No, Luma AI isn't free as of October 2026. Luma's pricing page lists three individual plans, Plus at $30 a month, Pro at $90 and Ultra at $300, plus Team and Enterprise plans on request, and none of them is a free tier. Every video you make spends credits, and Plus includes 10,000 credits a month.
Luma is the company behind the Ray AI video models, and its plans now include third-party image and video models too. If you've seen older posts saying it's free, check the date. Here's what the current pricing page shows, and how many clips your credits buy.
Luma AI plans, as of October 2026
| Plan | Monthly price | Billed yearly | Credits a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | $30 | $300 | 10,000 |
| Pro | $90 | $900 | 40,000 |
| Ultra | $300 | $3,000 | 150,000 |
| Team | Contact Luma | Contact Luma | Shared team credits |
| Enterprise | Contact Luma | Contact Luma | Custom |
Plus includes Luma and third-party image and video models, edit access for guest collaborators and commercial use. Pro adds four times the usage with Luma Agents, and Ultra fifteen times. Team adds member management, shared projects, usage analytics and SSO.
How far 10,000 credits go
This is the bit worth working out before you pay, because credits run out fastest at high resolution. Luma's own rate table for its Ray3.2 model, text-to-video or image-to-video at the base SDR setting, lists these costs per 5-second clip:
| Resolution | Credits per 5 seconds | 5-second clips on Plus (10,000 credits) |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | 20 | About 500 |
| 540p | 50 | About 200 |
| 720p | 100 | About 100 |
| 1080p | 400 | About 25 |
HDR costs twice the base rate and HDR with EXR three times, so 25 clips at 1080p becomes about 12 in HDR. The practical tip: test ideas in Draft, where 10,000 credits buy hundreds of tries, then spend your 1080p credits only on the shots you'll keep.
Why there's no free plan
Video generation is expensive to run, and Luma prices everything in one credit pool across its own and third-party models. Its pricing page doesn't list a free tier or a free trial, so assume you'll pay to make anything you can download and use.
Free ways to try AI video instead
If you want to experiment before paying, some AI video tools do offer free allowances. My guide to what Runway AI is covers a close rival, whether Veo 3 is free explains Google's option, and my round-up of Luma AI alternatives compares the wider field.
How to choose a Luma plan
- Start on Plus if you're testing ideas or making a few social clips a month.
- Draft first, then render finals at 720p or 1080p.
- Move to Pro if you run out of credits before the month ends or use Luma Agents heavily.
- Pay yearly only once you know you'll use it every month: Plus at $300 a year is two months cheaper than paying monthly.
- Use Team if more than one person needs the same projects and credits.
Third-party models cost very different amounts
Luma's credits work across other companies' models too, and the rates vary widely. On its pricing page, Google's Veo 3.1 costs 140 credits per second at 720p or 1080p, rising to 280 credits per second with audio. That means Plus's 10,000 credits buy only about 35 seconds of Veo 3.1 video with audio. Kling 3.0 starts at 30 credits per second at 720p, and Seedance 2.0 Mini at 12 credits per second at 480p.
Editing existing footage is priced per second too. Ray3.2 video-to-video costs 36 credits a second in Draft and 144 at 1080p, and Reframe, which changes a clip's shape, costs 10 credits a second in Draft and 120 at 1080p. Before you generate, check which model is selected, because the same idea can cost several times more on one than another.
Before you subscribe to Luma
- Decide which model you'll use most, because credit costs vary several times over between models.
- Work out your monthly volume in seconds of video, not number of clips.
- Check whether you need commercial use, which Plus includes.
- If someone else needs to edit, Plus gives guest collaborators edit access, so you may not need a Team plan.
- Start monthly, then switch to yearly once your usage is steady.
The pattern I'd follow is simple: generate lots of cheap drafts to find the shot, then spend credits on one or two final renders. That's how 10,000 credits stretch across a month instead of a week.
Luma also lists Pro and Ultra as giving more usage with Luma Agents. If you don't plan to use agents, the extra credits are the main reason to move up a tier.
My verdict: is Luma AI free?
No. As of October 2026 Luma's pricing page starts at $30 a month for Plus, with 10,000 credits that make roughly 25 five-second 1080p clips or about 500 drafts on its Ray3.2 base setting. It's good value if you draft cheaply and render selectively, and poor value if you render everything at full resolution. If you only want to play, try a tool with a free allowance first.
