The right audio to MIDI tool depends on what you need the notes for. Some converters turn a recording into a quick MIDI file, some write sheet music and tabs with MIDI alongside, some let you sing MIDI into your DAW live, and some print MIDI from one part of a finished mix. Decide the job, then the tool.
You've got a riff on a voice memo, a piano take you love, or a song you want to learn, and you want the notes in your DAW without playing them back in by hand. That's the promise of audio to MIDI, but the tools selling it do quite different things.
This list covers ten converters, using only what each maker's own website says, read on 2 Nov 2026 (as of Nov 2026). It's alphabetical and in no particular order. It's about turning existing recordings into MIDI and notation, not generating new music from prompts.

Ten audio to MIDI converters, one line each
AnthemScore
Best for: Turning MP3s and other audio files into sheet music or MIDI on Windows, Mac or Linux, then fixing notes, key and tempo by hand.
AudioScore
Best for: Creating scores from MP3s and CD tracks and saving MusicXML or MIDI files to open in other music programs.
Basic Pitch
Best for: Dropping in a recording of one instrument, or singing into your computer, and getting a MIDI file back to fine-tune in your DAW.
Dubler
Best for: Singing a melody, humming a bassline or beatboxing a drum line live and having it land in your DAW session as MIDI.
Fadr
Best for: Detecting MIDI from a song on a platform where MIDI detection sits beside stem separation and a remix maker.
Klangio
Best for: Exporting a transcription as sheet music, MIDI, MusicXML or Guitar Pro, starting from music, an MP3 or a YouTube link.
Piano2Notes
Best for: Piano recordings, uploaded or from a YouTube link, turned into notes you can view, edit and download as sheet music, MIDI and MusicXML.
RipX DAW
Best for: Printing one part of a mixed track to MIDI and loading it into a VST of your choice, inside a DAW that edits audio note by note.
ScoreCloud
Best for: Recording single-instrument audio, or playing a MIDI keyboard, into notation software with MusicXML and MIDI exports.
Songscription
Best for: Uploading an MP3, WAV or M4A file, pasting a YouTube, Instagram or TikTok link, or recording audio, and getting sheet music, MIDI and guitar tabs.
Four jobs sold as audio to MIDI
Here's the split you wouldn't guess: 'audio to MIDI' is sold as four different jobs. One is a quick MIDI file from a recording. Another is sheet music and tabs, with MIDI as a by-product. A third is your voice as a live MIDI input, and the fourth is MIDI printed from one part of a mix. So the right tool depends on what you need the notes for.
Basic Pitch calls itself an 'audio-to-MIDI converter with pitch bend detection'. With Dubler, 'your voice is your MIDI controller'. And RipX lets you 'print audio to MIDI to load a specific part into a VST of your choice'. Three tools, three different jobs.
- A quick MIDI file: one recording in, one MIDI file out.
- Notation first: sheet music, tabs or MusicXML, with MIDI in the export list.
- Your voice live: sing or beatbox and the MIDI lands in your session.
- One part of a mix: pull a single instrument out of a finished track as MIDI.
For a cleaner result, strip the singer out first with one of these vocal removers.
A quick MIDI file from a single recording
The simplest job is one recording in and one MIDI file out. One open-source converter here asks you to press record and sing into your computer, or drop a recording of any single instrument (piano, guitar, xylophone, you name it), and get a MIDI version back to fine-tune and correct in your digital audio workstation.
A music platform on this list puts MIDI detection next to its stem tools and remix maker, so it's handy if you're already splitting a song into parts.

If the melody sits too high or low, you can change the key of a song before you convert it.
Sheet music and tabs, with MIDI in the export list
AnthemScore says to 'turn audio files like MP3 into sheet music, PDF, or MIDI', and lets you change the time signature, key signature or tempo for any measure. Songscription turns 'your audio into sheet music, MIDI, and guitar tabs', and its page says a Multi-Instrument mode transcribes a mixed recording with a separate part for each instrument.
Another tool exports a transcription as sheet music, MIDI, MusicXML or Guitar Pro. And one desktop program says you can send results to Sibelius or save MusicXML and MIDI files for programs such as Finale or Dorico. If notation's the goal, MIDI comes along with it.
Your voice, or one part of a finished mix
One plugin turns singing into MIDI as you perform. Its page says 'sing the melody, vocalise the effect rack, beatbox the drum line', and your ideas land in your session as MIDI the moment you voice them. That's a live input, not a file converter.
At the other end, one DAW here edits notes inside an already mixed file and prints a single part to MIDI for a separate VST or synth. And one notation app records single-instrument audio, or takes notes from a MIDI keyboard, before exporting MIDI or MusicXML.
Questions before you convert a recording
- Is it one instrument, or a full mix?
- Do I want a MIDI file, sheet music, tabs, or all three?
- Am I starting from a file, a video link or my own voice?
- Will I edit the notes in a DAW or in notation software?
- Do I need MIDI live while I perform, or after the recording?
- Do I want to work in a browser or install software?

My advice for turning audio into MIDI
Name the job before you upload anything. For a quick MIDI file from one instrument, start with a simple converter and fix the notes in your DAW. If you want something to read or play from, pick a notation tool and treat the MIDI as a bonus. If you think in melodies rather than keys, try a voice-to-MIDI plugin, and if the part you want is buried in a finished mix, look at the DAW that prints one part to MIDI. One maker's page also reminds you that transcribing copyright music without permission is illegal, so work from music you have the right to use.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert an MP3 to MIDI?
Yes. One desktop program turns audio files like MP3 into sheet music, PDF or MIDI, another transcribes MP3s and CD tracks and saves MIDI files, and an online tool accepts MP3, WAV or M4A uploads.
Can I turn my voice into MIDI?
Yes, two ways. One plugin makes your voice a MIDI controller, so a melody or a beatboxed drum line lands in your DAW as MIDI as you voice it. An open-source converter here also lets you sing into your computer and get a MIDI version back.
Which of these give me sheet music and guitar tabs as well as MIDI?
Several. One turns audio into sheet music, MIDI and guitar tabs, one exports sheet music, MIDI, MusicXML or Guitar Pro, and one desktop program lets you choose standard sheet music or tablature.
Can I start from a YouTube link?
Some tools say so. One takes music, an MP3 or a YouTube link, a piano app lets you upload a recording or use a YouTube link, and another accepts YouTube, Instagram or TikTok links.
Can I get MIDI for one instrument inside a full song?
One DAW on this list lets you print audio to MIDI to load a specific part into a VST, and one transcription tool has a Multi-Instrument mode that gives a separate part for each instrument in a mixed recording.
Which of these run on Windows, Mac or Linux?
One desktop transcription program runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, one transcription program runs on Windows and Mac, and one notation app offers downloads for PC and Mac. An open-source converter here runs as a browser demo.
