Games Like Wordle: Daily Word, Number and Geography Puzzles

If you like Wordle, try Quordle, Octordle, Absurdle, Waffle, Connections or Nerdle for more word and number puzzles, or Worldle and Globle if you'd rather guess places. Most are free to play in a browser and have a fresh puzzle each day. Pick one by what you enjoy guessing: words, numbers, countries or films.

Wordle gives you a five-letter word and six tries, with coloured tiles to show how close each guess was. Once you've finished the daily puzzle, there's a gap in the morning routine, and plenty of games try to fill it. Here are the ones I'd look at first, what each one asks you to guess, and who it suits.

A quick note: websites and apps change, and some games add or drop practice modes over time. Where I say a game is daily or unlimited, check its page to see how it works today.

Daily word puzzles

These keep the Wordle feeling, with a twist.

Quordle and Octordle

Quordle has you solving four words at the same time with every guess, and Octordle pushes that to eight. They suit you if Wordle feels too easy and you like juggling several puzzles. The limit is time: a full game takes much longer than a single Wordle, so they're not for a two-minute break.

Absurdle

Absurdle is a Wordle that fights back. It keeps changing its answer to make your guesses as unhelpful as possible, so you're really solving a logic puzzle. It suits people who enjoy strategy, but it can feel unfair if you're after a quick win.

Waffle

Waffle gives you a grid of scrambled letters and asks you to swap them until every word is correct. It's a good pick if you like anagram-style thinking, though the grid layout takes a minute to learn.

Connections

Connections isn't about spelling at all. You're given a board of words and have to sort them into groups that share something in common. It suits people who like lateral thinking. The limit is that some groups rely on cultural references that may not be familiar to everyone.

Number and maths twists

Nerdle swaps the letters for numbers and symbols, and you're guessing a short equation that adds up. It's brilliant for anyone who likes arithmetic and wants a gentle brain workout. Its limit is that you need to be comfortable with quick mental sums, or the early guesses can feel like pure luck.

If you want to stay on the word side but sharpen your thinking, see my guide to the best word puzzle games for your brain.

Geography and trivia twists

  • Worldle: you see the outline of a country and guess the country. Each wrong guess shows how far away and in which direction the answer lies. Great for map lovers; frustrating if you've never studied geography.
  • Globle: a globe version where your guesses colour the map by how close you are. It suits visual thinkers, and it teaches you where things are as you play.
  • Framed: you guess a film from a handful of stills, one more revealed after each wrong answer. It suits film fans, but if you rarely watch films it'll feel tough.

Music guessing games in the same style have come and gone over the years, so I haven't listed one here. If you find a current one you like, it'll work in the same way as the others.

Play with friends

The best part of these games is comparing notes. Most daily puzzles let you share a result as a grid of coloured squares, which gives away nothing about the answer. Drop yours in a group chat and see who got it quickest.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

  • Make a small group chat just for puzzle results, so they don't bury your other messages.
  • Agree to keep hints out of the chat until everyone has played.
  • Try a friendly race: same game, same time, first to finish wins.
  • Take turns on one phone for games that don't need a login.

If you want a steady habit, the best daily word puzzle games to keep your mind sharp is a good place to build a short routine.

How to make your own Wordle-style puzzle for a group

You don't need an app. This paper version works around a table, on a car journey or at a family gathering.

  1. One person, the keeper, secretly writes down a five-letter word.
  2. Everyone else takes turns guessing a real five-letter word out loud.
  3. After each guess, the keeper writes the guess on a sheet of paper and marks each letter: a tick if it's in the right place, a circle if the letter is in the word but in the wrong spot, and a cross if it's not in the word.
  4. Keep the sheet where everyone can see it, so the group can reason together.
  5. The group gets six guesses. If they crack it, they win; if not, the keeper wins and the next person becomes the keeper.

For a harder version, pick a theme such as foods, animals or places. For a gentler one, let younger players start with a three-letter word. If you'd like to play word games without any internet, these free offline word games cover that.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most similar game to Wordle?

Quordle and Octordle are the closest, because you still guess five-letter words with coloured feedback. They just ask you to solve several words at the same time.

Are there games like Wordle with no daily limit?

Some are unlimited and some add practice modes. Absurdle can be played as often as you like. Check each game's page, because rules change over time.

Are there games like Wordle for numbers?

Yes. Nerdle uses the same guess-and-feedback idea, but you're guessing a maths equation rather than a word.

Can I play word games like Wordle with friends?

Yes. Share your result grid in a group chat, race each other on the same game, or play the paper version around a table.

Are games like Wordle free?

Many are free to play in a browser. Some offer extra features or apps, so check the current terms on each game's own page.
