Discord verification is for servers, not personal accounts, and for most people it's closed: Discord's help centre says both the Partner and Verified Server programs are paused and not accepting applications. The one route Discord's newer FAQ describes is limited to games, through a game claiming flow.
If you've seen a server with a little checkmark next to its name, that's a Verified Server. It marks the official home of a brand, game, artist or well-known person on Discord. Here's what it takes, and why most people can't get one right now.
The short version
| Question | Answer from Discord's help centre |
|---|---|
| Can a personal account be verified? | No. Verification is a server badge |
| Are applications open? | The Partner and Verified Server programs are paused |
| Is there any route? | Discord's Verified Server FAQ describes the program as exclusively for games now, via game claiming |
What a Verified Server is
Discord describes Verified Servers as communities run by businesses, brands and well-known people. The badge tells members they're in the official home for that brand or person. Acceptance also brought a Vanity URL, a custom invite splash background and the Verified Server badge itself.
When it was open, who qualified
Discord's Verified Server requirements document says applications were paused from July 14, 2023. It was written for music artists, esports organisations and game publishers or developers running a server for a live, playable game. It even mentioned music artists who are verified on Spotify as a route in. That's useful context, but it isn't a live application path.
Discord's newer Verified Server Program FAQ describes the program as exclusively for games, with verification through a self-serve game claiming flow. If you make a game, that's the page to check; if you're a creator or a brand, there's no open route today, and it's better to know that now than to wait on an application nobody will read.
What verified servers had to have in place
Even though applications are paused, the standards are a good checklist for any serious community. Discord required verified servers to use:
- A moderation level of at least Medium in Server settings.
- The explicit content filter.
- Two factor authentication for moderators.
- Channel permissions that keep the server tidy, plus a moderators channel for staff.
Why the tick isn't the point
The perks of verification were a Vanity URL, an invite splash and the badge. The badge is the one people want, but what it does is help members find the official server and avoid fakes. You can get most of that benefit by publishing one official invite link everywhere you're already trusted, and by naming the server so it's obvious it's yours. A clear rules channel and visible moderators do the rest of the job a badge would do. It's also worth pinning a short message in your main channel that names your official social accounts, so anyone who arrives from a copycat invite can tell straight away whether they're in the right place.
What you can do instead
- Link your Discord invite from your website and verified social accounts so people know it's yours.
- Set up the moderation standards above; they protect your members either way.
- If you make a game, check Discord's game claiming flow in its Verified Server FAQ.
- Watch Discord's help centre for news of the programs reopening.
My verdict
Don't spend time chasing a checkmark Discord isn't handing out. Show members your server is official the simple way, by linking it from places only you control, and run it to the standard Discord used to require. If you also run communities on other apps, here's how to block someone on Telegram and how to report someone on Telegram.
