To find events on Facebook, open Events (tap Menu then Events on your phone, or click Events in the left menu on a computer). From there you can scroll the suggested events, tap a category such as Local or This week, or use the search at the top. Your own invitations and RSVPs sit under Your events.
Events isn't on the main screen, which is why people often can't find it. On a computer you might need to click See more in the left menu before Events appears, and on the phone it lives in the Menu tab. Once you're in, there are three ways to find something to go to, plus a separate area for events you've already been invited to.
Find events on your phone
Facebook's iPhone steps are short:
- Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook, then tap Events.
- Scroll through Top events for you.
- Or tap a category at the top, such as Local, This week or Friends.
- Or tap Search in the top right to search for events.
The Local category is the quickest route to what's happening near you, and This week is handy when you're looking for something to do at short notice.
Find events on a computer
- From your Feed, click Events in the left menu. You may have to click See more first.
- Browse below Discover events for suggestions.
- Or filter below Categories in the left menu. Facebook's examples are Art, Fitness and Gardening.
- Or type in the search bar in the left menu.
| Way to find events | On your phone | On a computer |
|---|---|---|
| Suggestions | Top events for you | Discover events |
| Filter | Categories at the top (Local, This week, Friends) | Categories in the left menu (Art, Fitness, Gardening) |
| Search | Search in the top right | Search bar in the left menu |
| Your own events | Your events | Your events in the left menu |
Find events you've been invited to or said yes to
If you're looking for an event you already know about, go to Events and click Your events. Facebook sorts them into sections:
- Going: events you're going to.
- Invitations: invitations you haven't answered yet.
- Interested: events you've marked as interested.
- Hosting: events you're hosting.
- Past events: events you've attended or hosted before.
Past events is the answer to the question I get asked most about this: where did that event from last month go? It hasn't vanished. Click Your events, then Past events.
Respond to an event once you've found it
The buttons you see depend on the event's privacy. For a public event, click Interested or Going. For a private event, click Going, Maybe or Can't go. Choosing Interested or Going means you'll get updates from the event, and you can change your answer later from Your events by clicking your original response and picking a new one.
If the invitation came by email or text message, you can answer from the link in that message without logging in. Facebook says you don't even need an account to respond that way.
See which events a friend is going to
Go to your friend's profile, click More below their cover photo, then click Events. You'll see the events they're going to. There's a limit Facebook points out: you'll only see private events your friend is attending if you're invited too.
Add an event you found to your calendar
This is a computer-only route in Facebook's help article, and it's useful if you live by your calendar:
- Click Events in the left menu, then click Your events.
- Click the event.
- Click Options, then click Add to calendar.
- Select Add to calendar or Send to email, then click Export.
- Add the .ics file to the calendar app on your computer.
Keep the events you're interested in private
Here's the bit most people don't know. Depending on the event's privacy, people may see that you're interested or going in a Feed post, in notifications, on the event itself or in the Events section of your profile. For a public event, that's your friends and the hosts.

If you'd rather nobody knew, Facebook suggests saving the event instead of marking yourself as interested. Open the event, click More Options below the event's title and select Save. Saved events are listed below your upcoming events, so you won't lose track of it.

My take
For finding things near you, the Local category on the phone does most of the work. For your own invitations, skip the search altogether and go straight to Your events. If you're planning to run events rather than attend them, my guide to creating an event on Facebook is the place to start, and if Facebook's reminders are getting too much, here's how to turn off Facebook notifications.
