How Does Solitaire Clash Work? Matching, Playthroughs and Cash Out

Solitaire Clash works by matching you with an opponent of similar skill who gets the exact same deal, card for card, and whoever scores higher in the same time wins the prize. The detail most players don't know: if no live opponent is available, its maker AviaGames may match you against a recording of a real player's game, and keeps the prize if that recording wins.

Solitaire Clash is one of the real-money solitaire games you'll see advertised everywhere. It's made by AviaGames, and its support FAQ is unusually candid about how matching works, including one rule every player should know before paying an entry fee. Here's how the game works, from AviaGames' own support page.

How a Solitaire Clash match works

  1. Choose a game mode and entry fee.
  2. AviaGames' algorithm assesses your skill and matches you with a player who chose the same mode and the same fee.
  3. You both get the same initial hand, with every card, including the face-down ones, in the same order.
  4. You both have the same playing time and the same scoring rules.
  5. The higher score wins the prize, if you're otherwise eligible.

Because the deal is identical, luck of the cards is taken out of the comparison. What separates you is how efficiently you clear the tableau and how you use the clock.

Live opponents and Historical Playthroughs

This is the rule worth reading twice. AviaGames says it tries to match you with real, live players of similar skill. But if it can't find one among the players logged in, it may match you with a recorded game from a real player, which it calls a Historical Playthrough. In that case, the profile you see is generated, not the real player's.

You still play the same hand under the same conditions, and if your score beats the recording, you win. But if the Historical Playthrough's score wins, AviaGames says it retains the prize. So you're sometimes competing against a past performance rather than a person, and AviaGames, not another player, keeps the prize when the recording wins.

Bonus Cash, Cash Dash and Starter Matches

Balance or offerHow it works
Bonus CashCan pay entry fees, but all of it's forfeited when you apply for a withdrawal
Starter MatchesNew players get Trial Bonus Cash in a Starter sub-account, usable only in the Starter tier until a target is met
Cash DashA limited-time challenge with Trial Bonus Cash in a sub-account; fail, quit or run short and that sub-account resets to zero

You may be matched against Cash Dash or Starter players who are paying with trial money. AviaGames says the result depends only on scores, whatever your opponent's balance.

The trial offers have their own small print. With Cash Dash, the Trial Bonus Cash and anything you win with it stay in a separate sub-account until you complete the task, and if you miss the time limit, quit midway or can't cover the next entry fee, AviaGames says that sub-account is reset to zero. Starter Matches are gentler: if you don't hit the target in time, AviaGames says the promotional period may simply restart. Neither offer stops you playing or withdrawing from your regular balance.

How withdrawals work

Tap Withdraw in the app, enter an amount and check the processing fee and total before you submit. Two things to know first:

  • All your Bonus Cash is forfeited the moment you apply for a withdrawal, so play it before you cash out.
  • AviaGames says it may take 7 or more days for the money to reach your bank or PayPal account.

Accepted payment methods include Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, VISA, MasterCard, Amex and Discover.

Fairness and cheating

AviaGames says its real-money games are legal in the jurisdictions where they're offered, and that they reward skill rather than chance. If you suspect an opponent cheated, note the Match ID and report it to Player Support through the Support button in the app; AviaGames says cheaters are banned from its apps. The same company runs Bingo Clash, Bubble Shot, 21 Gold, 8 Ball Strike and several other cash games, so the rules here broadly apply across them.

Tips before you play for money

  • Practise in free modes until you're consistently scoring well.
  • Remember a recording, not a person, may be on the other side.
  • Use Bonus Cash on entries before you withdraw anything.
  • Read the rules of any Cash Dash or Starter offer, including the time limit, before accepting.
  • Set a firm limit on deposits, and treat entry fees as the cost of entertainment.

My verdict on how Solitaire Clash works

Solitaire Clash is a skill game with real entry fees and an identical deal for both players, which is fairer than pure chance. But the Historical Playthrough rule means that some of the time you're playing against a recorded score, with the house keeping the prize if it wins. If you enjoy competitive solitaire and keep stakes small, that's a reasonable game. If you're hoping to earn, it isn't the way.
