Shopify Inventory Management Apps (2026): 10 Compared

A Shopify inventory management app adds what the built-in stock tracking leaves out: demand forecasts, reorder points, purchase orders, bundles and syncing stock between stores or channels. Some are simple Shopify apps, some are full inventory systems and some connect several stores. Choose by how many locations and stores you run. Ten options follow, in no particular order.

Shopify tracks how many units you have, but it won't tell you when to reorder, how much to buy or what to do when one product sells out at one location and sits idle at another.

The ten apps below cover forecasting assistants, reorder tools, multi-store sync and full inventory systems. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website or Shopify App Store listing, read this week. If you're still choosing a platform, my comparison of Shopify alternatives may help first.

Shopify inventory management apps at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website or app store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

Shopify counts stock per location, and doesn't pool it

Shopify Help Center says that when you assign a product to several locations, inventory is tracked separately for each one. It also says each location's inventory is independent and can't be shared or pooled with other locations.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

So if you sell from a shop, a warehouse and a fulfilment service, you've got three separate stock levels for the same product. An inventory app that forecasts one total can say you're fine while one location runs out. Check that any app you choose can plan per location.

Five settings to get right in week one

  1. Turn on inventory tracking for every product you stock.
  2. Decide what happens when an item sells out at each location.
  3. Set reorder points for your best sellers first.
  4. Add supplier lead times so the app knows when to warn you.
  5. Set up bundles if you sell sets, so components are counted.

Built-in tracking or an app

For a small store with a handful of products, Shopify's own tracking may be enough. Once you have dozens of SKUs, several locations or seasonal swings, guessing starts to hurt in a different way: lost sales and dead stock.

Start with the problem that hurts most, whether that's running out, over-ordering or keeping two stores in sync, and pick the app that solves that one well. My list of inventory software for small business covers tools beyond Shopify too.

Signs your Shopify stock needs an app

  • You oversell regularly. Sync stock across channels.
  • One location runs out while another has plenty. Plan per location.
  • Reordering lives in a spreadsheet. Automate the alerts.
  • Bundles show wrong counts. Track components, not just sets.

My plain advice on Shopify inventory apps

Don't install an app until you know which number you want it to improve: fewer stock-outs, less money tied up in stock or fewer overselling mistakes. Pick the app that targets that number, set it up for your top twenty products and check the results after a month.

Then expand it to the rest of your catalogue, location by location.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Shopify inventory management app do?

It adds forecasts, reorder points, purchase orders, bundles or multi-store sync on top of Shopify's built-in stock tracking.

Does Shopify share stock between locations?

No. Shopify Help Center says each location's inventory is tracked separately and can't be shared or pooled.

Is there a free Shopify inventory app?

Some apps list a free plan. Check the free plan column and the app's listing for current limits.

Can I sync stock between two Shopify stores?

Yes. Multi-store sync apps keep inventory and products matched between stores.

Do I need an app for a small store?

Not always. Shopify's own tracking may be enough until you have many products or several locations.

What's the first thing to set up?

Reorder points and supplier lead times for your best-selling products.
