That makes a check a poor fit if your postal address is unreliable, and a reasonable fall-back if your bank is awkward about incoming wires. Most publishers I hear from choose the wire because there's nothing to lose in the post.

Choosing between the two

Does your bank accept incoming international wires without fuss? And can you wait the longer stretch that a check involves? A yes to the first and third makes a check workable. A yes to the second makes a wire the easier choice, because the money goes straight to an account you already control.
Whichever you pick, set it up before the 20th of the month. Changes made after that date only take effect in the following month's payment cycle, which is an easy way to lose a month without noticing.
