Durable Alternatives (2026): 9 AI Website Builders

The main alternatives for a quick AI-built website split into three kinds: AI-first builders that write the site for you, classic website builders that have added AI, and simple one-page or startup builders. Before you pick, check the domain is in your name, that you can export your text and images, and where the free route publishes.

You run a cleaning firm, a salon or a one-van plumbing business, and you want a website that's live by tonight, not in a few weeks' time.

That's the promise Durable makes, and plenty of AI builders now make it too. If you're looking around, it's usually because you want more control, a booking or shop feature, or a builder you'd feel safer leaving later. The nine options below are in no particular order: the list first, then the one question to ask before you commit, then how they group.

Nine AI website builders for local businesses

Alphabetical, in no particular order.

B12

Best for: Service businesses that want a site built by chatting with AI, with logins, payments, bookings, intake forms and email marketing added when they ask.

Dorik

Best for: Small businesses happy to start on a free plan, with design, AI and SEO tools, upgrading later for custom domains and white-label branding (vendor wording).

Hocoos

Best for: Online businesses that want an AI-built site quickly, along with a bundle of sales and marketing tools in the same account (vendor claim).

Hostinger AI Website Builder

Best for: Owners who'd rather have the builder and hosting from one company, with a large template library and an AI assistant for online stores (vendor claim).

Jimdo

Best for: Local businesses taking bookings or selling online that want site, shop, logo, SEO and analytics tied to one customer database (page wording).

Mixo

Best for: Sole traders who want a complete AI-built site with pages, enquiry forms, a blog and optimisation for AI search, with a free plan the page says exists.

Strikingly

Best for: Anyone who needs a mobile-friendly single page or small site, with e-commerce built in and round-the-clock support, according to the vendor.

Unicorn Platform

Best for: Founders building SaaS landing pages, directories or blogs who want drag and drop with an AI design co-pilot (vendor claim).

Webnode

Best for: Small businesses that want AI to draft the text, images and layout, or would rather start from a template, free to start (vendor claim).

What you can take with you when you leave

Here's the question most sole traders don't ask until it's too late: if I leave this builder, what comes with me? Many hosted builders keep the site inside their own app. There's no file to download and hand to someone else, so leaving later can mean rebuilding page by page.

Ask three things before you build. First, is the domain registered in your name, so you can point it somewhere else? Second, can you export your text and images in a form you can reuse? Third, does the free route let you publish on your own domain, or only on the builder's subdomain?

The vendors' own pages show why the third question matters. Dorik's FAQ says upgrading from its free plan is what adds custom domains and white-label branding. Webnode and Strikingly both sell themselves as free to start, which is handy for trying them, but check what the free route includes before you print your web address on a van.

None of this makes a builder bad. It just means the choice isn't only about how fast the first draft appears. Keep your own copy of every photo and every page of text in a folder on your computer, and the move, if it ever comes, is a long afternoon rather than a lost month.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

AI-first, classic with AI, or a single page

AI-first builders. These write the first version of your site for you. B12 builds sites, stores and web apps by chat, with client intake forms, a contact manager and email marketing alongside. Mixo builds a full small business site with enquiry forms, a blog and optimisation for AI search. Hocoos pairs its builder with sales and marketing tools. Hostinger's AI builder comes bundled with its hosting, with an AI assistant for online stores. The free-to-start AI platform with the custom domain upgrade belongs here too.

Classic builders with AI added. Jimdo is an all-in-one small business tool where bookings, smart enquiry forms and an online shop connect to one customer database. The two free-to-start builders from the previous section sit here as well, with AI help added to familiar template editors.

One-page and startup builders. Unicorn Platform is a drag-and-drop builder aimed at founders, for landing pages, directories and blogs, with an AI design assistant. It's a better fit for a product launch than for a local trade.

My advice for sole traders and local firms

Choose for what your customers need to do on the site. If they mostly ring or fill in a form, any of the AI-first builders will get you live quickly. If they book appointments or buy from you, look at the builders with bookings and a shop built in. If you're launching a product rather than serving a local area, a startup page builder is the lighter choice.

Then run the three ownership questions past your top two before you write a word. If you're weighing up other website builders as well, my roundups of Wix alternatives and Carrd alternatives cover the wider field.

Moving an existing site across

If you already have a site, don't switch it off on day one. Build the new one on the builder's temporary address, copy your text across page by page and keep your page names the same where you can, so customers who've bookmarked a page still find it.

When the new site's ready, point your domain at it, check the contact form sends to the right inbox, and look at every page on your phone. Keep the old one running quietly for a little while in case you've missed something. Search engines will catch up on their own, and a short, tidy move keeps the enquiries coming in while they do.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move a website from one AI builder to another?

Rarely in one click. Your domain can move if it's registered in your name, and your text and images can be copied, but the design usually has to be rebuilt in the new builder.

Do I own my domain with a website builder?

It depends on how you bought it. If you registered it through the builder, check whose name it's in and how to transfer it. Registering it yourself keeps you in control.

Is a free website builder good enough for a small business?

It's fine for trying a builder out. For a business, check whether the free route lets you use your own domain, because a builder's subdomain looks less trustworthy to customers.

Can an AI website builder write my content?

Yes, most will draft text and pick images for you. Read every word before you publish, because it won't know your opening hours, service area or what makes you different.

Is a Google Business Profile enough without a website?

A profile helps people find you locally, but a website gives you space to explain your services, show your work and collect enquiries on your own terms. Most local firms benefit from both.

Will an AI-built website rank on Google?

It can, if the pages describe what you do and where you work in plain words. Check you can edit page titles and descriptions, and add new pages as your business grows.
