AI Tools for Churches (2026): 10 for Comms, Media and Giving

The most practical AI tools for churches take the Sunday message further: they clip the sermon for social media, transcribe the service, design the graphics and help run giving and engagement. Most church management suites barely mention AI on their home pages, so the AI-led picks are mainly media and content tools. Ten follow in no particular order.

Church offices run on small teams and willing volunteers, and the weekly sermon is usually the richest piece of content they have. AI's biggest gift here isn't writing anything new. It's helping that one message reach people on Tuesday as well as Sunday, without burning out the comms team.

The ten tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from each vendor's own website, read as of Oct 2026. For a wider look at how churches are using AI, from admin to pastoral care, my guide to AI for churches covers the bigger picture.

Church AI tools at a glance: media, content and giving

I checked the free plan column on each vendor's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the page names a free plan, a free version or an open source edition. Trial only means the page names a time-limited free trial. Not stated means the page I read named neither, so check the vendor's own site before you sign up.

Ten AI tools for church comms and ministry

Canva

Best for: Church comms volunteers making social posts, presentations and short videos with AI tools inside one visual suite.

Descript

Best for: Editing service recordings and podcasts by editing the transcript, with automatic transcription and AI clean-up of sound and slips.

Gloo

Best for: Ministries and their developers who want values-aligned AI models and design tools from a platform built around churches and faith groups.

Ministry Brands

Best for: Churches wanting a management suite whose AI turns one sermon into posts, study guides and video, and says sermons never train its models.

Otter

Best for: Searchable transcripts and summaries of staff meetings, interviews and teaching sessions, so nobody has to take notes by hand.

Pulpit AI

Best for: Turning one sermon into discussion questions, devotionals, blog posts and captioned clips, all in the preacher's own voice.

Pushpay

Best for: Churches that want giving, groups and engagement unified on one platform, as it rebuilds ChurchStaq and ParishStaq into something more modern.

Resi

Best for: Streaming a service to several platforms at once, with a Studio AI product built to take the recording from stream to social.

Sermon Shots

Best for: Media teams wanting 10+ reels, images, guides and summaries from each sermon, then editing captions and visuals to match the church style.

Subsplash

Best for: Congregations that want a church app, online giving, media, websites, groups and messaging from a single vendor.

Where the AI sits in church software

Here's what I noticed reading the vendor pages. The church management suites mostly sell people, check-in, groups and giving, and say little about AI on their home pages. The Planning Center home page I read, for example, talks about checking in kids, volunteer schedules, group chat and prayer requests. The one big exception here is Ministry Brands, which has launched its own AI platform called Equip.

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

The tools leading with AI are the content ones: sermon clipping, sermon repurposing, transcription and editing. So for most churches the sensible route is to keep your management system and add one or two content tools on top.

Write your church AI policy before the tools

This is the step most churches skip. Pushpay's home page offers a free AI policy generator and says 64% of churches believe an AI policy is important, but only 5% have one. A short policy settles the awkward questions before a volunteer meets them on a Saturday night:

  • Your sermons. Can a vendor use them to train its AI? One suite here states plainly that sermon content is never used to train its models. Ask every vendor the same question.
  • Voices and faces. Some editors can clone a voice. Decide whether that's ever acceptable, and never do it without the speaker's clear permission.
  • People on camera. Agree what consent you need before clips of the congregation, and especially children, go online.
  • Who checks. Name the person who reads every AI caption, summary and devotional before it's published.

One sermon, a week of content

  1. Stream or record the service as usual.
  2. Transcribe it, so you've got the text to search and quote.
  3. Cut short clips with captions for social media.
  4. Turn the transcript into a small-group guide, discussion questions or a devotional, then have a pastor check it.
  5. Design the matching graphics and schedule everything across the week.

If you'd like the workflow without AI tools at all, my guide to turning one recording into a week of content walks through the same idea step by step.

My plain advice for churches trying AI

Write your AI policy first, even if it's one page. Then pick a single job, usually clipping or repurposing the Sunday sermon, and trial one tool for a month with your existing volunteers. If it saves them real hours and the content still sounds like your church, keep it. If it sounds generic, drop it, because your congregation will notice.

For the everyday software side, from rotas to newsletters, my roundup of useful digital tools for churches is a good companion.

Frequently asked questions

How can churches use AI?

Churches use AI to clip sermons for social media, transcribe services, write small-group guides from a sermon, design graphics, edit recordings and help run giving and engagement.

Should a church write an AI policy?

Yes. A short policy covering sermon content, voice cloning, consent for filming and who checks AI output avoids awkward decisions later.

Can AI write sermons?

This list isn't about writing sermons. These tools work from a sermon your pastor has already preached, turning it into clips, transcripts and study material.

Is there free AI for churches?

One tool on this list named a free plan on its page and one named a free trial, shown in the free plan column. Check each vendor's own site.

Will AI tools use our sermons to train their models?

It depends on the vendor. One church suite here states it never trains AI on sermon content. Ask every vendor before you upload anything.
