Eight Sleep Review: Pod 6, Autopilot Plans and the Catch

The Eight Sleep Pod 6 is a 1-inch cover that sits on your existing mattress and cools or heats each side of the bed, from 55 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, run by a Hub beside the bed. As of October 2026, Eight Sleep lists the Pod 6 at 2,899 dollars plus an Autopilot plan from 199 dollars a year. The catch is in the footnotes: sleep tracking and alarms need an Autopilot membership, and the 5-year warranty needs the Enhanced plan.

Hot sleepers and couples who can't agree on the thermostat are exactly who Eight Sleep is built for. I read its Pod 6 product page, including the small print, to see what you get, what you keep paying for and what the trial covers.

Setting up the Pod 6

  1. Add the Cover to your mattress like a fitted sheet. Eight Sleep says it's only 1 inch thick and fits any mattress, so you keep your bed, frame and sheets.
  2. Place the Hub under your bed or on or near your nightstand. It fits under most bed frames.
  3. Set your temperature in the app. Each side of the bed can be cooled or heated independently.
  4. Sleep. Eight Sleep says the Pod makes up to 40 micro-adjustments a night based on real-time biometric and environment tracking.
  5. Wake up to a vibration and thermal alarm, then read the summary of your night in the app.

Autopilot tiers compared

Autopilot tierYearly, as of October 2026What it adds
Standard199 dollars a year (or 17 a month)Automatic temperature by sleep stage; sleep, heart rate, HRV and respiratory reports; vibration and thermal alarms
Enhanced299 dollars a year (or 25 a month)Everything in Standard plus a 5-year warranty
Elite399 dollars a year (or 33 a month)Everything in Enhanced plus advanced monitoring of cardiovascular and respiratory patterns

Two footnotes worth reading

Two footnotes change the maths. The first says the sleep and health tracking and the alarms need an Autopilot membership, so the plan isn't optional if you want the smart features. The second says the 5-year warranty requires the purchase of Enhanced Autopilot. Eight Sleep's own page says most members choose Enhanced because the extended warranty alone is worth more than the gap between the plans, which tells you how it expects you to buy. Do your own sums: the gap between Standard and Enhanced is 100 dollars a year.

On the plus side, as of October 2026 the page lists a 30-night risk-free trial, free returns and free shipping. Check the delivery date shown at checkout before you plan around it.

Extras on the checkout page

  • The Base: an adjustable base that raises your head when it detects snoring, and elevates for reading.
  • The Blanket: a hydro-powered duvet insert that extends cooling and heating above your body, both sides independent.
  • The Pod Pillow Cover: slips onto any pillow to keep your head and neck at their own temperature.
  • A Solo cover option if you sleep alone, alongside the Standard cover for one or two sleepers.

Is it for you?

It makes most sense if heat wakes you up, if you and your partner sleep at very different temperatures, or if you'd use the sleep data. It makes least sense if you'd resent a yearly membership on top of a big upfront purchase, or if you don't want your sleep data in an app. That's a personal call, and it's worth making before you order, not during the trial. Eight Sleep shows 4.5 stars from 40,660 reviews on its own page, but read the one-star reviews too before you commit.

My verdict on Eight Sleep

The Pod 6 does something an ordinary mattress can't: two temperatures in one bed, changing through the night. Go in with the full sum in mind, the Pod plus a yearly Autopilot plan, and pick Enhanced if you want the 5-year warranty. Use the 30-night trial well, on real hot nights, and return it inside the window if it isn't changing how you sleep.
