Is FaceApp Free? What's Free, What Pro Adds and Where Photos Go

FaceApp is free to download, and many of its popular features and filters work without paying. For every filter and tool, plus watermark-free results, FaceApp sells a Pro subscription with monthly and annual options, according to its own FAQ.

That makes FaceApp one of the more generous photo apps on the free side, as long as you're happy with the filters that don't need Pro. Below is what FaceApp says is free, what Pro adds, what the App Store shows for prices, and the privacy detail that matters more than the price. Everything here comes from FaceApp's own FAQ and App Store listing, checked as of October 2026.

What you can do in FaceApp for free

FaceApp's FAQ answers the question directly. It says the app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play, that many popular features and filters are included in the free version, and that you can edit photos and get good results without paying.

There are two extras people miss. Some Pro filters and tools can be previewed for free, so you can try them on your own photo before you decide. And in some countries a free trial of FaceApp Pro may be offered. The demo photos inside the app also show what the Pro version adds.

FaceApp free vs FaceApp Pro

BillingNoneMonthly or annual, through Apple or Google

FaceApp's FAQ says Pro opens up every filter and tool and removes watermarks. It also says all payments go through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and that FaceApp doesn't charge your card directly.

How much FaceApp Pro costs

FaceApp doesn't publish a price list on its website. Its FAQ says to check the PRO section in the app for current options in your local currency, and that the annual plan is usually the best value. The US App Store listing shows FaceApp PRO purchases at $10.00, $20.00, $60.00 and $100.00 as of October 2026, without saying which length each one covers.

You can cancel through your App Store or Google Play settings at any time, and FaceApp says you keep access until the end of the billing period you've paid for.

Does FaceApp keep your photos?

This is the question I'd ask before the price. FaceApp's FAQ says the photos you see in the app, edited or not, are stored only on your device. When you apply a filter, the photo is cached temporarily on cloud servers run on Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services, encrypted with a key stored on your device.

That encrypted cache is deleted automatically within 24 to 48 hours of your last edit, and photos you don't edit with a filter are never uploaded. If you want it gone sooner, FaceApp says you can request immediate deletion in Settings, then Privacy and Legal, then Delete Cloud Photo Cache.

On where the company is based, FaceApp's FAQ says FaceApp Technology Limited is headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus, and that it has no business ties to the Russian Federation. That's worth knowing if you've read otherwise.

Which FaceApp filters you can use free

FaceApp doesn't list every free filter, but its FAQ confirms one popular example: the aging filters, which show how you might look in the future, along with several younger looks, work in both the free and Pro versions. FaceApp describes its filters as a blend of machine learning and aesthetics for single-tap edits, from retouching a selfie to trying a new hairstyle or makeup.

On privacy, FaceApp's FAQ adds that it doesn't use your photos for any purpose other than providing the editing itself.

How to use FaceApp without paying

  1. Download FaceApp from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Pick a photo and stick to the filters that don't show a PRO label.
  3. Use the free preview on any Pro filter you're curious about before deciding.
  4. If a trial appears, note the renewal date in your Apple or Google subscriptions so you can cancel in time.
  5. Clear the cloud photo cache in Settings when you've finished, if you'd rather not wait for the automatic deletion.

How to cancel FaceApp Pro

Because the subscription is tied to your App Store or Google Play account, you cancel it in the store, not in FaceApp. On iPhone, FaceApp's FAQ says to open the App Store, tap your profile icon and select Subscriptions, then choose FaceApp. Your Pro access carries on until the end of the period you've paid for.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Photo enhancers work differently from face filters, and one of them is checked in the Remini plan check.

If a filter you used has disappeared

FaceApp says features can be changed or removed as the app evolves, for example when a tool is being redesigned, has low usage or doesn't work on some devices. So if a favourite filter vanished, it's not your subscription.

If you're comparing face editors, my guide to whether Picsart is free covers another app with a generous free tier, and my roundup of the best AI photo editors puts the main options side by side. My verdict: is FaceApp free?

Yes, for most casual use. FaceApp is free to download, many filters are free, and you can preview Pro filters before paying. Pro adds every filter and removes watermarks, and the App Store listed it from $10.00 to $100.00 as of October 2026. The privacy setup is better than its old reputation suggests: photos stay on your phone, edits are cached encrypted and deleted within 24 to 48 hours. If you only want the odd fun edit, the free version is enough.
