Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Appeal and Get It Back

If your Google Business Profile is suspended, check it against Google's guidelines, fix anything that breaks them, then submit an appeal in the Google Business Profile appeals tool with evidence such as your business registration or a utility bill. Appeals can only be submitted once, and Google says not to create a new profile for the same business.

A suspension usually lands with no warning and at the worst moment, often just after you changed something. The good news is that Google has a clear route back. The bad news is that it gives you one shot at the appeal, so it's worth getting the evidence right before you press submit.

What a suspension means for your business

Google's help page explains what happens when a profile is removed: the public can't go to the profile, and the owner and managers can't act on it. If the whole owner's Google Account is removed, all the locations owned by that user go with it. When Google reinstates the profile, the owner and managers come back too.

Profile suspended or account restricted? Check which one

Restrictions for fake reviewsNo new reviews for a set period, reviews unpublished, or a warning shown to customersThe restriction appeal Google links from its email

The order matters for an account restriction. Google says you lift the account restriction first, from your My accounts page, and only then appeal the Business Profile suspension.

Before you appeal: check your profile against Google's guidelines

Google's guidelines for representing your business are long, but suspensions usually trace back to a few of them. Read your profile with fresh eyes and check the business name matches your real-world signage and paperwork with no extra keywords, the address is a place customers can visit or that you use for your service area, the category describes the business you run, and every detail matches the documents you're about to upload. Fix those first. An appeal for a profile that still breaks a guideline is a wasted appeal.

The evidence Google says can strengthen your appeal

Evidence is optional, but Google lists the documents that help, and I'd always include at least two.

  • Official business registration
  • A business licence
  • Tax certificates
  • Utility bills for the business, such as electricity, phone, water or internet

Google's tip is the one people miss: check that the business name and address on every document match the profile you're appealing. A utility bill in your personal name at a different address works against you.

How to submit your appeal

  1. Open the Google Business Profile appeals tool and confirm you're signed in to the Google Account linked to the profile.
  2. Select the Business Profile you want to appeal, then Continue.
  3. Select the decision you want to appeal. The tool shows the date of the decision, the reason, a link to the policy, whether it can be appealed and its status.
  4. Upload your evidence with Choose file. You can attach multiple files.
  5. Use the text box to explain why the profile should be reinstated. Keep it factual and short.
  6. Tick the box confirming your evidence is attached, then select Submit appeal.

Google reviews the appeal and emails you the decision. Because appeals can only be submitted once, don't send a half-finished one to see what happens.

Checking your appeal status

Open the appeals tool again, select the profile, and the status shows on the right. Google lists five: Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can't be appealed and Eligible for appeal. If your reinstatement request is denied, Google says it may be able to carry out an additional review, and you can add evidence you didn't include the first time. Businesses in the EEA may also have extra redress options.

If you manage more than 10 profiles

Agencies and multi-location businesses get a separate route. When you appeal through the tool and manage more than 10 Business Profiles, it asks if you're requesting bulk reinstatement for 10 or more suspended locations. Say yes and attach a spreadsheet with each suspended location's Business Profile ID plus supporting documents, with names and addresses that exactly match each registration.

How long to wait before chasing

Google's page doesn't give a fixed turnaround for appeals, so don't plan around one. Check the status in the appeals tool rather than emailing support repeatedly, and keep the email address linked to your profile somewhere you'll see Google's decision.

The mistake that makes it worse

The instinct is to set up a fresh profile and start again. Google's help page says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business. Duplicate listings are exactly the kind of thing its guidelines are written to stop, so you'd be adding a second problem to the first. Google's missing reviews page also notes that reviews can sometimes be removed after a profile is reinstated, so screenshot your best reviews while you wait.

Service businesses also ask about the verification badge, and the rename is explained in the Google Verified rename guide.

My verdict

Slow down before you appeal. Fix the profile, gather two matching documents, write three or four plain sentences and submit once. Then use the waiting time well: tidy your listings elsewhere with a NAP consistency check so your name, address and phone number match everywhere Google looks, and once you're back, work through my Google Business Profile checklist.
