In the UK, Google's payment table offers EFT and wire transfer for AdSense, with check and Hyperwallet marked unavailable. EFT pays in British pounds after a test deposit, and Google's table sets sixty pounds as the payment threshold, so plan for identity and address checks before the first payout.
If you're a British publisher or YouTuber, the part of AdSense that trips people up isn't earning the money. It's knowing how it lands in your bank, in which currency, and what has to be done before the first payment turns up. I've pulled this together from Google's own help pages, so you can see what the UK is offered rather than what a forum thread remembers.
EFT into a British bank account is the UK's main route
Google's payment-method table gives the United Kingdom a clear pattern. Check is marked no, Hyperwallet is marked no, and both EFT and wire transfer are marked yes. The same row appears for AdSense and for YouTube, so a website owner and a YouTuber in Britain see the same choices.
EFT is the one most people want, because Google's EFT page describes it as a direct deposit into your bank account in your local currency. For the United Kingdom, that page lists the British pound as the currency. So your earnings can arrive as pounds without you having to arrange anything unusual.
The test deposit you'll need to see before EFT switches on
Google's EFT page says the United Kingdom needs a test deposit. That means Google sends a small amount to your account, usually less than one US dollar according to its test deposit page, and you confirm the amount in your AdSense account before EFT is trusted.
- The test deposit may take one to five business days to appear on your statement.
- If nothing has shown up after ten working days, Google says your bank details may be wrong.
- You get three goes at entering the amount, then you're blocked and have to contact AdSense support.
- Bank fees can change the figure you see, so ask your bank for the original amount if it doesn't match.
Do this early. Google's EFT page also warns that if you pick EFT after the 20th of the month, it can't promise EFT for that month's payment.
What the pound thresholds look like
AdSense uses several thresholds, and they depend on your reporting currency. Google's table for the British pound reads like this:
| Threshold | British pound figure in Google's table |
|---|---|
| Tax information | Not applicable |
| Payment method selection | 10 pounds |
| Payment | 60 pounds |
| Cancelation | 10 pounds |
So you can choose a payment method once your balance reaches ten pounds, but you won't be paid until it reaches sixty. Google says a payment goes out when your outstanding earnings pass the payment threshold, as long as there are no holds on the account and you're following Program policies.
Wire transfer and the euro route as back-ups
Wire is the other yes in the UK row. Google's wire page says it sends your earnings in US dollars or euros, depending on your account currency, by international wire to the bank you name. That's a different experience from EFT, because the money isn't arriving as pounds from the start, and your bank's conversion is part of the story. Ask your bank what it charges for incoming international payments before you rely on it.
The United Kingdom also appears on Google's SEPA page among the countries where payments in euros are available. Google adds that not every bank supports SEPA EFT, so it recommends checking with your bank before signing up. If you earn in euros, that's worth a quick phone call.
The monthly calendar for UK payments
Google says the payment cycle is monthly. Your earnings are finalised at the start of the following month, then a payment is issued between the 21st and the 26th if the balance is over the threshold and there's no hold. Any change to payment details, including removing a hold, must be finished on or before the 20th, or it waits for the next cycle.
After Google issues a payment, you receive it up to seven business days later. If it hasn't turned up by the end of the month, Google's advice is to follow up with your bank.

Identity, PIN and address checks for a UK address
Google says the identity verification threshold is now zero, so you verify your identity before the account starts showing ads and receiving payments. Address verification is still ten US dollars or the local equivalent.
The PIN is a six-digit number mailed to your payments address by international standard mail. There's no tracking, it usually takes about three weeks, and entering it wrongly three times stops your ads. You have four months from when it's generated to finish. If identity checks were requested, Google doesn't send the PIN until those are done, so a British publisher should do identity first and keep the address exactly as it appears on their documents.
US tax forms when your audience is American
This part matters most to YouTubers. According to YouTube's help page, every monetising creator has to give tax information, wherever they live. For creators outside the US who submit it, withholding falls between zero and thirty on earnings from US viewers, depending on treaty status, and the deadline is the tenth of December each year.
The IRS publishes a list of United States income tax treaties, and the United Kingdom has an entry on it. Whether that changes anything for your income is a question for a UK accountant, not a help article, so please ask one before you file anything.
Where to read more once the money starts moving
If you're changing bank details on a YouTube channel, how to switch the payment method on a YouTube account walks through the screens. And if AdSense is only one of several income streams, how book royalties reach a UK account and how Patreon payouts work for creators in the UK cover the other sides of getting paid.
Frequently asked questions
Does Google AdSense pay UK publishers by bank transfer?
Yes. Google's payment table marks EFT and wire transfer as available for the United Kingdom, for both AdSense and YouTube. EFT pays into your bank in British pounds after a test deposit.
Can I get an AdSense cheque in the UK?
No. Google's table marks check as unavailable for the United Kingdom, so EFT or wire are the options to plan around.
What is the AdSense payment threshold in pounds?
Google's table shows ten pounds to select a payment method and sixty pounds before a payment is made.
How long does an AdSense PIN take to reach the UK?
Google says a PIN usually takes about three weeks by international standard mail, and you can ask for a replacement if it hasn't turned up by then.
Does a UK YouTuber need to give US tax details?
YouTube says all monetising creators must provide tax info, and non-US creators face withholding between zero and thirty on earnings from US viewers, depending on treaty status. Ask a UK accountant how it applies to you.
