Free presentation software lets you build slides for pitches, webinars, lessons and talks without a licence. Familiar slide apps suit most business decks, interactive tools suit workshops and audience polls, and code-based tools suit technical talks. Check file size limits and offline access before an important presentation.
Most presentations fail because of the content, not the software. Still, the right free tool makes it easier to keep slides simple, share them with a team and present without technical drama.
Below are ten free presentation tools in no particular order, sorted alphabetically, from small open-source projects to well-known names. Each description comes from the tool's own website, re-checked today. If you're presenting online, my guide on how to create a webinar covers the delivery side.
Think about where you'll present. A conference room with an old laptop needs a file that opens offline, while a webinar needs a tool that shares smoothly in your video platform. If you're not sure, you'll be safest with a tool that exports a PDF.

The file size limit behind failed imports
Here's a limit people hit at the worst moment. Google's own help page on Drive file limits says presentations converted to Google Slides can be up to 100 MB. A deck heavy with high-resolution photos or embedded video can go over that, and the conversion fails or drops content.
So compress large images before you import a deck, link to videos rather than embedding huge files, and keep a PDF copy of every important presentation. If the internet or the software lets you down, a PDF on a memory stick will still get you through the talk.
Choosing a tool for the kind of talk
- Sales pitches: polished templates and easy sharing with prospects.
- Webinars: a tool that screen-shares smoothly and keeps fonts intact.
- Workshops: live polls and questions keep people involved.
- Technical talks: code-friendly slides that show snippets clearly.
- Training: slides your team can edit and reuse.
Building a clear deck quickly
- Write your main message in one sentence.
- List the three points that support it.
- Give each point one or two slides with very few words.
- Add one image or example per slide.
- Rehearse out loud and cut any slide you skip.
Presenting with confidence online
- Share one window: it hides your inbox and notifications.
- Use speaker notes: keep them short, not a script.
- Check your camera angle: eye level looks more natural.
- Pause for questions: plan two or three stopping points.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Save your best slides in a master file too. A strong case study or diagram can appear in many decks, and you'll build new presentations much faster.
Do you make presentation software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on free presentation software
Pick the tool your audience can open. If you're sending a deck to a client, a format they can view without signing up is worth more than a fancy animation.
And use fewer words on slides. People read faster than you speak, so a wall of text means they've finished the slide before you've finished the sentence.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free presentation software?
It depends on how you present. Online slide apps suit teamwork, desktop apps suit offline talks, and interactive tools suit workshops.
Is there a free PowerPoint alternative?
Yes. Several free slide apps open and save common presentation formats.
Can I use PowerPoint for free?
Microsoft offers a free web version of its slide app with a Microsoft account.
How big can a converted presentation be?
Google says presentations converted to its online slide app can be up to 100 MB.
Which tool is best for webinars?
One that shares smoothly in your video platform and keeps fonts and layout intact.
Can I present offline?
Desktop apps work offline, and some online apps let you download a copy first.
How do I add a poll to my presentation?
Interactive presentation tools let the audience vote from their phones during your talk.
Should I send slides before a meeting?
A short summary often works better, with the full deck sent afterwards.
How many slides should a pitch have?
As few as possible to tell the story clearly. Many good pitches stay under fifteen.
Can AI make my presentation for me?
AI tools can draft a deck from notes, but you'll still need to check facts, cut filler and add your own examples.
What's a zooming presentation?
It's one big canvas where the view pans and zooms between ideas, instead of moving through separate slides.
