Yes, there's a Grammarly student discount, but it comes through SheerID verification rather than a coupon: as of Nov 2026, Grammarly says eligible users can save up to $72 on Grammarly Pro, which it describes as half off, and both students and graduate students are on the list. Grammarly also says it doesn't provide discounts as coupons or codes, so a code you find online isn't a Grammarly offer.
Before you apply, there's one check that can save you the whole subscription: find out whether your school already pays for Grammarly.
Check your school's Grammarly for Education licence
Some schools and universities buy Grammarly for Education. If yours has, you join its licence and get the advanced features through your school. Grammarly lists three ways in:
- Sign in through your school's identity provider, such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace, if it uses one.
- Sign up with your school email address at grammarly.com/enterprise/signup. If your school has a licence, or buys one later, you'll be prompted to join it.
- Accept an invitation email titled 'You're invited to join', followed by your school's name and 'on Grammarly for Education', then click Activate My Account.
If you're not prompted to join after signing up, Grammarly suggests asking your school's administration or IT support. One short email to IT can make the discount question irrelevant.
Who qualifies through SheerID
Here's the surprise: it isn't only students. When I checked, Grammarly's SheerID page listed nine groups:
- Graduate Students
- Students
- Educators (K-12 faculty)
- Educators (University and post-secondary faculty)
- Young Adults
- Military
- First Responders
- Healthcare Workers
- Seniors
So if you're a mature student who also works in healthcare, or a teacher studying part time, there's more than one door. Each application goes in under your own name, though, and SheerID flags a second one in the same year (more on that below).
How to apply, step by step
- Check your school licence first. If you're covered, stop here.
- Open Grammarly's promo offers on SheerID page in its help centre and choose your group.
- Fill in the application and type your school or organisation's full name, with no abbreviations.
- Upload an official document from your institution if SheerID asks for one. Verification can take up to seven business days.
- Watch for an email from SheerID, sent from [email protected], with your discount as a promo link.
- Use the promo link to upgrade. It works with whichever email address you prefer, not only the one you applied with.
- Put the renewal date in your diary the same day you upgrade.
If the promo link won't work, Grammarly suggests opening it in an incognito window and clicking it again. If your application is turned down, contact SheerID Support; Grammarly says it has no control over the verification process.
When your school isn't on the SheerID list
Grammarly has a whole article for this, which tells you how often it happens.
- Keep typing your school's full name in the Organization or School Name field. Don't use abbreviations.
- If your school is listed but the site misbehaves, try a different browser and turn off any ad blockers.
- Ask SheerID to add your school. It reviews requests within 30 days and tells you the result, and Grammarly can't affect that decision.
- If you see 'Verification Limit Exceeded', an application in your name has already been received this year. Contact SheerID's customer service if you never got your discount link or lost the email.
The fine print, and what happens at renewal
| Rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| One subscription period only | After that, the plan renews at the standard rate |
| First seat only | Any extra seats are charged at the standard rate |
| Can't be combined | No stacking with other offers |
| No earlier purchases | You can't apply it to a plan you've already bought |
| Website purchases only | Not for App Store or Google Play purchases |
The renewal is the one to plan for. Grammarly's billing policy says subscriptions renew automatically at the standard rate using the payment method on file. Grammarly's pricing page lists Pro, as of Nov 2026, at $30 per member per month, $60 per member for three months, or $144 per member per year. I won't work out a discounted price for you, because the saving is up to $72 and depends on the plan you pick. The default currency is the US dollar, and Grammarly says regional rates in euros, British pounds and Indian rupees are shown during checkout.
If you'd rather avoid a surprise, you can cancel automatic renewal at any time after you upgrade, and you'll keep Pro to the end of the period you paid for.
Coupon codes you'll see online
Search for a Grammarly discount and you'll hit coupon sites. Grammarly's help centre is blunt: it 'does not provide discounts in the form of coupons or other codes', and a promo code you found online isn't a promotional offer from Grammarly. The only other official route it mentions is occasional promotions for some email subscribers, which you can opt in to through the special-offer emails setting on your Profile page.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
If you're mainly after free grammar checks, the free version may be enough; here's what you get when you ask is Grammarly free. If you'd rather try Pro first, see when Grammarly runs a free trial. For student deals beyond Grammarly, there's a list of apps with student discounts.
What I'd do
I'd check my school licence first, because if your institution already pays, the best-value Grammarly is the one you don't buy. If there's no licence, apply through SheerID with your official document ready, and set a reminder for the renewal date the moment you upgrade. Skip any coupon site: Grammarly's own help centre says those codes aren't its offers.
Offers and rates change, so check Grammarly's help centre for the latest; the figures above are as of Nov 2026.
If you're choosing writing and AI tools for a team and want to stop paying for overlap, that's the kind of AI enablement I help with. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.
