How to Duplicate a Page in Canva (One or Several)

To duplicate a page in Canva, hover over the page and select Duplicate page in its top corner. In thumbnail or grid view, click the page, or hold Ctrl or Command to pick several, then select Duplicate page in the toolbar. You can also copy a page thumbnail with Ctrl or Cmd + C and paste it with Ctrl or Cmd + V.

Duplicating pages is the single biggest time-saver in Canva. Build one slide, carousel card or worksheet page carefully, then copy it and just change the words. Your layout stays consistent and you're not rebuilding the same thing ten times. Here's how to do it in each view, plus a couple of tricks for copying lots of pages at once.

How to duplicate a page in scrolling view

Scrolling view is where you scroll up and down through your pages in the editor.

  1. Scroll to the page you want to copy.
  2. Look at the small icons in the top corner of the page.
  3. Select Duplicate page.

The copy appears straight after the original, ready to edit.

How to duplicate pages in thumbnail or grid view

Thumbnail view shows your pages as a strip below the design, and grid view shows them as tiles. Both are better when you're copying several pages.

  1. Select Pages at the bottom of the editor to show the thumbnails, or select the grid view icon.
  2. Click the page you want to copy.
  3. To copy several, hold Ctrl on Windows or Command on a Mac and click each page.
  4. Select Duplicate page in the toolbar above the editor.

The keyboard shortcut way

ActionMacWindows
Copy a selected page thumbnailCmd + CCtrl + C
Paste the pageCmd + VCtrl + V
Add an empty pageCommand + ReturnCtrl + Enter (usual equivalent)

Click the page thumbnail first, not an element on the page. If an element is selected, Ctrl or Cmd + C copies the element instead, and Command + D duplicates just that element rather than the page.

Duplicate a page vs duplicate the whole design

You want toDo this
Copy one page inside the same designDuplicate page
Copy several pages inside the same designSelect them in thumbnail view, then Duplicate page
Make the entire design into a new oneFile, then Make a copy
Move a design into another Canva accountShare it with Can edit access, open it in the other account, then File, Make a copy

Making a copy of the whole design is the safer option when you want a new version for a different client or month. You keep the original untouched as a master.

The catch: a design can only hold so many pages

If you're building a big document, such as a long workbook or a year of daily posts in one design, there's a ceiling. Canva's help centre says designs can have up to 350 pages, and if you need more, you'll have to start a second design. In practice, I'd split anything that big long before you reach the limit. Huge designs get slow to load and fiddly to scroll, and one design for each month or each module is much easier to manage.

How to move or delete duplicated pages

  • Rearrange: in thumbnail or grid view, drag the page to a new position.
  • Delete: in scrolling view, select Delete page in the page's top corner. In thumbnail view, select the pages, right-click and choose Delete page.
  • Undo: press Ctrl or Cmd + Z if you duplicated the wrong page.

Smart ways to use duplicated pages

  • Carousels: design the first card, duplicate it for every slide and change only the text.
  • Presentations: build one content slide layout and copy it for each section.
  • Worksheets and planners: duplicate a blank page for every day or week.
  • Social batching: make a month of quote posts from one template page. My tips on writing Instagram quotes that get shared will help with the words.
  • A/B versions: duplicate an ad page and test a different headline on the copy.

Keep your versions organised

Once you start duplicating, designs multiply fast. A few habits stop it turning into chaos. Name each design clearly, for example the client, the month and what it is, so you can find it in Projects later. Keep one master design for each template and only ever duplicate from it, so you aren't copying a copy of a copy with old mistakes baked in. And when a campaign is finished, move its designs into a folder rather than leaving them on your homepage. It sounds fussy, but it's what lets you find an old best-performing carousel in seconds instead of scrolling for ten minutes.

Keep duplicated pages consistent

Duplicating keeps your layout the same, but small changes creep in as you edit each copy. Lock elements that should never move, such as your logo or a background shape, before you duplicate. And use your brand kit colours and fonts rather than picking colours by eye, so every page matches. If you're building a set of on-brand posts, my post on brand content for social media covers what to keep consistent.

My verdict

Use the Duplicate page button for one-offs and thumbnail view with Ctrl or Command for several pages at once. Copy the whole design with Make a copy when you need a fresh version, and keep big projects split into smaller designs well under Canva's page limit. Get into the habit and you'll halve the time you spend on carousels and decks.
