Free Business Card Maker (2026): 10 Free Design Tools

A free business card maker gives you ready-made templates you can edit with your name, logo and contact details, then download as a print-ready file or send straight to a printer. Most free plans include plenty of templates, with extra assets on upgraded tiers. This page lists ten free design tools in no particular order, then covers the sizes and margins that keep your card looking right.

Business cards are still handed out at events, meetings and markets every day, and a good one does a quiet job: it reminds people who you are and how to reach you. A free design tool can get you a smart card in under an hour, as long as you keep the design simple.

Below are ten free business card makers in no particular order, sorted alphabetically. Each description comes from the tool's own website, re-checked today. If you're still working on your logo, my guide on creating a logo for your business profile is a sensible first step.

Think about where the card will be used. A card for networking events needs to be easy to read in a hurry, while one tucked into product parcels can carry a little more personality.

In the free plan column, Yes means the tool's own site describes a free plan or free templates. Printing is usually ordered separately from a printer of your choice.

The sizes printers expect

Getting the size right first saves a reprint. Vistaprint's own business card page lists standard cards at 3.5 by 2 inches and says its templates have safe margins and bleed areas built in, so nothing important gets cut off. MOO's size guide lists standard cards at the same size, square cards at 2.56 inches and mini cards at 2.75 by 1.1 inches.

So pick your printer before you design, and choose the matching template size. Keep text inside the safe area and let any background colour run into the bleed.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

What to put on a business card

  • Your name and role: large enough to read at arm's length.
  • One phone number and one email: the ones you answer.
  • Your website: short and easy to type.
  • Your logo: clear, not tiny.
  • A QR code: optional, linking to your site or contact card.

Designing a card in five steps

  1. Choose a template that matches your printer's card size.
  2. Add your details, keeping text inside the safe margin.
  3. Use your brand colours and one or two fonts.
  4. Download a print-ready PDF with bleed.
  5. Order a small test batch before a big run.

Business card mistakes to avoid

  • Tiny text. It looks neat on screen and unreadable in hand.
  • Too many details. Pick what matters.
  • Low-resolution logos. They print blurry.
  • No bleed. White edges look careless.

Your card is part of a wider brand, as my piece on displaying your logo on branded bags shows.

Digital cards alongside paper ones

Plenty of people now share contact details from their phone, and that's no reason to drop paper cards. The two work well together: a printed card with a QR code that opens a digital contact page gives people the choice, and it means your details are always up to date even after you've printed the card.

If you go that way, make sure the QR code is large enough to scan easily and test it from a few different phones before you send the file to print.

It's also worth saving your design in the tool you made it in. You'll want to update a phone number or job title one day, and it's much easier to edit the original than to start again from a flat file.

Do you make business card design tools? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on free business card makers

Any of these will make a good card for free. The bigger difference is restraint: one font, plenty of space and only the details people need.

And print a few before you print hundreds. Seeing the card in your hand is the only way to know whether the text is big enough and the colours look right.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free business card maker?

Choose a tool with templates you like and an easy way to download a print-ready file.

What size is a standard business card?

Vistaprint and MOO both list standard cards at 3.5 by 2 inches.

What is bleed on a business card?

It's extra background beyond the cut line, so there's no white edge if the cut is slightly off.

Can I print a card I made for free?

Yes. Download a print-ready PDF and send it to any printer.

Should I add a QR code?

It can help, as long as it links somewhere useful and is large enough to scan.

What file format do printers want?

Most prefer a high-resolution PDF with bleed included.

How many fonts should I use?

One or two at most, so the card stays easy to read.

Do I still need business cards?

Many people still hand them out at events and meetings, especially in local business.
