An AI voice agent platform lets you build an agent that answers or makes phone calls, understands what callers say and replies in a natural voice. Platforms differ in how much code they need, which phone systems they connect to and how they handle compliance. Choose by who'll build and run the agent. Ten options follow, in no particular order.
A voice agent that picks up every call, books the appointment and passes the hard ones to a person can change how a business runs. A badly built one can lose customers in a single call.
The ten platforms below cover developer frameworks, no-code builders and enterprise contact centre platforms. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If you're weighing agents against people, my comparison of AI voice agents and traditional call centres sets out the trade-offs.
AI voice agent platforms at a glance
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial or trial credit. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

The consent rule for AI voices on US calls
The Federal Communications Commission's declaratory ruling confirms that the TCPA's restrictions on the use of an artificial or prerecorded voice cover current AI technologies that generate human voices. As a result, calls that use them require the prior express consent of the called party.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
For inbound calls, the caller has rung you. For outbound calls, an AI agent is treated like a robocall, so record consent before the first campaign and keep the records with your CRM.
Design the call before you build the agent
- Write down the three call types the agent will handle first.
- Decide exactly when it hands the caller to a person.
- List the systems it must check, such as a calendar or CRM.
- Script the greeting so callers know they're talking to AI.
- Plan what happens when the agent doesn't understand.
Measure what matters
Containment, the share of calls finished without a human, is the number vendors love. It isn't the only one. Track how many callers hang up, how many ask for a person and how many bookings or sales the agent completes.
Listen to real calls every week in the first month. Recordings will show you problems no dashboard can.
Signs your voice agent needs work
- Callers keep asking for a person. Narrow the job.
- Long silences. Check the latency.
- Wrong bookings. Test the calendar connection.
- Complaints about consent. Review your outbound lists.

My plain advice on AI voice agents
Start with one narrow job, such as booking appointments or answering opening hours, and get it working well before adding more. A focused agent that does one thing reliably earns trust. A broad one that does ten things badly loses it.
My voice agent call flow template helps you map that first job before you open any platform.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI voice agent platform?
It's software for building and running AI agents that handle phone calls, using speech recognition, a language model and a synthetic voice.
Do I need a developer to build a voice agent?
Not always. Some platforms offer no-code builders, while others are frameworks for developers.
Is it legal to use an AI voice for outbound calls in the US?
The FCC confirmed AI voices fall under the TCPA's rules on artificial voices, so those calls need the called party's prior express consent.
Should the agent say it's AI?
Yes. Telling callers at the start builds trust and helps with transparency rules in several countries.
Can a voice agent transfer calls to a person?
Most platforms support call transfer. Decide the rules for handing over before you launch.
How do I know if a voice agent is working?
Track hang-ups, requests for a person and completed bookings or sales, and listen to recorded calls every week.
