Gemini Storybook turns a short description into a 10-page illustrated story with read-aloud narration. Start a chat in the Gemini app and describe the story you want, for example "Create a storybook about a shy dinosaur who learns to dance", and add photos or files if you like. It's available to all Gemini users over 18, on the web and mobile, in every country and language where Gemini works.
Most people find Storybook by accident and then can't stop making them. Bedtime stories are the obvious use, but Google's own examples go further: turning a research report into something you can follow, or retelling a big life change as an adventure.
I've built this guide from Google's Storybook page and FAQ, read in October 2026.
What you get
| Feature | What Google says |
|---|---|
| Length | A unique 10-page storybook |
| Pictures | Illustrations created for your story |
| Narration | Read-aloud audio, in a limited set of languages |
| Languages | Stories in 45+ languages |
| Where | Web and mobile, wherever you use Gemini |
| Who | All Gemini users over the age of 18 |
How to make a storybook, step by step
- Open Gemini on the web or in the app and start a new chat.
- Describe the story: who it's about, what happens and the feel you want.
- Upload photos, drawings or a document if you want Gemini to use them.
- Let Gemini create the book, then read it or play the narration.
- Ask for changes in the chat until you're happy.
- Share it with a link, print it from your browser or listen to it.
Five prompts to start with
These follow the pattern of Google's own examples, which work because they give Gemini a subject, a twist and an audience:
Copy this prompt
Create a storybook for a five-year-old about our cat Biscuit, who secretly runs a bakery at night. Keep the words simple and the ending sleepy.

Create a storybook about starting my own business, told as a sailing adventure where every storm is a problem I solved. Make it funny and kind.

I'm learning Spanish. Create a storybook in Spanish for a beginner about ordering lunch at a market.

Here are photos from our family holiday. Create a storybook I can share with the grandparents, telling the trip as one big adventure.

Create a storybook that explains this report I've uploaded so a 12-year-old could follow it.
Using your own photos and files
Google says you can upload photos of your family, pets or a special place, a PDF, or even a screenshot of a group chat, and Gemini will base the story and pictures on them. It also says you can create stories from documents in your native language. For something personal, this is the bit that makes the book feel like yours.
How to edit a Gemini storybook
Here's the catch most people hit first: you can't edit the text directly on the page. Instead, you carry on the conversation. Google's examples are prompts like "Now, make the story funnier" or "Change the illustration style to watercolor".
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Each change creates a new version with all new images. So if you love the pictures in one version, take a screenshot or share that version before you ask for anything else, because the next round redraws the lot.
Sharing, printing and the account catch
Every storybook can be shared with a public link, which is handy for family and friends. You can also print it straight from your browser or just play the narration if you'd rather keep screens out of bedtime.
Now the catch that trips up teachers and office users. Google says you need to be signed in to a personal account to share, and Workspace and Student accounts can't share storybooks. If you made one on a work or school account, you'll need to recreate it on a personal account to send the link.
And remember a public link is public. I'd avoid putting children's full names, school details or your address into a story you plan to share.
Is Gemini Storybook free?
Google's page says Storybook is available to all Gemini users over 18, in all countries and languages where Gemini is supported, though narration only works in some languages. It doesn't list a paid plan as a requirement. If you're new to the app itself, my guide on how to use Gemini is a good place to start.
Ideas for small businesses
- A short, illustrated welcome story for new customers or clients
- A children's version of how your product is made, for a family brand
- A light-hearted story for a team celebration or a staff leaving card
- A simple explainer of a complicated process, written for complete beginners
For a longer piece of creative work you want to shape page by page, Gemini Canvas gives you more control over the text. And if you'd like help using tools like this in your marketing, that's what my work with me page is for.
My verdict
Gemini Storybook is one of the most delightful things Gemini does, and it takes seconds. Give it a character, a twist and an audience, add a photo for a personal touch, and edit by chatting rather than hunting for a text box. Save any version you love before asking for changes, and make it on a personal account if you want to share the link.
