Driving school software books lessons, takes payments and tracks each pupil's progress, and it's more local than most booking software. UK tools track pupils against DVSA skills, while US tools deal with state record systems. Choose by country first, then by whether you're a solo instructor or a school. Seven follow, in no particular order.
Which country do you teach in? It sounds like an odd first question for a software list, but for driving schools it's the one that decides almost everything else.
The seven tools below are sorted alphabetically and in no particular order, and I've grouped them by who they suit further down. Each description is from the vendor's own website, as of Nov 2026.

Driving School Manager

Best for: Growing schools that want lesson scheduling, billing and staff management, with a Vehicle Manager add-on that assigns cars to lessons and post-lesson notes.
Solo instructor, UK school or US school?
Independent instructors. My Driving Trainer and Driving Instructor CRM are built for one person with a diary. One gives you a booking link to share; the other is a packaged website and pupil CRM, which its page presents as a ready-made blueprint.
UK schools and busy instructors. DriveSchoolPro and Driving School Manager are UK-focused, with pupil apps, portals and progress tracking. One of them says on its page that it tracks 27 DVSA skills across eight categories.
US schools. DrivingSchoolSoftware.com mentions state record systems such as Michigan CARS and Massachusetts ATLAS data entry, and its page says it's used by driver education professionals across the US and Canada.
General platforms. Drive Scout is an all-in-one school app, and Teachworks is a wider education business platform with a dedicated driving school offer, which helps if you also run theory classes or other lessons.
Why the country matters more than the feature list
A tool built for the wrong country can look fine in a demo and still leave you retyping records every week. The progress model a UK instructor uses isn't the one a US school reports to its state, and the paperwork is different again. So before anything else, ask the vendor how it handles records for your region, and ask to see it.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
There's a UK reason to keep those records tidy, too. GOV.UK's guidance for approved driving instructors says you'll face at least one standards check every 4 years and renew your registration every 4 years. Having lesson records and pupil progress in one place makes that easier to live with. Requirements vary by country and change over time, so check the regulator where you teach.
If your school also runs classroom sessions, my guide to class booking software covers group bookings, and the wider list of booking software helps if you only need a diary.
Questions to ask before you move your pupils over
- Is the software built for my country, and how does it handle local progress or state records?
- Can pupils book, cancel and pay themselves, within notice limits I set?
- Does it stop instructors or cars being double booked?
- Can pupils and parents see progress and lesson notes?
- How is it charged: per instructor, per pupil or per school?
- Can I export pupil records, lesson history and payments if I leave?
Do you make driving school or instructor software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.
My plain advice for driving instructors and schools
Pick by country first, size second and features last. A solo instructor rarely needs a full school platform; a booking link, reminders and payments go a long way. A school with several instructors and cars needs conflict checks and a shared diary, or you'll spend evenings untangling double bookings. And if you teach in the US, make state record handling the first thing you see in any demo.
Whatever you choose, keep pupil progress in the same place as the bookings. It saves time on every lesson and makes your own record-keeping far less of a chore.

Frequently asked questions
What does driving school software do?
It books lessons, takes payments, sends reminders and tracks each pupil's progress. School versions add instructor and vehicle schedules and staff management.
Is there driving school software made for the UK?
Yes. Some tools here are built for UK schools, with pupil apps and online booking, and one says on its page that it tracks pupils against DVSA skills.
What about driving school software in the US?
US tools tend to focus on in-car scheduling and state requirements, and some mention state record systems. Ask the vendor about your own state.
Do I need school software if I'm a solo instructor?
Usually not. A booking page with reminders and payments covers most solo instructors. School platforms earn their place once you have several instructors or cars.
Can pupils book and cancel lessons themselves?
Many tools allow self-booking and self-cancelling within notice limits you set, which cuts down on messages and missed lessons.
How do I avoid double booking instructors and cars?
Choose software that checks for conflicts across pupil, instructor and vehicle before a lesson is confirmed.
