Facebook Top Fan Badges (2026): Who Can Use Them and How to Turn Them On

Top fan and rising fan badges are switched off by default, and Facebook Help says they're only available to profiles with at least 10,000 followers, or to Pages and professional-mode profiles with at least 100 followers. As of Nov 2026 you turn them on from Manage fan badges or the Fan engagement tools, and you can only remove a badge in the Facebook app on a phone or tablet.

A badge is the label that sits next to someone's name when they interact with your posts. Help says people who qualify for and accept a top fan or top commenter badge have it next to their name when they interact with your Page's content. It's a small, public nod to your regulars, and most of the confusion is about who's allowed to switch it on.

Who can switch fan badges on

The thresholds depend on what kind of account you have. Here's how they line up as of Nov 2026:

WhoMinimum followersWhere to switch badges on
Profile10,000Options below your profile name, then Manage fan badges
Profile in professional mode100Menu, then Professional dashboard, then Fan engagement tools
Page, on a computer100Options below the cover picture, then Fan engagement under Your tools
Page, on a phone100Professional dashboard, then Fan engagement, then the Settings tab

The gap between those numbers is the useful bit. A personal profile needs 10,000 followers, but a profile in professional mode needs 100, and so does a Page. If you're not sure which one your business should be running, my Facebook Page vs profile comparison goes through it. If you switched on professional mode just to try this and want to go back, here's how to turn off professional mode.

Two more catches. Help says some features may not be available to you at this time, so reaching the number isn't a guarantee you'll see the setting. And to manage badges for a Page, you need Facebook access to that Page.

Help also flags a rename. The Professional dashboard has changed, and you'll now see Creator Dashboard or Business Dashboard on Facebook. Help's own steps still say Professional dashboard, so if you can't find it, look for one of the new names.

How a fan earns a badge

Help says that when you turn badges on, your most active followers may become eligible. Actions that may qualify someone can include liking, sharing, reacting to and commenting on your posts and updates.

Notice the word "may", twice. Help doesn't publish a formula, a minimum number of comments or a time window. So treat a badge as Facebook's signal that someone is among your most active followers, not as a score anyone can work out. The other detail is consent: the badge shows for people who qualify and accept it. Someone can qualify and simply not take it.

Turn badges on for your Page

From a computer, as of Nov 2026, Facebook Business Help gives these steps for a Page:

  1. Log in to Facebook and click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Go to your Page's profile and click Options below the cover picture.
  4. Click Fan engagement in the left drop-down menu, below Your tools.
  5. Click the toggle next to Top fan to turn the badges on.

On a phone, tap Menu or your profile picture, tap Options and choose the Page. Then tap Menu or the Page's profile picture and tap Professional dashboard, tapping See more first if you need to. Below Tools, tap Fan engagement, open the Settings tab and use the toggle next to Top fan. Help says top fan badges can be managed from a computer or a phone, but top commenter badges can only be managed from a mobile device, so the phone route is the one to use if you want both.

For a profile in professional mode, Help's route is Menu in the top-right corner, then Professional dashboard, then Fan engagement tools, where you toggle Top fan, Rising fan or both. For the other route, click your profile picture, then your name, then Options below your profile name and Manage fan badges.

Remove a badge from someone

Sometimes you'd rather a badge didn't sit next to a particular name. Help says you can only remove a badge with the Facebook app for Android, iPhone or iPad. There's no computer route. The steps:

  1. In the Facebook app, tap Menu.
  2. Go to a post on your Page or profile that has a comment from the top fan or rising fan.
  3. Tap the badge next to their name.
  4. Tap Remove top fan badge or Remove rising fan badge.

For a Page, Facebook Business Help adds a step at the start: tap Menu or your profile picture, tap Options and choose the Page, then find the fan's comment. Top commenter badges come off the same way, with Remove top commenter badge.

If you can't find a recent comment from them, the same badge tap gives you See all top fans or See all rising fans. Go to the profile whose badge you want to remove, tap Options and remove it from there.

Custom badge names

Pages can rename the top fan badge, but Help says the feature is gradually rolling out and may not be available to all creators yet. If you've had a notification about setting up a custom badge, you're eligible now. To find it, log in, click your profile photo, click See all profiles and choose the Page, click your Page's profile picture to go to your Page, then go to your badge settings.

The catches are all in the small print:

  • Your top fans get a notification and must accept the new name before it's displayed for them.
  • You can only change your custom badge name once a month.
  • It may take a few days for the new name to reach all of your fans.
  • You can go back to the default top fan name at any time. If you never set a custom name, nothing changes.

Because you only get one change a month, I'd settle on the name before you open the setting. Pick something your regulars would be happy to see next to their own name.

What I'd do with fan badges on a business Page

I'd switch top fan badges on as soon as a Page passes 100 followers. They're off by default, so if you've never touched the setting, yours are off, and a badge is a free, public thank you to the people who already turn up in your comments.

I'd skip the custom name until the default badges have been running for a while and you know who your regulars are. Skip trying to engineer badges with a posting formula, too: Help doesn't publish one. And if you're after earning from your audience rather than recognising it, that's a different set of features, covered in my guide to Facebook's monetisation tools.

If you want your Facebook Page to recognise its regulars and keep them coming back, that's the kind of social media strategy I help with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
