A dropshipping spy tool shows you which products other stores are selling, which ads are pushing them and roughly how well they're doing, so you can test products with evidence rather than guesses. Choose by where you start: products, competitor stores or ads. Ten options follow, in no particular order, from Shopify spy extensions to all-in-one research platforms.
Most dropshipping stores fail on product choice, not website design. A spy tool won't pick a product for you, but it will show you what's already selling, who's selling it and how they're advertising it.
The ten tools below range from free Shopify browser extensions to full research platforms. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If you're still setting up, my guide on launching a dropshipping store covers the steps before research.
Dropshipping spy tools at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

A winning product can still break shipping law
The Federal Trade Commission's business guide to its Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule says that if you make no shipping statement, you must have a reasonable basis for believing you can ship within 30 days. If you can't ship in the time you stated, or within 30 days, you must seek the customer's consent to the delay.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Spy tools rarely mention this. A product can look like a strong seller on every chart and still come from a supplier that takes weeks to ship. Before you scale a product to US customers, check the supplier's real delivery times and put an honest shipping statement on the product page.
Products, stores or ads: which comes first
Start from products if you have no niche yet. Product databases and curated lists show you what's trending and give you a shortlist to test.
Start from stores if you already know your niche. Store spy tools show a competitor's best sellers, apps and theme, which tells you how they run the business.
Start from ads if you want proof of demand. An ad that's run for weeks, with several versions, is a strong sign someone is making money from it.
Seven checks before you test a product
- How long have ads for it been running?
- How many stores already sell it?
- Can your supplier ship within the time you'll promise?
- Is the product safe and legal to sell where your customers live?
- Will it survive returns and reviews?
- Can you show it in a short video?
- Does the tool's data come with a date, so you know it's fresh?
Signs a product is already too crowded
- Every store uses the same video. You're late.
- Ads are cutting the offer. Margins are gone.
- Reviews mention slow delivery. Supply is stretched.
- Big brands sell it too. You can't win on reach.
Do you make a dropshipping spy tool? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice on spying on dropshipping stores
Use the tools to cut your shortlist, not to make the decision. Pick three products with clear demand, order samples, check delivery times and only then spend money on ads. The sellers who last are the ones who treat spy data as a starting point and do the boring checks the charts can't show.
My dropshipping tips cover what to fix on the store once a product starts selling.
Frequently asked questions
What is a dropshipping spy tool?
It's software that shows which products other online stores sell, which ads promote them and how they're performing, so you can choose products with evidence.
Are there free dropshipping spy tools?
Some offer a free plan or a free browser extension. Check the free plan column above and confirm on each vendor's site.
Can a spy tool see a store's sales?
Most show estimates based on public signals. They're useful for comparing products, not exact accounts.
Is spying on competitor stores allowed?
Looking at public stores and ads is normal research. Copying their images, text or brand isn't.
How long should I test a product?
Long enough to get real data from ads and orders. Decide your stop rule before you start.
What's the 30-day rule?
It's the FTC rule that you must have a reasonable basis for shipping within the time you state, or within 30 days if you state nothing.
