TikTok says it may log you out if someone else is trying to remove an active device from your app settings. If that wasn't you, change your password straight away, then check your Save login info setting.
Being kicked out of TikTok over and over is maddening, and most advice online jumps straight to clearing this or reinstalling that. I'd rather tell you what TikTok itself says. I went through TikTok's help pages on logging in as of Nov 2026, and here's the honest picture: only one page deals directly with automatic logouts, and it names exactly one cause. Two related pages, on saving your login information and on hacked accounts, fill in the rest. Where they stop, I'll say so.
So this page runs in the order the sources point you: security first, then how TikTok remembers your login.
Start here: rule out someone else in your account
TikTok's page on being logged out automatically says it may log a user out if someone else is trying to remove an active device from the app settings. It goes on to say that if you haven't authorised this, your account may have been hacked, and that you should change your password immediately.
That's worth sitting with for a second. The one cause TikTok puts in writing isn't a bug. It's a security signal. So before you treat repeated logouts as a glitch, check whether anything else looks off.
TikTok's page on hacked accounts lists these signs of a possible hack:
- Your account password or phone number has been changed.
- Your account username or nickname has been changed.
- Your videos have been deleted or posted without your permission.
- Messages you didn't write were sent from your account.
If any of those ring true, or you simply can't explain the logouts, work through the next section now rather than later.
Lock your account down, in this order
These are TikTok's own protection steps, with the menu names exactly as TikTok gives them. The password comes first because that's what TikTok tells you to do immediately.
- Reset your password. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom, tap the Menu button at the top, then select Settings and privacy. Tap Account, tap Password, and change your password.
- Link your phone number. From Settings and privacy, tap Account, then Account Information, then Phone number, and link your number.
- Remove suspicious devices. From Settings and privacy, tap Security & permissions, then Manage devices. Review the devices listed and remove any that are unwanted or suspicious.
Notice the overlap between the last step and the logout cause. Manage devices is where your active devices live, and removing an active device is the exact action TikTok links to being logged out. If you see a phone or tablet in that list you don't recognise, that's your answer. There's more on logging someone else out of your TikTok account if you need to clear out a device you shared with someone. And if you've already been locked out and can't get back in, start with getting your TikTok account back instead.
Next: check how TikTok saves your login
If nothing looks suspicious, the next place TikTok's help pages point is your login settings. According to TikTok's page on saving your login information, it saves your login information by default so you don't need to enter it the next time you log in. But you can switch that off, either when you log in or from your settings.
At log in, there's an option called Save login info to log in automatically next time. If it's been unselected, TikTok won't log you in automatically. It'll still show your account the next time you log in, but you'll need to enter your password. If you're being asked for your password every time, that's the first thing I'd look at.
To check it from your settings, TikTok's steps are:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Security & permissions.
- Turn the Save login info setting on or off.
While you're in Settings and privacy, it's a good moment to run through your wider TikTok privacy settings too.

One more behaviour TikTok spells out: if you delete or reinstall the app, you'll automatically be logged into the last account you used. If you run more than one account, that can feel like being logged out of the one you wanted, when TikTok has simply picked the last one you used.
Where your iCloud or Google account comes in
TikTok says it stores your login information, such as your username, profile picture and preferred login method, in your iCloud or Google account. That information is saved across every device that logs in with the same iCloud or Google account.
This matters because removing an account from TikTok's login panel reaches further than the phone in your hand. TikTok says that when you remove an account, its login information is deleted from your iCloud or Google account and removed from all your linked devices. It also turns off the Save login info setting if you'd switched it on.
Imagine a family tablet signed into the same Google account as your phone. If someone removes your TikTok account from the login panel on that tablet, TikTok's description means the saved login goes from your phone too. Here's how removal works, so you can recognise it:
- Android: go to the login panel in the TikTok app, tap Manage accounts at the bottom, tap Delete next to the account, then tap Remove to confirm.
- iOS: go to the login panel in the TikTok app, tap Delete next to the account, then tap Remove to confirm.
What TikTok's help pages don't say
This is the part most guides skip, so I'll be blunt. The TikTok pages I read don't list any of the following as a cause of being logged out, and I'm not going to pretend they do:
- Clearing the cache or running low on storage.
- An out-of-date app version.
- Using a VPN.
- Your phone's date and time settings.
- Anything about your phone's own password keychain.
They also don't say how long a TikTok session lasts before you're asked to log in again, and they don't offer any fix for a glitch logout beyond the steps above. If your situation doesn't fit the security cause or the login settings, the straight answer is that TikTok hasn't published a reason. Its help pages do show a Chat with us option, and that's the right place to take it next.
Quick answers
Why does TikTok log me out on its own?
TikTok says it may log you out if someone else is trying to remove an active device from the app settings. If you didn't do that, it says your account may have been hacked and you should change your password immediately.
Does reinstalling TikTok log me out?
TikTok says that if you delete or reinstall the app, you'll automatically be logged into the last account you used. If you chose not to save your login information, you'll need to enter your password.
Where's the Save login info setting?
Tap Profile at the bottom, tap the Menu button, select Settings and privacy, then tap Security & permissions and turn Save login info on or off.
Could being logged out mean I've been hacked?
It can. TikTok links automatic logouts to someone trying to remove an active device, and lists changed passwords, changed usernames, videos you didn't post and messages you didn't write as signs of a hack.
