Meta Muse is Meta's personal AI agent: you message it like a person, in the Muse app or in WhatsApp, and it carries out tasks for you, from booking travel to filling in forms. To use it, download the app (it's rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and muse.ai), connect the apps you choose, then give it a goal and approve its actions.
Most AI assistants answer questions. Meta's Muse is built to do things: open a browser, fill in a form, book something, chase a task while you get on with your day. It launched in the US in September, and on 12 October Meta announced new Muse Wonder models that will power it next, starting with people on its upgraded plans.
Here's how to set it up, how its safety controls work (they're the most interesting part), and the jobs I'd try first as a small business owner.
Where you can use Meta Muse
| Where | What you get |
|---|---|
| Muse app on iPhone and Android | Chat with your agent like a messaging app |
| Muse on Mac and the web (muse.ai) | The same agent on a bigger screen |
| Message Muse directly from your WhatsApp chats | |
| AI glasses | Coming soon, Meta says |
Availability is the first catch: Meta says Muse is rolling out in the US. If you're elsewhere, you may not be able to sign up yet. It's free for most of what people need, with extra plans for people who want to do more.
How to get started
- Download the Muse app or go to muse.ai, then sign in.
- Connect only the apps you want it to use, such as your email, calendar or Instagram. You choose what it can see and do.
- For email, decide whether Muse can only read your mail or also send on your behalf.
- Give it one clear task to start, like planning a trip or finding a supplier, and let it build a plan.
- Approve or decline the actions it asks about. It checks with you before sensitive steps such as sending an email or buying something.
- Open the audit trail to see everything it's done and what it plans to do next.
How Muse keeps your accounts safe
This is the part I'd read twice before connecting anything. Meta has built Muse around a separate cloud computer, which it calls Muse Secure VM, and a second agent that watches the first:
- Its own computer. Muse runs on a dedicated machine in the cloud, kept apart from anyone else's agent.
- A guard agent. A separate Sentinel agent has to approve anything Muse sends to the internet, and asks you when needed.
- Hidden passwords. Credentials go into secure storage, so Muse can use them without seeing them.
- Hidden card details. At checkout it can use Link by Stripe, which creates a one-time card number so your real card stays private.
- No ad sharing. Meta says your Muse conversations and data aren't shared with its ad systems.
- Forget on request. You can tell Muse to forget specific things it's learned about you.
The catch people miss: Muse keeps working after you close the app. That's the point of an agent, but it means you should keep permissions tight at the start and widen them only once you trust what it does.
Muse Spark versus Muse Wonder
Muse launched on Meta's Muse Spark model. The newer Muse Wonder models, announced on 12 October, add what Meta calls Active Memory, carrying what matters across conversations, and Active Focus, sticking with a hard task, recovering from errors and checking in before anything important. Meta says Muse Wonder will soon power Muse, rolling out first to subscribers, and developers can already use it through the Meta Model API and Muse Code.

Tools that work with Meta Muse
Named here, not linked:
- WhatsApp, where you can message Muse directly.
- Instagram, which Muse can connect to, for saved posts and reels.
- Your email and calendar apps, with the access level you choose.
- Link by Stripe, used at checkout for one-time card numbers.
- 1Password, which Muse says is coming soon as a way to store logins.
- Meta AI glasses, where Muse is coming soon.
If you'd like help working out which tasks to hand to an AI agent in your business, and which to keep, that's exactly the kind of thing I help with.
My verdict
Muse is the most ambitious consumer agent Meta has shipped, and the safety design is more thoughtful than I expected. But it's new, US-only for now, and it acts on your behalf. Start with low-risk jobs like research and planning, keep approvals switched on for anything that sends or buys, and check the audit trail for the first few weeks.
