An ASVAB app gives you practice questions, lessons and mock tests for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, the test every branch of the US military uses to decide whether you can enlist and which jobs you qualify for. Some give you free daily questions, others start with a trial. Ten apps follow, in no particular order.
The ASVAB isn't a pass or fail test in the usual sense. Your scores decide whether you can enlist at all and which military jobs open up to you, so a few extra points can change your career.
The apps below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and each description comes from the provider's own App Store listing, read this week. For general study habits that stick, my ChatGPT prompts for studying and revision turn any weak topic into a quick quiz.
ASVAB apps at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each provider's own App Store listing, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the listing names a free version, a free tier, free lessons or tests, or a free daily set of questions. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the listing I read named neither, even where there's a download button, so check the provider's own page before you subscribe.

What the official ASVAB site says about your score
The Official ASVAB website, run for the Department of Defense, explains that your Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score is worked out from just four subtests: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Word Knowledge.
The AFQT is reported as a percentile from 1 to 99. An AFQT of 50 means you scored as well as or better than 50% of a national sample of 18 to 23 year olds. The other subtests still matter, because they're used to decide which jobs you qualify for.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Why the four AFQT subtests deserve most of your time
It's tempting to spread revision evenly across every section. But the AFQT is what decides whether you can enlist, and it only uses arithmetic, maths knowledge, reading and vocabulary.
Get those four strong first, then move on to the technical sections such as mechanical comprehension and electronics if you're aiming for a specific job. The official site also has sample questions from each subtest, which are worth trying before you start with any app.

A four-week ASVAB plan
- Week 1: take one full practice test to find your weakest subtests.
- Week 2: focus on arithmetic reasoning and maths knowledge every day.
- Week 3: switch to word knowledge and paragraph comprehension, with daily vocabulary.
- Week 4: technical subtests for the jobs you want, then a final full practice test.

Four checks before you pick an ASVAB app
- All subtests covered. Check the app covers every section, not only the AFQT four.
- The format you'll sit. The computer version and the PiCAT work differently from paper.
- Explanations. Maths questions are only useful if you can see how the answer was worked out.
- Prep claims. The official site warns about fraudulent prep claims, so be wary of promises.

My plain advice on ASVAB apps
Start with the official sample questions, then pick one app and put most of your time into the four AFQT subtests. Talk to your recruiter about the score your chosen job needs, and practise until your mock results clear it with room to spare.
