Bluevine Review: Business Checking, Interest and Credit Lines

Bluevine is a US financial technology company, not a bank, offering online business checking with no monthly or overdraft fees on its Standard plan, interest on checking balances and FDIC insurance through Coastal Community Bank and its program banks. It suits small businesses and the self-employed who bank online and want interest without moving money into a separate savings account. As of October 2026, Bluevine lists 1.3% APY on Standard if you hit a monthly activity goal, and up to 3.0% APY on its upgraded plans.

Business banking is one of those decisions you only want to make once, so it's worth reading the small print before you switch. This review is built from Bluevine's checking, home and line of credit pages, read as of October 2026. I haven't moved a business through it for this page, so I'll stick to what Bluevine says and the questions that decide whether it fits.

What Bluevine is, and what it isn't

Bluevine's pages say it plainly: it's a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services come through Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC, and its program banks. That's why it can offer FDIC insurance up to 3 million dollars per depositor: Bluevine explains that it multiplies the standard 250,000 dollar FDIC coverage across multiple banks. If you hold large balances, that structure is worth understanding before you open the account.

Getting paid and paying bills

Bluevine leans hard into the admin around the account. You can send unlimited invoices from the dashboard at no charge, create estimates that convert into invoices, take in-person payments with Tap to Pay, receive ACH, wires and checks, and send payment links. On the outgoing side it offers bill pay by same-day ACH, standard ACH, check and wire, plus automated accounts payable with approval workflows you can share with your accountant. It also says international payments can arrive in as fast as 24 hours.

Credit, if you need it later

Bluevine's line of credit goes up to 250,000 dollars. Through lending partners it can also connect you to term loans of up to 500,000 dollars with terms up to 24 months, and to SBA 7(a) loans of up to 350,000 dollars. Having credit in the same place as your checking account makes the application easier, but compare the terms with your other options before you sign.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

  1. US small businesses and self-employed owners who don't need a branch: Bluevine is built to run online.
  2. Owners who keep a working balance in checking: the interest tiers reward money you'd leave there anyway.
  3. Businesses that pay contractors and suppliers often: bill pay, ACH and approvals cover most of it.
  4. Anyone who deposits cash every week: check how cash deposits work before you switch, because Bluevine's pages lead with digital payments.
  5. Businesses outside the US: this is a US account with FDIC cover, so look at banks in your own country.

My verdict on Bluevine

For a US small business that banks online and keeps a steady balance, Bluevine is worth a close look: no monthly fee on Standard, interest when you hit an activity goal and FDIC cover spread across partner banks. Read the activity goal carefully, because the headline APY depends on it. If your business handles a lot of cash or needs a local branch, a traditional bank may still suit you better.
