AI B-Roll Generators (2026): 10 Tools Compared

An AI B-roll generator creates or adds cutaway footage to your video, either by generating new shots from a prompt or image, or by inserting matching clips automatically while it edits. Choose by whether you need brand-new generated shots or quick cutaways added to talking videos. Ten options follow, in no particular order.

B-roll is the footage that plays while you're talking: the product close-up, the street scene, the hands on a keyboard. It keeps viewers watching, but filming it takes time most solo creators and small businesses don't have.

The ten tools below either generate new footage or add B-roll to your edit for you. They're listed alphabetically and in no particular order, and every description comes from the vendor's own website, read this week. If you'd rather film your own, my B-roll shot list template makes it quicker.

AI B-roll generators at a glance

I checked the free plan column on each tool's own website, as of Oct 2026. Yes means the site says the tool, or a plan or version of it, is free. Trial only means a time-limited trial. Not stated means the pages I read named neither, even where there's a button inviting you to start, so check the vendor's page before you sign up.

Realistic AI footage may need a disclosure label

YouTube Help says creators must disclose AI-generated or altered content that seems realistic, including content that makes a real person appear to say or do something they didn't do, or that alters footage of a real event or place.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Most B-roll is harmless: a coffee cup, a laptop, a sunset. But a generated shot of a real city street, a real shop or a real event can fall inside that rule. If your cutaway could make a viewer believe something real happened, tick the disclosure when you upload.

Generated shots or auto-inserted B-roll?

Generators create footage that didn't exist, from a text prompt or a still image. They're the right choice when you need a specific shot you can't film, but you'll spend time writing prompts and rejecting results.

Auto-edit tools add B-roll to a video you've already recorded. They read your words and insert matching clips. They're faster for talking-head content, though the matches can be literal.

Many creators use both: an auto-editor for everyday videos and a generator for the few shots that matter.

Six questions before you choose a tool

  1. Do you need new shots, or cutaways added to a recording?
  2. Can you control the style so shots match your brand?
  3. How long can each generated clip be?
  4. Can you replace a cutaway you don't like in one click?
  5. Does the tool tell you whether you can use clips commercially?
  6. Is there a free plan, a trial or neither?

Signs your B-roll is hurting the video

  • It doesn't match the words. Viewers notice.
  • It plays for too long. Cut back sooner.
  • It looks like stock. Use your own shots for key moments.
  • It hides your face for minutes. People came for you.

My plain advice on AI B-roll

Use B-roll to show, never to pad. Every cutaway should show the thing you're talking about at that moment, whether that's the product, the problem or the result. Random pretty footage makes a video feel like an advert, and viewers can tell. If a shot doesn't add information, cut back to your face.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI B-roll generator?

It's a tool that creates cutaway footage from prompts or images, or adds matching clips to a video you've recorded.

Can I use AI B-roll on YouTube?

Yes, but YouTube requires a disclosure for realistic AI content that alters footage of a real event or place, or shows a real person doing something they didn't.

Is AI B-roll free?

Some tools name a free plan or free credits. Check the free plan column above and confirm on each vendor's site.

How long should a B-roll clip be?

Usually a few seconds. Cutaways work best when they match one sentence and then return to the speaker.

Can AI B-roll replace filming?

For generic shots, often. For your own product, team or location, real footage is more convincing.

Do auto-edit tools pick good B-roll?

They're quick but literal, so review every cutaway before you publish.
