Snapchat Views List: How to See Who Viewed Your Story (2026)

To see your Snapchat views list, open your own story, then swipe up on any snap. You'll see an eye icon with a number, and a list of the people who watched that snap. The list is only there while the story is still up, which is 24 hours after you post it.

The list is per snap, not per story. If you posted four snaps, swipe up on each one to see who watched that particular snap. That's useful because people often drop out halfway through, and you can see exactly where.

If the screen on your phone looks a little different from the steps below, don't worry. Snapchat moves things around between updates, so if a name doesn't match, look for the eye icon or search the app's help for the word "views".

How to see who viewed your story, step by step

  1. Open Snapchat. It opens on the camera.
  2. Tap your profile picture or Bitmoji in the top left corner.
  3. Find your story near the top of your profile page and tap it to open it. If you want a quicker route, you can also go to the Stories screen and tap your own story there.
  4. While a snap is playing, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
  5. You'll see the eye icon with a number beside it, and underneath is the list of people who viewed that snap.
  6. Swipe down to close the list and move on to the next snap.

That's it. There's no setting to switch on first, and you don't need a special account. Every story you post collects its own list as people watch.

What the symbols next to a name can mean

Snapchat sometimes adds a small icon next to a viewer's name, and these are worth knowing because they tell you a bit more than a plain view.

What you seeWhat it usually means
Eye icon and a numberHow many people have viewed that snap
Screenshot icon next to a nameThat person took a screenshot of your snap
Replay or repeat indicatorThat person watched it more than once (this depends on your app version)
Saved or download markerSomeone saved the snap in some way. Snapchat may not show this for every kind of story, so don't rely on it

Icons change over time, and not every update shows every marker. If you're not sure what a particular symbol means, I've covered what the other Snapchat story symbols mean in a separate guide, and I've also explained whether Snapchat tells people about screenshots in chats, which works a little differently from stories.

Why some viewers show up differently

Sometimes your views list doesn't look like a tidy column of names. A few things can cause that.

  • Public stories. If your story is public, or it reaches lots of people, Snapchat may show you a total count and only some names, rather than every single viewer.
  • A plus sign or a number. When a list is long, you may see a plus sign or a total next to the top names instead of a complete list.
  • Delay. The count can lag by a short while. Close the story and open it again before you worry that a number is wrong.
  • App version. Older versions of the app sometimes show less detail than newer ones, so update before you assume something is missing.

I can't tell you the exact label Snapchat will use on your phone, because it changes. What I can say is that a smaller list on a big or public audience is normal and doesn't mean anything is broken.

Private stories compared with My Story

Where you post decides who can appear in the list. My Story goes to everyone you've allowed, which is usually all of your friends, and sometimes more if your profile is public. A private story goes only to the group you picked, such as close friends, so the list will only ever contain those people.

This is a handy way to test who's paying attention. If you share something with a small private group and one person always views it first, you've learned who checks the app often. It also means a private story's list is shorter and easier to read than the one on a busy public story.

If you've never set up a private story, you can create one from the story options when you post. Choose the people you want, and Snapchat keeps that group ready for next time.

How long the views list lasts

The list lasts while your story is live. Once a story has been up for 24 hours, it disappears from your profile, and the viewers' list goes with it. If you want to keep a record, you can save the story to Memories before it expires, but treat the list itself as something to check in the day you post.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

A simple habit helps here. If a post matters to you, such as an announcement for your small business, check the list a couple of times that day rather than leaving it to the end. You'll see how views build up and which snap people stopped watching on.

If you're running a shop or a service, that second point is gold. It tells you which of your snaps held attention, so you can make more like them.

Can people see that I viewed their story?

Yes. When you open someone's story, you appear in their views list, the same way others appear in yours. There's no honest way around that, and I'd steer clear of any app or website that claims to let you watch anonymously, because they often ask for your login details and put your account at risk.

A few manners are worth keeping in mind:

  • Assume the person will see your name. If you'd rather they didn't know you looked, simply don't open it.
  • Replaying someone's story over and over can be seen, and it can look a bit odd.
  • If a story feels personal, a quick reply or a heart is kinder than silence.
  • If you're the one posting, remember that the people on your list chose to look. A big number isn't a measure of how much anyone likes you.

If you want to know whether a friend is still posting before you tap, you can check whether someone's story is active first, which saves you opening an empty profile.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see who viewed my Snapchat story?

Open your story, then swipe up on a snap. You'll see an eye icon with a number and the list of people who viewed that snap. Do this for each snap in your story.

How long can I see my Snapchat views list?

You can see it while the story is still live, which is 24 hours after you post it. After that the story and its list are gone from your profile.

Why can't I see everyone who viewed my story?

If your story is public or reaches a large audience, Snapchat may show a total count and only some names. A delay in the count or an older app version can also change what you see.

Can people see that I viewed their Snapchat story?

Yes. When you open someone's story, you appear in their views list. There's no safe way to view a story without being seen.
