice or forgetting what you said.
Is Easy Apply a good idea?
It's fine for roles you're a strong match for, especially when you've tailored your resume first. Where it goes wrong is volume. Sending dozens of identical applications can hit the speed limit, and rushed, generic applications are exactly what LinkedIn's limits are designed to discourage. LinkedIn's own advice is to check how your skills match each job and tailor your resume and profile.
My advice
Use Easy Apply for jobs you'd really take, slow down on the Review screen, and treat your profile as part of the application. If you're unsure whether you're a fit, a short message to the hiring manager first can do more for you than a fast click.
