A guest post marketplace is a platform where publishers list their sites and buyers order sponsored posts through the platform. It's quick for volume, but you're buying through a middle layer. Buying direct means you deal with the site owner. I sell placements on my marketing blog directly,.

If you're comparing guest post marketplaces, you're probably trying to answer one question: is it better to order through a platform or go straight to the site? I'm a publisher who's sold sponsored posts for years, so here's how I see it from the other side of the order form.

What a guest post marketplace does

A marketplace sits between buyers and publishers. Publishers list their sites with metrics like domain authority, traffic and niche. Buyers filter the list, place an order and pay the platform. The platform passes the order to the publisher, holds the payment until the post is live, and usually takes a cut from one side or both.

For a buyer, the main appeal is speed and choice. You can search thousands of sites in one place and place a dozen orders in an afternoon.

Where a marketplace works well

  • You need a lot of placements across many different domains
  • You want the platform to hold payment until the post goes live
  • You're testing niches and don't need a relationship with each site
  • You'd rather manage everything in one dashboard

Where buying direct works better

  • You want to know who owns the site. Marketplaces list metrics, not people.
  • You're placing on the same site again. Repeat orders are simpler with a direct contact.
  • You need flexibility. A publisher can suggest a link insertion into an article that's already indexed instead of a brand new post.
  • Something goes wrong later. If a page moves or a link breaks, you email the owner and it's fixed.
  • You want fewer layers. No platform rules on what can and can't be discussed.

What to check on any marketplace listing

Marketplace metrics are a starting point, not proof. Before you order, check:

  • The site is alive and indexed. When I checked the 3,204 sites on my own guest post list in September 2026, 18% were dead or parked. Listings go stale the same way.
  • The traffic trend. A site that's lost most of its visitors in a year can still show a high authority score.
  • Recent posts. Read three. If they're all thin sponsored articles, that's what your post will sit next to.
  • Where your post will appear. A post buried on a page with no internal links is hard for anyone to find.
  • How long it stays up. Some sites remove sponsored posts after a year.

How I sell placements

I sell directly. You email me, I reply, we agree the details and I publish. You're dealing with the owner of lilachbullock.com from the first message to the live URL.

  • Sponsored guest posts, link insertions and product mentions in relevant roundups
  • Accepted posts usually live within 24 to 48 hours of the details being agreed
  • Permanent placements
  • PayPal invoicing
  • Agencies, resellers and international buyers welcome

Marketplace or direct: a simple rule

Use a marketplace when you need breadth: lots of sites, fast, in one place. Go direct when the placement matters: a site you'll return to, a client you need to impress, or a niche where the right publisher is worth a conversation. Plenty of agencies do both.

Finding sites to buy from directly

If you want to go direct but don't know where to start, my free list of websites that accept guest posts covers thousands of sites across 37 categories, checked live. For higher authority targets, see my list of high DA guest posting sites, and for brands looking for paid placement specifically, sites that accept sponsored posts.

Topics that fit my blog

My readers are business owners, marketers and entrepreneurs, mostly in the USA and the UK. Posts fit best in digital marketing, SEO, SaaS, AI, technology, small business, business, finance, health and travel. Each link goes to that niche's guidelines.

Questions to ask any publisher before you buy direct

Going direct only helps if the publisher is reliable. These questions sort that out in one email:

  • Which exact page or section will my post appear in?
  • How long will the post stay live?
  • Will you edit my article, and will you tell me what changed?
  • How quickly do posts usually go live once everything is agreed?
  • Can you place a link in an existing article instead of a new post?
  • Who do I contact if something breaks later?

A publisher who answers all six clearly is worth a second order. One who dodges them probably isn't.

What a marketplace can't show you

Listings are built from numbers: authority, traffic estimates, price bands. They don't tell you whether the owner edits posts, whether the site is still growing, or whether sponsored content is starting to crowd out everything else. You find those things by reading the site and talking to the person who runs it.

That's the main reason I sell direct. You can read my blog, see what I publish and ask me anything before you order.

Buying direct at volume

Going direct doesn't mean one post at a time. Agencies and resellers place batches with me every month. Send the list of target pages, topics and niches in one email and I'll tell you which fit, which would work better as link insertions and which I'd pass on.

Frequently asked questions

What is a guest post marketplace?

It's a platform where publishers list their websites and buyers order sponsored or guest posts through the platform, which usually handles payment and takes a cut.

Is it better to buy through a marketplace or direct?

A marketplace is better for breadth and speed across many sites. Buying direct is better when you want to know the site owner, place repeat orders or have someone to contact after the post is live.

Are you on any guest post marketplace?

No. I sell directly, so you deal with me, nobody takes a cut in the middle, and you get your answer by email.

How fast do direct orders go live?

Usually 24 to 48 hours after the details are agreed.

Are placements permanent?

Yes. Posts on my blog stay live.

How do I pay when buying direct?

By PayPal invoice.

Do marketplace listings show real traffic?

They usually show estimates from SEO tools. Those are a useful guide, but check the trend over the last year and read the site before you order, because estimates can hide a site that's losing visitors fast.

Can I place repeat orders directly with you?

Yes. Many buyers order every month. Send the target pages, topics and niches in one email and I'll reply with what fits.
