To verify your GCash account, open the app, tap Profile, then Verify Now, and follow the steps: enter the 6-digit code, your birthday, scan one valid government ID and take a selfie scan. GCash says you'll get an SMS update after 3 days. You need only one ID, but it has to be the original, valid, physical card.
Verification is what turns a Basic GCash account into a Fully Verified one, and it's the step that lets you send, transfer to a bank and get a GCash Card. If you're using GCash to collect online earnings or remittances, it isn't optional. Here's the process, the IDs that work and the reasons GCash rejects people, all from GCash's own Help Center.
What you need before you tap Verify Now
- A GCash account on a registered Philippine SIM.
- One valid government ID. That's it: GCash says you only need one.
- Good light and a plain background for the selfie scan.
- A phone with camera access switched on for GCash.
The IDs GCash accepts
For Filipinos 18 and over with a PH SIM, the accepted list includes:
- National ID (card, paper type or digital)
- Passport
- Driver's License
- UMID
- SSS ID
- PRC ID
- Philippine Postal ID
- HDMF (Pag-IBIG Loyalty Plus)
The detail that catches people: the ID must be the physical card, valid and not expired, not damaged and clear. Scans, xerox copies and photocopies aren't allowed, with one exception, the National ID. If you don't have any of these, GCash suggests getting a National ID through the PSA, and if you've applied but haven't received it, you can download your Digital National ID in the eGov PH app.
How to verify GCash, step by step

- Enter your birthday, confirm you're a Filipino citizen and tap Next.
- Tap Select ID and scan your ID.
- Take a selfie scan.
- Review your details and tap Submit.
Then wait. GCash says you'll get an update by SMS after 3 days.
Why GCash rejects verification
If you're rejected, the reason comes by SMS. The usual causes, according to GCash:
| Problem | What fixes it |
|---|---|
| Selfie blurry, dark or covered | Bright light, plain background with no other people, glasses and mask off, follow the in-app prompts like blinking |
| ID photo poor or details don't match | Original valid ID, no flash, whole card in frame and right side up, details typed exactly as printed |
| Too many selfie attempts | Wait 24 hours, then try again |
| Camera won't open | Allow camera access for GCash in your phone settings |
| Device not supported | Try a different phone or tablet |
The 10-day window
This one costs people a lot of time. When GCash asks you to fix your selfie or ID, you can resubmit within 10 days. Miss that window and you'll need to restart the entire verification process from the beginning. If you've resubmitted and heard nothing, use the follow-up link in the Help Center rather than starting again.
You can't verify in person
GCash says you can't verify your account onsite or in person at the moment, and pawnshops like Villarica don't verify in store either. Anyone offering to verify your GCash for you, for a fee or in exchange for your MPIN, isn't working for GCash. The only route is the app.
Verified isn't forever
Fully Verified users have to update their information regularly, as BSP requires. You'll get reminders by SMS and in the app inbox. Miss the deadline and GCash downgrades the account to Basic, and you'll need to restart verification. Your funds stay safe, but you'll lose sending and bank transfers until you redo it.
Once you're verified, you can link a payout service. Here's how Payoneer pays into GCash, and why Wise is another route for Filipino freelancers.
What changes once you're Fully Verified
Verification isn't just a badge. A Basic account can cash in, pay bills, buy load and receive, but GCash says it can't send to other users. Once you're Fully Verified you get Send, Bank Transfer, Pay Online, the GCash Card, GSave, GInvest and borrowing products, plus higher wallet limits. For anyone earning online, the bank transfer and GCash Card are the two that matter: they're how your payouts become cash you can use.
It also matters for receiving from abroad. Remittance partners and services like PayPal and Payoneer generally expect a Fully Verified GCash account, and the name on your ID needs to match the name the sender uses. Get the verification right once and those transfers go through without a fight.

My advice
Do it in daylight, with your original ID, in one go. Most rejections are a dark selfie or a photo of a photocopy. And don't leave it: GCash says BSP requires verification within 12 months of opening the account, or it's restricted.
