To cancel a Wix subscription, open Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account, click the More Actions icon next to the plan, click Cancel Plan and then Cancel Now. Unless you're inside the 14-day refund period on a first purchase, that only switches off auto-renew: the plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle and then doesn't renew.
Here's what people miss. Cancelling your Premium plan doesn't cancel anything else you bought through Wix. Your domain, your Google Workspace business email and any app subscriptions keep renewing until you cancel each one on its own, as of October 2026. Timing catches people out too: Wix says a site plan may renew up to 3 weeks before its expiration date, and a yearly plan's renewal date is 14 days before the anniversary of the original purchase. Leave it to the last few days and you can find you've paid for another year.
What each Wix subscription does when you cancel it
| Subscription | Where you cancel it | What happens next, as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Premium or Studio plan | Premium Subscriptions, More Actions, Cancel Plan | Stays active to the end of the billing cycle, then the site drops to a free Wix URL with Wix ads |
| Plan cancelled inside the 14-day refund period | Same place | Ends straight away with a full refund, and can't be revived by switching auto-renew back on |
| Domain | Premium Subscriptions, More Actions, Cancel domain | You own it until the end of the subscription period. Non-refundable, with no 14-day trial |
| Google Workspace business email | Premium Subscriptions, More Actions, Cancel subscription | Access until the end of the billing period. Non-refundable. Active add-ons end the same day |
| App subscription | More Actions next to the app, Cancel App | Only certain roles, such as site owners, see the option |
Cancelling your Premium plan, step by step
- Go to Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account.
- Click the More Actions icon next to the plan you want to cancel.
- Click Cancel Plan.
- Click Cancel Now to confirm.
That doesn't end the plan on the spot. It stays active until the current subscription period ends and simply doesn't renew. You can check the expiration date on the Premium Subscriptions page and see payment dates on your Billing History page. Until that date, you can change your mind by switching auto-renewal back on.
The 14-day refund window changes everything
Premium and Studio plans come with a 14-day refund period for first-time purchases. Cancel inside it and the plan ends immediately and you're fully refunded on Wix's side, though how long the refund takes to reach your account depends on your bank. The policy doesn't cover renewals, and it doesn't cover cancellations after day 14.
The trap is in the detail. If you want the plan to keep running until the end of the period, Wix says you must wait until the first 14 days are over before cancelling. And a plan cancelled inside that window can't be reactivated by turning auto-renew back on. You'd have to upgrade the site again and buy a new plan.
What your site looks like once the plan ends
Your site doesn't go offline. It stays published and can still be viewed, but the address reverts to the free Wix URL, in the form siteprefix.wixsite.com/siteaddress, and Wix ads appear. Your content stays intact. If you don't want the site live at all, you'll need to unpublish it or hide it from search results yourself.
Cancelling a plan also doesn't delete the site it's assigned to. To delete the site, cancel or unassign the plan first and then delete it. I've covered that in my guide to how you delete a Wix site and restore it if you need to. And if you only want the plan on a different site, you don't need to cancel: you can unassign it and assign it to another site in your account, which doesn't cancel the plan.
Domain, business email and apps are separate cancellations
Your site plan and your domain are separate services. Cancelling the domain turns off auto-renew, so you still own it until the end of the subscription period. Wix domains are non-refundable and have no 14-day trial, and they're set to renew automatically 30 days before the end of their subscription period, so check the renewal date listed next to the domain in Premium Subscriptions.
Google Workspace business email works the same way: when you cancel, auto-renewal stops and the subscription expires at the end of the billing period. Wix tries to take the renewal payment up to 30 days before the plan's expiration date, and you'll find the exact date in the Upcoming payment section of Premium Subscriptions. You can't cancel the remaining time instantly, and business emails bought through Wix are non-refundable. Your email data is kept under Google's own retention policies, and if you buy the email again within that retention period, the data's restored. Cancel the email and every active add-on is cancelled on the same day the email expires.
App subscriptions also renew automatically. Click the More Actions icon next to the app and then Cancel App. If you can't see that option, you may not have the right role, since only certain roles such as site owners can cancel. Remove the app from your site afterwards if you're not using it.
Changed your mind? Getting a plan back
Before the subscription ends, reactivating is one click: Turn Auto Renew On under the relevant subscription. Once it's ended, you buy a new plan. If a renewal failed because of a payment problem, update your payment details and Wix tries the charge again. If the plan was already cancelled for non-payment, upgrade the site again, and if that won't go through, unassign the cancelled plan from the site and try once more.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
One thing to know before you come back on a deal: Wix promotions such as a promo code are valid only for the first month or year of service. They can't be used to renew an existing Premium plan, and every renewal after that is charged at the plan's original price.
Why Wix might still ask you for payment
Wix gives two likely reasons for a payment email after you've cancelled. Either the plan was cancelled too late and renewed for another year, or an earlier payment was declined and there's an outstanding invoice. Once auto-renew is off and any outstanding charges are paid, you can close your Wix account straight away, without waiting for the period to end.
My verdict on cancelling Wix
I'd cancel the plan, the domain and the business email in the same sitting if you're leaving Wix for good, because each one renews on its own clock and none of them follows the others. If you're inside the first 14 days and want your refund, cancel now. If you'd rather keep the site running to the end of what you've paid for, wait until the window's closed. Skip cancelling altogether if what you want is a smaller bill: Wix lets you switch to a monthly billing cycle or a different plan instead. If you're weighing up a free site, here's my answer to is Wix free and what the free version shows visitors.
Cancelling a subscription is the kind of admin that's easy to forget until a renewal lands. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
Frequently asked questions
Does cancelling my Wix plan cancel my domain?
No. Your site plan and domain are separate services, so you need to cancel the domain separately in Premium Subscriptions.
Can I get a refund when I cancel Wix?
Premium and Studio plans have a 14-day refund period for first-time purchases. Renewals and cancellations after 14 days aren't refunded, and domains and business email bought through Wix are non-refundable.
Will my Wix site go offline when I cancel?
No. It stays live, but the address reverts to the free Wix URL and Wix ads appear. Unpublish the site or hide it from search results if you don't want it online.
Can I undo a Wix cancellation?
Yes, before the subscription ends, by turning auto-renew back on. Plans cancelled inside the 14-day refund period end straight away, so you'd need to buy a new plan.
Why was I charged after cancelling Wix?
Usually because the plan renewed before you cancelled, or because an earlier payment was declined and there's an outstanding invoice.
