Best AI Personal Assistants (2026): 10 Apps Compared

An AI personal assistant takes everyday admin off your plate: it remembers what you tell it, sets reminders, plans your day and can reach into your calendar, email or notes. Some live in your text messages, some are daily planners and one is built for families. Ten options follow in no particular order.

Most of us don't need an assistant to write an essay. We need something that remembers the dentist on Thursday, moves a meeting when the train's late and reminds us to reply to the email we keep putting off.

That's the job these apps are trying to do. The ten tools below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If you're still deciding between an assistant and a simple chatbot, my explainer on whether an AI assistant beats a chatbot for business tasks is a useful first read.

AI personal assistants at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free or open source. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to try it, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

What Google checks before an app reads your Gmail

Google's API Services User Data Policy says apps that use certain sensitive and restricted Google scopes must show they follow set security practices. Depending on the API being accessed and the number of users, those apps must pass an annual security assessment and obtain a Letter of Assessment from a Google-designated third party.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

That's useful to know when an assistant asks to connect to your email or calendar. The consent screen tells you exactly what it wants to read or change. If it asks for more than the job needs, such as full mailbox access for a reminders app, that's your cue to look elsewhere or connect a separate account.

Chat assistant, planner or text-message helper?

A chat assistant is the most flexible. You ask in plain language and it answers, drafts or researches, but it only acts on your calendar or inbox if you connect them.

A planner assistant starts from your tasks and meetings and builds the day for you. It suits people whose problem is too much to fit in, not too much to remember.

A text-message helper lives in the app you already open all day. You send it a message the way you'd text a friend, and it replies, reminds or acts.

Six questions to ask before you connect your accounts

  1. Which accounts does it need: calendar, email, notes or all three?
  2. Can it send messages for you, or only draft them?
  3. Where does it store what you tell it?
  4. Can you delete its memory of you?
  5. Does it work on your phone as well as your laptop?
  6. What happens to your data if you stop using it?

Signs you've outgrown your to-do list

  • You forget tasks you wrote down. Try reminders by text.
  • Your day never matches the plan. Try a planner.
  • Family plans live in five apps. Try one shared helper.
  • Notes go in and never come out. Try an assistant that resurfaces them.

My plain advice on AI personal assistants

Give one assistant one job for two weeks before you connect everything. Reminders and daily planning are the easiest wins. Once it's earned your trust there, let it into your calendar, and only then your inbox.

If your inbox is the real problem, read my take on why AI made your inbox worse and what to do instead before you hand it over to any tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI personal assistant?

It's an app that uses AI to take on everyday admin, such as reminders, calendar planning, notes and messages, often by connecting to accounts you already use.

Are AI personal assistants free?

Some have a free plan and others offer a trial. Check the free plan column above and confirm what's included on each vendor's site.

Is it safe to connect an AI assistant to Gmail?

Read the consent screen first. Google says apps using sensitive and restricted scopes must follow set security practices and may need an annual security assessment.

Can an AI assistant book meetings for me?

Several can coordinate meetings and plan your schedule once they're connected to your calendar. Check whether it sends invites itself or asks you first.

What's the difference between an AI assistant and a chatbot?

A chatbot answers questions. An assistant also remembers your context and can act on your calendar, tasks or messages.

Do AI assistants help with ADHD?

Some are built with ADHD in mind, pulling notes, emails and to-dos into one place so you can just ask instead of remembering where things live.
