Copilot 3D went with Copilot Labs, which Microsoft says retires on 29 September 2026, and anything you made there, such as 3D assets or audio clips, won't carry forward once your account updates. Mico, Group Chat, Podcasts and Deep Research are also leaving Copilot as part of the move to the updated Copilot app, and Microsoft is ending Copilot on Samsung and LG TVs on 1 December 2026.
If you're here because a button you used has vanished, you're not imagining it. Microsoft is folding Copilot into one updated app across personal, work and school accounts, and a handful of features didn't make the cut. Accounts update in waves, so one person may still see a feature that's already gone for someone else. Here's what's going, when Microsoft says it happens, and what to save first.
The retired features at a glance
| Feature | What Microsoft says happens | Date Microsoft gives | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copilot Labs, including 3D | Labs and its experiments retire; 3D assets and audio clips don't carry forward | 29 September 2026 | Download anything you made before your update |
| Mico | Leaves Copilot Voice and moves to Learn Live; voice stays | Starts in August, in waves | Screenshot your Mico look if you like it |
| Group Chat | Retired; threads, messages and images don't carry forward | Account updates from 18 August 2026 | Copy messages and download images |
| Podcasts | Retired; you can no longer create or access them | 18 August 2026 | Nothing to recover in Copilot |
| Deep Research | Retired in the Copilot app | 18 August 2026 | See Microsoft's guidance on existing research content |
| Copilot on TVs | No longer available on Samsung and LG TVs | 1 December 2026 | Use Copilot on web, desktop or mobile |
Copilot 3D and Copilot Labs
Copilot Labs was Microsoft's experimental programme for early-stage AI features, and its experiments are where the 3D assets and audio clips people search for came from. Microsoft's FAQ says the Labs experience and its experiments retire on 29 September 2026, and that after your account updates they "will no longer be accessible".
The line that matters is about your files. Microsoft says content generated in Labs experiments, "such as 3D assets or audio clips, will not carry forward after your update", and that anything not saved before the update may no longer be available afterwards. If you made product mock-ups or 3D models for a client, download them to your device now.
What replaces it? Microsoft says early-access and preview experiences are expected through programmes such as Frontier in Copilot and experimentation environments like MAI Playground, and that availability and features may differ from what Labs offered. There's no promise of a like-for-like 3D tool.
Mico leaves Voice, but Voice stays
Mico, the animated character that reacted while you talked to Copilot, is moving to Learn Live, where Microsoft says it works as a tutor with real-time animation and voice. Copilot Voice itself carries on: you can still speak to Copilot and hear its answers, and your voice conversations are saved in your chat history and move with your account.
Two things don't come with it. Mico won't appear in Copilot Voice after your account updates, and Mico-specific settings like saved colours and looks won't carry over. Microsoft's tip is to take a screenshot if you're fond of your look. On whether Mico will come back to Voice, Microsoft says it has no further details to share. If you rely on talking to Copilot, my guide to using Copilot Voice still applies.
Group Chat, Podcasts and Deep Research
Group Chat let several people share one Copilot conversation to brainstorm or plan together. Microsoft says that once your account updates, you can no longer start, join or take part in group chats, and that guests who joined through an invite link lose access too. Threads, messages and content, including images made in group chats, don't carry forward.
Podcasts went on 18 August 2026. Microsoft's app update page says customers can no longer create or access Podcasts in Copilot, so there's nothing to recover inside Copilot. Deep Research was retired in the Copilot app on the same date. Microsoft has a separate page explaining what changed and how to access existing research content, so check that before assuming your reports are lost.
Copilot on TVs and the other changes
Microsoft says Copilot "is being retired from TVs and will no longer be available on Samsung and LG TVs on December 1, 2026." After that you can still use Copilot on the web, desktop and mobile.
Two other changes catch people out, even though they aren't straight retirements:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Copilot Tasks is moving to Cowork, which is in preview. Microsoft says your Tasks conversations move but memories saved by Tasks don't, scheduled tasks move but are switched off by default, chatting with Tasks by text or email isn't available in Cowork, and existing shared links to Tasks stop working. Cowork is a Premium or Pro feature, so Microsoft says Personal or Family subscribers lose access, though they can still view previous Tasks conversations.
- Copilot Health is temporarily unavailable during the move to the unified Copilot experience, according to Microsoft's support page. It was a preview for Microsoft 365 Personal, Family and Premium subscribers aged 18 or over in the US, and Microsoft says that when it's restored, some features, such as connecting wearables, may take time to return.
Save your content before your account updates
Microsoft says no action is needed unless you want to keep something. If you do, these are the steps it describes:
- Open any group chats you want to keep and copy the important messages into a document, a notes app or wherever you keep records.
- Download any images created in those group chats.
- Save or download anything you made in Copilot Labs, including 3D assets and audio clips, to your device.
- Screenshot your Mico look if you want a record of it.
- If you used Copilot Tasks, note any scheduled tasks you rely on, because they arrive in Cowork switched off.
The good news is that most of your everyday Copilot content is safe. Microsoft says your chats and content move with you to the updated app, and files shared and generated in the standalone Copilot app move to OneDrive. Here's more on the updated Microsoft Copilot app.
What you can still do for free
Microsoft says you can keep chatting with Copilot, creating images and uploading files for free, subject to available capacity and limits. When you hit a limit, you can upgrade to a paid option or come back later. I've covered what stays free in Copilot in more detail.
My advice
I'd download anything you care about now, whether that's a 3D model, a Labs audio clip or a group chat full of campaign ideas, because Microsoft's wording is plain that it won't come across. Skip waiting for these features to come back: Microsoft hasn't promised a return for any of them, and the dates it gives have mostly passed. If your team built a process around one of them, plan the replacement this month.
If a tool your team relied on has just changed or disappeared, that's the kind of workflow planning I help businesses with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still get my 3D models from Copilot Labs?
Only if you saved them before your account updated. Microsoft says content made in Labs experiments, such as 3D assets or audio clips, won't carry forward after your update, so download anything you want to keep while you still can.
Is Copilot Voice going away with Mico?
No. Microsoft says voice in Copilot isn't going away. You can still talk to Copilot, and your voice conversations stay in your chat history, but the animated Mico character won't appear in them after your account updates.
Why can I still see Group Chat when my colleague can't?
Because accounts update in waves. Microsoft says account updates began on 18 August 2026 and roll out gradually, so timing varies by account. If you can still see your group chats, save what you need now.
Will my normal Copilot chats disappear too?
No. Microsoft says your chats and content move with you to the updated Copilot app, and you can keep chatting, creating images and uploading files for free, subject to capacity and limits. It's content from retiring features that's handled differently.
