How to Delete Quora Account: Steps, Waiting Period and Limits

To delete your Quora account, open your account privacy settings, choose Delete Account and enter your password. Your account is deactivated straight away, and Quora then waits 14 days before the deletion becomes permanent. If you log in during those 14 days, the deletion is cancelled, so stay logged out until the window has closed.

Quora is one of those accounts that quietly sits around for years. Maybe you answered a few questions when you were building your name, maybe a business profile is out of date, or maybe you simply don't want your old answers hanging around with your name on them. Whatever the reason, it's worth knowing exactly what Quora's help centre says before you press the button, because deleting isn't the same as stepping away.

Deleting your Quora account from the privacy settings

Quora's help centre explains the process like this, and it's done from your account settings in a browser:

  1. Log in to Quora and open your account privacy settings.
  2. Choose Delete Account.
  3. Enter your password to confirm.
  4. Wait out the 14-day grace period without logging in again.

The help centre says the page is reachable at quora.com/settings/privacy. The help article describes the browser route only, so if you can't see the option in the phone app, menus vary by app version and the browser is the safest route.

Deleting a Quora account you signed up for with Google or Facebook

If you joined Quora using Google or Facebook, you may never have set a Quora password, and the delete screen asks for one. Quora's help says to create a password first. Open the same privacy settings page, click Change Password near the top and choose the option to create an account password. Then go back and start the deletion.

What the 14-day window means for your Quora account

This is the part that catches people out. According to Quora's help, your account is deactivated as soon as you confirm, and deletion begins with a grace period of 14 days. Logging in at any point during those 14 days reactivates the account and cancels the deletion.

So after you confirm, close the tab, sign out of the app, and resist the urge to have one last look. A quick check of a notification email link is enough to restart everything. Quora's help also mentions a contact form if you need the deletion to happen sooner, so that's the route to try if the waiting period matters to you.

What disappears from Quora, and what stays

Once the grace period passes, Quora says your content and profile are permanently deleted and your personal data is removed from its databases. The help centre lists profile photos and bio, answers, comments, posts, votes, endorsements and messages as being removed from public view. Deletion can't be reversed once it's complete.

ItemWhat Quora's help says
Your profile, answers, comments and postsDeleted after the grace period
Questions you askedStay on Quora as community-owned content, no longer linked to your name
Spaces and topicsCommunity property that stays, according to Quora's comparison article
Copies shared elsewhereNot affected by deletion
Data Quora must keep by lawMay be kept, for example for subpoenas or court orders

Deactivating your Quora account instead of deleting it

If you only want a break, deactivation is the gentler option. Quora's help says to open Settings, go to the Privacy tab and choose Deactivate Account at the bottom. You stop getting Quora emails and notifications, but the content you've posted stays visible on the site.

To come back, log in at Quora.com or in the app with your email address and password, and the account is reactivated. Quora's help says you can do that at any time. The key difference is simple: deactivating hides you from your inbox, while deleting removes your content for good.

Before you delete your Quora account

A short checklist saves regrets. Think about whether any of your answers send visitors to a business page you still care about, and whether a client or colleague might find a link on Quora that suddenly goes nowhere. If you've built a reputation there, deleting single answers or comments may be enough, which Quora's help lists as an alternative to closing the whole account.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  • Copy any answer you want to reuse before you delete it, because it can't be restored afterwards.
  • Update links on your website, email signature or social bios that point to your Quora profile.
  • Check which email address is attached to the account so you can find the right one later.
  • Decide whether deactivating is enough for what you need.

If you're tidying more than one profile, I've written about the same job elsewhere: see my guide to deactivating an Instagram account on phone and computer and the steps in deleting a Snapchat account. For a wider look at what your public profiles reveal, my privacy audit for your X account is a good next step.

If your Quora account deletion doesn't go through

If the Delete Account option won't work, check the basics first: you're logged in on the web, you've created a password if you signed up through Google or Facebook, and you've entered it correctly. If you still can't get through, use Quora's contact form through its help centre. Quora's help mentions that route for deleting sooner, and it's the sensible place to explain anything unusual, like an account you can't access.

Deleting Quora doesn't remove copies of your content that other people shared elsewhere. Quora's help says that is outside what deletion covers, so if something has been republished on another site, you'd need to ask that site separately.

Frequently asked questions

How do I delete my Quora account?

Open your account privacy settings in a browser, choose Delete Account and enter your password. Quora then starts a 14-day grace period before deletion becomes permanent.

Can I get my Quora account back after deleting it?

Only during the 14-day grace period. Logging in during those days reactivates the account and cancels the deletion. Once the deletion is complete, Quora's help says it can't be reversed.

What happens to my Quora answers when I delete my account?

Quora's help says your profile, answers, comments, posts, votes, endorsements and messages are removed. Questions you asked stay but are no longer linked to your name.

What if I signed up to Quora with Google or Facebook?

Create an account password first. In the privacy settings, click Change Password and choose the option to create one, then start the deletion.

What's the difference between deactivating and deleting Quora?

Deactivating stops emails and notifications but leaves your content visible, and you can reactivate by logging in. Deleting removes your content permanently after the 14-day window.

Does deleting Quora remove copies shared elsewhere?

No. Quora's help says content others copied or shared outside Quora isn't affected by your deletion.
