AI Tools for CFOs (2026): 10 Finance Platforms to Look At

AI tools for CFOs are finance platforms with AI built in: planning and modelling, the general ledger and close, invoice processing, revenue operations and cash collection. For a small or mid-sized company, start with whichever part of finance takes the most manual effort. Ten options follow in no particular order, described from their own pages as of Oct 2026.

A CFO at a growing company rarely needs another dashboard. What helps is a shorter close, a forecast that isn't a spreadsheet marathon and fewer invoices keyed in by hand. That's where the AI in these tools is aimed.

The ten platforms below cover different parts of the finance stack, so they aren't all rivals. Each is described from its own page, without the vendors' hours-saved or ROI claims, and nothing here is a promise about audits or compliance.

Ten AI platforms a finance lead can look at

Abacum

Best for: Finance leads who want an AI Modeler that builds financial models in plain language, with no formulas needed.

Aleph

Best for: Teams who live in spreadsheets and want an AI agent plus no-code connectors that sync ERP, HRIS, CRM and other data into one planning system.

Campfire

Best for: Growing companies that want a general ledger with multi-entity consolidation, built-in close checklists, flux analysis and reconciliation, plus revenue automation.

Concourse

Best for: Finance leaders who want to build, share and govern AI agents across treasury, planning, accounting and internal audit work.

Cube

Best for: CFOs who want AI agents for data, analysis, planning and business partnering that work across their existing FP&A tools and workflows.

Puzzle

Best for: Startups that want AI-native accounting software with accounting services layered on when needed, and an MCP link to Claude and ChatGPT.

Rillet

Best for: Controllers and CFOs who want a live general ledger with continuous close, where checklists, reconciliations and flux drafts run all month.

Tabs

Best for: B2B companies that want billing, collections, ASC 606 revenue recognition and reporting automated, with the controls accounting teams need.

Tesorio

Best for: Heads of finance who want AI agents across order-to-cash, drafting collection follow-ups, applying cash and supporting forecasting and supplier portals.

Vic.ai

Best for: Enterprise accounting teams who want AI-first invoice processing and accounts payable automation, with AI agents and analytics on the same platform.

Where AI lands in the finance stack

Read the headlines on the vendors' own pages and the stack sorts itself. Cube calls itself an 'Agentic FP&A Platform', Abacum 'The AI-Native FP&A Platform' and Aleph 'AI-native FP&A software & data management for finance'. Rillet and Campfire both use 'The AI-Native ERP', and Puzzle says 'AI Accounting Software & Accounting Services'. On the money-in and money-out sides, Vic.ai offers 'AI-First Invoice Processing', Tabs 'Revenue Automation for B2B' and Tesorio 'Agentic Financial Operations'. Concourse sums its pitch up as 'AI transformation for finance'.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Put together, that's four layers of the finance function:

  • Planning (FP&A). Forecasts, models and variance analysis. AI here builds models from plain language and explains what moved.
  • The ledger and the close. AI-native ERPs and accounting tools that keep the books current and run reconciliations through the month, not all at the end.
  • Payables and revenue. Invoice processing on the way out, and billing, collections and revenue recognition on the way in.
  • Cash and treasury. Collections agents, cash application and cash forecasting, plus agent platforms that reach across several of these.

What to ask before finance hands work to an AI agent

  1. Which systems does it connect to? You'll want your ERP, CRM, payroll and bank feeds covered.
  2. Can your team see and approve what an agent did before it posts to the ledger?
  3. Does it keep an audit trail your auditors can follow? Ask the vendor to show you, rather than relying on the page.
  4. Does it replace a system you already run, or sit on top of it?
  5. Who on your team will own it day to day, and who'll check its work?
  6. What happens to your data and models if you'd like to move on?

If you're weighing in-house finance against outside help, my piece on the benefits of a virtual CFO is worth a look, and AI automation for month-end bookkeeping goes deeper on the close.

My advice on choosing where to start

Don't shop for AI for finance in general. Choose the one process that eats the most hours each month, whether that's the close, accounts payable, collections or the forecast, and look only at the tools built for it. It's worth asking each vendor to show you the controls, the approvals and the audit trail on your own data, and run a contained pilot before anything touches the ledger.

Frequently asked questions

What can AI do for a CFO?

On the pages of the tools listed here, AI builds financial models from plain language, runs reconciliations, processes invoices, drafts collection follow-ups and answers questions about the numbers. Your team still reviews and approves the work.

What's the difference between AI planning software and an AI-native ERP?

Planning software handles forecasts, models and scenarios on top of your accounting data. An AI-native ERP is the accounting system itself: the general ledger, the close and often payables and receivables.

Do AI finance tools keep an audit trail?

Many finance platforms describe controls and audit trails, but nothing on a vendor page guarantees an audit outcome. Ask to see the approvals and logs on your own data, and check with your auditors.

Should a small company start with planning or the close?

Start with whichever takes the most manual effort. If month-end drags, look at the ledger and close. If the forecast lives in a fragile spreadsheet, look at planning first.

Do these tools replace a finance team?

No, and they don't claim to. The pages describe AI that takes on repetitive work such as matching, drafting and reconciling, with people setting the rules and approving the results.

Can AI finance tools connect to ChatGPT or Claude?

Some can. It's a newer feature, and a few pages describe MCP connections that let you ask questions about your books from an AI assistant. Check what access the connection needs before you switch it on.
