To add a Featured section on LinkedIn, go to your profile, click Add profile section, open Recommended and choose Add Featured, then click the Add icon and pick a post, article, link or media file. Click Save. To feature an existing post, use the More icon on that post instead.
The Featured section sits near the top of your LinkedIn profile, and it's the closest thing LinkedIn has to a shop window. You choose what goes in it: your best post, a case study, your website, a lead magnet or a talk you gave. Most people leave it empty, which is a missed chance. Here's how to add it, what you can put in it, and how to make it work for your business.
Add Featured on a computer
- Click the Me icon, then View Profile.
- Click Add profile section in your intro section.
- Open the Recommended dropdown and choose Add Featured.
- Click the Add icon in the upper right.
- Choose the type of item and follow the prompts.
- Click Save or Done, and repeat to add more.
Add it from your phone
- Tap your profile photo, then View profile.
- Tap Add section.
- Tap Recommended, then Add featured.
- Choose the item type and tap Save or Done.
What you can feature
| Can feature | Can't feature |
|---|---|
| Posts you created or re-shared | Posts from LinkedIn Events you're attending |
| Articles you published on LinkedIn | Posts from Groups you belong to |
| Links to your website, blog or portfolio | Anything you haven't published yet |
| Images, documents, presentations and videos | Company content, as Featured is for personal profiles |
A useful shortcut: when you've written a post that does well, open the More menu on the post and feature it straight from there. LinkedIn doesn't add posts to Featured automatically, so it's always your choice.
Things LinkedIn's FAQ reveals
- You can add as many items as you like, but only 400 are shown.
- New items appear first by default, so the latest thing you feature goes to the front.
- If Featured is empty, it's hidden from visitors, so nobody sees a blank box.
- Featured content isn't discoverable through search, and people have to be signed in to see it.
- Your Activity section, just below, shows your posts, comments and likes from the past 45 days. Featured is the part you control.
Reorder, edit or remove items
Scroll to Featured on your profile and click the Edit icon. Use the Reorder icon to change the order once you have at least two items. You can also change an item's title and description, which is worth doing for links so they make sense at a glance.
There's an important difference between two options. Remove from featured takes an item out of Featured but leaves it in your Activity. Delete removes it from Featured and your profile. If you just want to swap something out, remove it rather than delete it.
What to feature as a business owner
- Your website or booking page, so profile visitors have an obvious next step.
- A free resource, such as a checklist or guide, that builds your email list.
- A case study or client result as a document or link.
- Your best-performing post, because it's already proven to land with your audience.
- A talk, podcast or video that shows how you think and sound.
Put the item you most want people to click first. Most visitors won't scroll sideways through every item, so the first one or two do the heavy lifting.
Give each item a clear title
A link titled with your homepage's default name tells people nothing. Edit each item's title and description so it says what someone gets: 'Free social media checklist' beats 'Home'. Short, specific titles get more clicks, in my experience, and they make your whole profile look more considered.
Who can see your Featured items
LinkedIn says Featured follows your existing profile and post visibility settings. If a post you've featured is limited to your connections, only your connections will see it there. People also need to be signed in to LinkedIn to view the section. So if you're using Featured to send people to a free resource or booking page, make sure the item itself is public, or many profile visitors simply won't see it.
Refresh it every few months
Featured works best when it's current. If the first item is a post from years ago or a webinar that's already happened, swap it for something live. Set a reminder to check it when you update your headline or launch something new, and it'll stay a strong part of your profile instead of a museum.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Pair it with a strong headline
Featured and your headline work as a team: the headline tells people what you do, and Featured proves it. My hook and headline swipe file helps with the words, and my guide to building a personal brand as a consultant shows how Featured fits a wider plan.
My verdict
Add profile section, Recommended, Add Featured, then add your best post, your website and a free resource. Put the most important one first, give every item a clear title, and use Remove from featured rather than Delete when you swap things around. It's the most underused part of most LinkedIn profiles.
