The best AI tools for ecommerce handle the jobs that grow with every product you add: writing listings, making product photos, answering shoppers and recommending what to buy next. Some live inside Shopify, some work across every sales channel. Eleven options follow in no particular order.
An online store makes the same small decisions thousands of times: which photo, which description, which product to suggest, which question to answer at eleven at night.
AI is good at exactly that kind of repetition. The eleven tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If product descriptions are your first headache, my ChatGPT prompts for ecommerce product descriptions are a free way to start.
AI ecommerce tools side by side
I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site names a free plan, a free version, a free account or a free way to start. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to try it, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

The FTC rule on reviews that AI can trip over
The Federal Trade Commission's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials went into effect on October 21, 2024, and targets fake, false or otherwise deceptive reviews. In its questions and answers on the rule, the FTC says there's no blanket ban on AI-generated avatars in marketing, but a company's use of such an avatar might be considered a testimonial under the rule.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
So AI can write your product copy, but it can't invent your customers. Any review, quote or avatar that looks like a real buyer speaking needs to come from a real buyer, and that's worth checking before you switch on any tool that writes reviews or social proof for you.
Built for Shopify or built for every channel?
Shopify-first tools install from the app store and read your catalogue straight away. They're the quickest route for a single-store brand.
Channel-wide tools feed your own site, marketplaces and retail partners from one catalogue. They earn their place once you sell the same products in several places.
Either way, start with the job that takes up the most hours each week, not the tool with the longest feature list.
Questions to ask before adding AI to a store
- Does it work with your store platform and theme?
- Can you review AI-written copy before it goes live?
- Will the chatbot hand over to a human when it should?
- Does it slow down your product pages?
- Who owns the images and text it creates?
- How will you measure whether it lifted sales?
Store owners comparing platforms can browse every ecommerce and creator platform list.
Signs your store has outgrown doing it by hand
- New products wait weeks for copy. Write listings in bulk.
- Photos look different on every page. Standardise them with AI.
- The same five questions fill the inbox. Let an agent answer.
- Shoppers leave without adding a second item. Test recommendations.

My advice for store owners adding AI
Add one tool at a time and give it a clean month. If you switch on AI copy, AI photos and an AI chatbot in the same week, you'll never know which one moved the numbers.
For stores that already get plenty of questions through chat, my guide to choosing live chat support software for ecommerce helps you set up the human side first.
Frequently asked questions
What can AI do for an online store?
It can write and enrich product listings, create product photos, answer shopper questions, recommend products, personalise emails and help a support team handle more tickets.
Can AI write my product descriptions?
Yes. Several tools here write descriptions in bulk. Edit a sample first to check tone and accuracy before you publish the rest.
Is it legal to use AI-generated reviews?
No, not as if they were real customer reviews. The FTC rule on consumer reviews targets fake reviews and says an AI avatar used in marketing might count as a testimonial.
Which AI tools work with Shopify?
Many tools here are built for Shopify or connect to it. Check each vendor's integration list for your platform.
Are there free AI tools for ecommerce?
A few name a free plan, and others offer a free trial. The free plan column above shows what each vendor's site said when I checked.
Will an AI chatbot replace my support team?
It can answer routine questions such as order status and returns, but customers still need a person for anything unusual or upset.
