Edge Extensions (2026): 10 Microsoft Edge Add-ons Compared

The Edge extensions worth adding are the ones that cover a job you do every day: writing, translating, saving passwords, dark mode or controlling video speed. Each installs from Edge Add-ons, Microsoft's own store, in one click. Ten follow in no particular order, with user counts and ratings counts as the store shows them.

Microsoft Edge has its own store, Edge Add-ons, and the listings there run from AI sidebars and translators to coupon finders and a theme pack for one game. Several of them list millions of users.

Every detail below comes from each Edge Add-ons listing as of Oct 2026: users, ratings count, last updated date and publisher. Edge Add-ons shows a ratings count beside each listing, so that's what you'll see here rather than a star average. If you'd like an AI assistant built into your browser instead, my guide to the ChatGPT browser covers that route.

How these Microsoft Edge add-ons compare

I worked from what each listing shows: users, ratings count, last updated date and the publisher. The free plan column says Yes only where the listing text mentions free use; Not stated means it didn't say. None of this comes from my own checks.

What each kind of Edge extension is for

  • Emails, posts and documents in the browser: a writing assistant.
  • Quick questions without opening a new tab: an AI sidebar.
  • Pages, PDFs or videos in another language: a bilingual translator.
  • Logins across every site: a password manager.
  • Long videos and podcasts: a playback speed controller.
  • Shopping online: a coupon finder, if you're happy for it to see your basket.
  • A cluttered start page: a new tab extension.

Installs versus ratings counts on Edge

Here's something the headline numbers don't tell you. SimpleTab shows 1.4K ratings on 350,000 users, while Grammarly shows 1.2K ratings on 12,000,000 users, as of Oct 2026. The extension with a fraction of the users has more people rating it.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

So a huge user count doesn't mean lots of people have shared a view. Read the newest reviews, check the last updated date and look at who publishes an extension before you add anything that reads the pages you visit.

The other thing people ask about is covered in my vertical tabs roundup for Chrome.

Fresh update dates across the shelf

Every listing here shows an update between Sep 29, 2026 and Oct 29, 2026, as of Oct 2026, so none of them looks abandoned. That's worth checking on anything else you find in the store, because an extension that's gone quiet for a long time gets fewer fixes, and you won't know until something stops working.

Before you decide, have a look at the best Edge ad blockers.

Keep Edge lean

  1. Add one extension per job and switch off the rest from the extensions page.
  2. Make sure the publisher shown on the listing is the company you were looking for.
  3. Glance at the last updated date before you install.
  4. Read the permissions each one asks for, and say no if they seem out of proportion.

Do you make Edge extensions? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice for setting up Edge

Start with the job that eats most of your time. For a lot of us that's writing or passwords, so begin there and add translation, dark mode or speed control only when you feel the gap. Keep the list short, because every extension you add can see part of what you do online.

If passwords are the job, my Bitwarden vs 1Password comparison goes deeper on two of the big names.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I get Edge extensions?

From Edge Add-ons, Microsoft's own store. Open it from the extensions menu in Edge, find the listing and click Get.

Why don't Edge listings here show a star rating?

Edge Add-ons shows a ratings count beside each listing, so that's what I've given rather than a star average. Read the reviews on the listing for the detail.

Are Edge extensions free?

Some listings mention free use in their own text and the rest don't say either way, as of Oct 2026. The free plan column shows which.

How many extensions should I add to Edge?

Only the ones you use. Each extension can read some of what you do in the browser, so remove anything you've stopped using.

Does a big user count mean an Edge extension is safe?

Not on its own. A big user count tells you lots of people installed it, so check the publisher, the last updated date and the permissions as well.
