Take a snap, tap the sticker icon on the right-hand toolbar, then choose the weather sticker. It shows the temperature and conditions for where you are right now. You can also swipe through the filters on the preview screen to find a temperature filter, and tapping the temperature on the sticker switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
The weather sticker needs to know where you are, so the first thing to check is that Snapchat has permission to use your location. Without it, the sticker either won't appear or will sit there with no number. I'll show you the steps, the unit switch, the reasons it goes missing, and one privacy point that most people skip.
As always, Snapchat changes its icons now and then. If something looks different from what I describe, open the right toolbar and look through the tools, or search Snapchat's settings for the word weather.
Add the weather sticker to a snap
- Open Snapchat and take a photo or video snap.
- On the preview screen, tap the sticker icon on the right. It's the square with a folded corner.
- Look through the stickers for the weather one. It shows a temperature along with the conditions, such as sunny or cloudy.
- Tap it to add it to your snap.
- Drag it where you want it, and pinch to make it bigger or smaller. Then send the snap or add it to your Story.
If you can't spot it straight away, use the search box at the top of the sticker screen and type weather or temperature. That's quicker than scrolling.
Or swipe to a temperature filter
There's a second route that some people prefer, because it takes one swipe. After you've taken your snap, swipe left or right across the preview to move through the filters. Somewhere in that row, when your location is available, you may find a filter that shows the temperature across the snap.
Filters appear and disappear depending on your area and the time of day, so don't worry if you don't see one on your first try. The sticker is the more reliable method.
Switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit
- Add the weather sticker to your snap.
- Tap the sticker once. This can change its style.
- Tap the temperature itself. It flips between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Stop when you see the one you want, then send.
On some versions, tapping cycles through other views as well, such as a forecast. Just keep tapping until you land on the one you like. Picking the unit your friends use is a kind touch, because a friend in the UK won't know what to make of a temperature given in the other scale.
If the temperature isn't showing
| What's wrong | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Snapchat can't see your location | Your phone's settings for Snapchat | Set Location to While Using |
| Location services are off | The main location switch on your phone | Turn it on, then reopen Snapchat |
| Old version of the app | The app store page for Snapchat | Update, then try again |
| Weak signal or no data | Wi-Fi or mobile data | Switch between them, or move to a better spot |
| Ghost Mode confusion | Ghost Mode only hides you on the map | Leave that setting alone; check location access instead |
Ghost Mode trips people up more than anything else. It controls whether friends can see your position on the map. It doesn't block the weather sticker. What blocks the sticker is your phone's own location access for Snapchat, so that's where to look.
If you've checked everything and it still won't show, close Snapchat fully, reopen it and try again. A restart of the phone is the next step, and it fixes more than you'd expect.
Think before you post it
This is the part I'd want you to know before you start adding the weather to everything. The temperature is for the place you're standing in. A friend who knows roughly what the weather is like in different towns can narrow down where you are. A stranger watching a public Story can narrow it down too, especially if you post it at the same time most days.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- For a public Story, ask yourself whether you're happy for people to guess your area.
- For close friends, it's usually fine and it's a nice touch.
- If you'd rather keep your location private, send the snap to chosen people or post to a private Story instead.
- If you want to point people somewhere with your Story, you can add a link to a Snapchat Story without revealing where you are.
It's also worth knowing that Snapchat has its own little vocabulary of symbols. If you've ever wondered about the emoji next to a friend's name, I've put the meanings in one place.
Using it on a video snap
The sticker works on video snaps as well as photos. Add it after you've recorded, and it stays in place for the whole clip. If you move it, do it before you send, because you can't shift it once the snap has gone.
It's a good habit to check the number before you send. The sticker reads the weather at the moment you add it, so if you took your video an hour ago and the sun has since come out, the figure may have changed. Add it at the time you post, not at the time you filmed.
Ways to use the sticker well
- On holiday, to show friends back home how different your day is.
- On a rainy walk, to go with a short video.
- In a morning check-in, paired with a line of your own, like a plain "Coat weather again".
- In a before and after snap, showing how the day changed.
- As a prompt for your friends to reply with theirs.
Keep the text short, put the sticker where it doesn't cover a face, and don't stack it with five other stickers. One clear sticker looks tidier than a crowd.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't my Snapchat show the temperature?
Nearly always it's location access. Snapchat needs Location set to While Using in your phone's settings, and your phone's location services need to be switched on. Updating the app and checking your signal also helps.
Does Ghost Mode stop the temperature sticker from working?
No. Ghost Mode hides you on the map, but the weather sticker depends on your phone's location services. If those are off or blocked for Snapchat, the sticker can't show your local weather.
How do I change the temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius on Snapchat?
Add the weather sticker to your snap, then tap the temperature on the sticker. It switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit, though some versions cycle through other views too.
Is it safe to post the temperature on a public Story?
It shows the weather where you are, so people can roughly tell your area. For a public Story that may be fine, but if you'd rather not share your location, send the snap to close friends or use a private Story.
