Apify Alternatives (2026): 10 Web Scraping Tools Compared

The right Apify alternative depends on who's building the scraper: no-code tools suit marketers and researchers, scraping APIs suit developers who want blocks and proxies handled, and open-source frameworks suit teams who want full control. Whatever you choose, scrape responsibly and respect each site's terms and rules.

Apify made it easy to run ready-made scrapers and build your own. But some people want something simpler, some want a pure API, and some want open-source code they can run anywhere.

Below are ten alternatives in no particular order, sorted alphabetically, from small specialist tools to established data companies. Each description comes from the company's own website, re-checked today. If you're using scraped data for marketing, my guide to managing marketing data helps you keep it useful.

Be clear about the data you need and how often. A one-off list for research is a very different job from a daily feed of listings, and that decides which kind of tool fits.

Apify alternatives at a glance

In the free plan column, Yes means the company's own site describes a free plan or free open-source use, Trial only means a trial or starter credits, and No means neither is stated. Most scraping services work on usage-based plans.

What robots.txt does not mean

Here's a point many people get backwards. RFC 9309, the IETF standard for the Robots Exclusion Protocol, says robots.txt rules are ones crawlers are requested to honour, and states plainly that these rules are not a form of access authorization. A missing rule isn't permission, and a block is a request you should respect.

So treat robots.txt as one signal among several. Read the site's terms, avoid personal data unless you have a lawful reason, keep your request rate gentle, and prefer an official API when the site offers one. Responsible scraping protects your reputation as much as the site's servers.

Questions to ask before you scrape

  • Is there an official API? It's usually more reliable and clearly allowed.
  • What do the terms say? Some sites forbid automated collection.
  • Is it personal data? Privacy laws apply to names, emails and profiles.
  • How often do you need it? One-off or scheduled?
  • Where will the data go? A spreadsheet, a database or an AI tool?

Running a small scraping project responsibly

  1. Define exactly which fields you need, and nothing more.
  2. Check the site's terms and robots.txt.
  3. Start with a small test run at a slow rate.
  4. Clean and check the data before you use it.
  5. Schedule refreshes only as often as the data really changes.

Good uses of scraping for a small business

  • Market research: what competitors list publicly.
  • Content ideas: common questions in public forums.
  • Directory checks: making sure your listings are correct.
  • Monitoring: spotting changes on pages that matter to you.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Keep an eye on data quality too. Websites change their layouts without warning, and a scraper that worked last week can quietly start returning blanks or the wrong fields, so spot-check a few rows every time it runs.

Document what you collect and why. It keeps the project focused and makes privacy questions much easier to answer if anyone asks.

Do you make web scraping tools? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on Apify alternatives

Start with no-code tools if you're not a developer. You'll get useful data in an afternoon, and you'll learn what you need before paying for anything bigger.

And collect less than you think you need. Every extra field is more to clean, store and protect, and most projects use a handful of columns.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good alternative to Apify?

No-code scrapers suit non-developers, scraping APIs suit developers, and open-source frameworks suit teams who want full control.

Is web scraping legal?

It depends on the data, the site's terms and local laws. Avoid personal data without a lawful reason and respect site rules.

Does robots.txt give permission to scrape?

No. RFC 9309 says robots.txt rules are not a form of access authorization.

Can I scrape without coding?

Yes. No-code tools let you point and click to choose the data you want.

What is a scraping API?

It's a service that fetches pages for you, handling proxies, browsers and blocks.

Is there a free web scraper?

Several tools have free plans or are open source, usually with limits.

How do I avoid getting blocked?

Scrape slowly, respect robots.txt and use official APIs where available.

Can scraped data feed AI tools?

Yes. Some crawlers turn pages into clean text built for AI apps.

How often should I refresh scraped data?

Only as often as the data changes. Daily is plenty for most business uses.

Should I use proxies?

Large projects often need them, but small, polite scrapes usually don't.

Can I scrape social media sites?

Many social platforms forbid scraping in their terms and offer official APIs instead, so check those first.
