How Long Can a TikTok Video Be? Up to 30 Minutes

A TikTok video can be up to 30 minutes long when you upload it through TikTok Studio, according to TikTok's support centre. The file also has to be MP4 or WebM, at least 720x1280 resolution and under 10 GB.

TikTok has stretched its video length several times, so you'll find guides quoting 60 seconds, three minutes, ten minutes and more. The number TikTok itself publishes for uploads today is in its support article on TikTok Studio. Here's that limit, with the rules that come with it.

The upload limits

RuleTikTok's requirement
LengthUp to 30 minutes
File sizeLess than 10 GB
FormatMP4 or WebM
Resolution720x1280 or higher

These are the limits TikTok lists for uploading, editing and posting videos in TikTok Studio. TikTok says Studio's creator tools are available in the TikTok app, in a web browser and in the separate TikTok Studio app.

Why you'll see other numbers quoted

TikTok has moved this limit before. Its newsroom post on longer videos announced the option to film, upload and edit videos up to three minutes long directly within TikTok, rolled out to everyone. That's a big part of why older articles disagree: each one is a snapshot of a different stage. When a guide gives a number, check whether it's talking about recording inside the app or uploading a finished file, because those haven't always matched.

The details that trip people up

  • Resolution is a minimum. A video below 720x1280 doesn't meet TikTok's upload requirement, even if it's well under 30 minutes.
  • Long and high quality adds up. A 30 minute video in high resolution can pass 10 GB, so export at a sensible bitrate if a long upload fails.
  • Format matters. Only MP4 and WebM are listed, so convert other files before you start.

How to upload a long video, step by step

  1. Export your video as MP4 or WebM, vertical, at 720x1280 or higher.
  2. Check the file is under 30 minutes and under 10 GB.
  3. Open TikTok Studio in the app, the web or the TikTok Studio app.
  4. Click Upload and select your file.
  5. Add your caption and settings, then post or schedule it.

Upload vs record

The 30 minute limit in TikTok's support article is for videos you upload through TikTok Studio. That's an important distinction if you film inside the app. TikTok's earlier announcement on longer videos talked about filming, uploading and editing within TikTok, and the in-app camera has had its own limits over time. If you want the longest possible video, the safe route is to film and edit elsewhere, export a file that meets the rules, and upload it through TikTok Studio, where the published limit applies.

Should you make long TikToks?

Just because you can post 30 minutes doesn't mean you should. Long uploads suit tutorials, explainers and storytelling where people have chosen to watch. For discovery, short and sharp still tends to be easier to finish, and a strong opening matters more the longer the video runs. My advice is to test both: post the long version for your followers and cut a short clip that points to it.

A note for teen creators

Length isn't the only rule that shapes reach. TikTok's teen safety page says content from users under 16 isn't eligible for the For You feed at all, and teen accounts default to 60 minutes of daily screen time. So for younger creators, a longer video won't change who sees it; the age rules do.

My verdict

Thirty minutes is the ceiling, but the file has to meet the format, resolution and size rules too, and that's where most failed uploads come from. Export cleanly, check the size, and you're fine. If you're editing on your phone, here's how to trim a video on iPhone and how to crop a video on iPhone to get the shape right before you upload.
