Wix POS: Card Readers, Setup and Taking Payment in Person

Wix POS lets you take card payments in person through a Wix card reader that's paired to your site, so the sale lands in the same dashboard as your online orders. As of October 2026, the reader Wix sells is the Wix POS Go, and Wix's help centre says it's only available in the US, Canada and UK.

Two things decide whether Wix POS works for you before you buy anything. First, it runs on Wix Payments, so you have to connect that payment provider before a reader will do anything. Second, the POS Go used on its own only works with Wix Stores. To take in-person payments for Wix Bookings or Wix Restaurants, you pair the reader with one of Wix's POS solutions on a computer or tablet.

If you already own a Desktop Card Reader, it still pairs and still collects payment. If you're starting fresh, the POS Go is the one you'll be buying.

Before you pair a reader

Wix sets the order out plainly, and skipping a step is the usual reason pairing stalls. You connect to Wix Payments, then activate Wix POS as a payment method by going to POS Home in your dashboard and clicking Activate. Only after that do you order the reader from the Wix POS shop and set it up in your dashboard.

The WiFi rule matters too. When you use the reader with Desktop POS, POS Checkout or POS Register, the reader and your computer or tablet must sit on the same WiFi network. A café with a guest network and a staff network is exactly where this goes wrong.

How to set up the Wix POS Go

  1. Connect your site to Wix Payments.
  2. Go to POS Home in your site's dashboard and click Activate to switch on Wix POS as a payment method.
  3. Order your Wix POS Go from the Wix POS shop.
  4. Unbox the reader, insert the battery and charge it if you need to.
  5. Go to POS Home and click Pair Reader. If it's not your first reader, pair it from Point of Sale Settings instead.
  6. Turn the reader on, select your language and country, and click Next on the POS Home pop-up.
  7. Pick your WiFi network. If the reader doesn't open WiFi settings itself, swipe right from the edge of the screen, tap Settings, enter the admin PIN shown in Wix's help article and select Network.
  8. Enter the three-word code from the reader screen into the POS Home pop-up, hyphens included. If no code shows, swipe right, tap Settings and select Generate pairing code.
  9. Give the reader a name if you'll run more than one, then click Pair Reader.
  10. Log in to your Wix account on the reader by QR code, Google or email, and pick the site if you have several.

Once you've logged in for the first time, the POS Go stays logged in so it remains connected to your store. Paired readers show up in Point of Sale Settings, which is where you'll manage them from then on.

Where you collect payment in the dashboard

With the Desktop Card Reader solution, every in-person payment starts from a Collect Payment button, and there are several of them. Which one you use depends on what you're charging for.

From the Orders tab

Sales from Wix Stores, Wix Bookings and Wix Restaurants Orders all appear in Orders. Select the unpaid order, click Collect Payment, select Charge with card reader and have your customer tap, swipe or insert their card. Before you charge, you can open More Actions, select Edit Order and add a fee, a tip or a discount. Orders is the only place Wix mentions adding a tip, so start there if tipping matters to you.

From the Booking Calendar

If you run appointments through Wix Bookings, you can charge straight from the calendar. For an appointment, click it and select Collect Payment. For a class or course, select the service, click Manage, then click Collect Payment next to the participant.

From your Contact List

Go to Contacts, hover over the client and click View, then open the Bookings tab. Any unpaid Wix Bookings service has its own Collect Payment button. It's handy when a regular walks in and you'd rather find them by name than by date.

From a custom order

If you use Wix Stores or Wix Bookings, you can create an order by hand with store products, booking services or any custom item. It then sits in the Orders tab and you collect payment the same way as any other order. That's how you'd charge for something that isn't listed on your site.

When the reader won't pair or connect

Wix's troubleshooting lists a short set of causes. Work through them in this order.

  • The reader is turned off, or its battery has no charge.
  • The reader and your computer are on different WiFi networks. Both need the same one.
  • Your integration can't communicate with Stripe, which Wix links to its own fix.
  • The reader is hitting DNS errors when it connects, which points to your network's DNS configuration.

There's one more that catches people out. If your computer shuts down mid-sale and you start the checkout again, the reader can get stuck on the previous sale and refuse to reconnect. Go to Point of Sale Settings, scroll to Dashboard POS readers, click the More Actions icon next to the reader, then click Force reconnect reader and confirm.

Should you use Wix POS?

I'd use Wix POS if you're in the US, Canada or UK, you already sell through Wix Stores or Wix Bookings, and you want in-person sales sitting in the same Orders tab as everything else. I'd skip it if you're outside those three countries, since the POS Go isn't available to you, or if your till runs on a separate system that you're happy with. If you're still comparing, my guide to Shopify POS covers the obvious alternative.

Pairing a reader once is quick. Reconciling in-person and online sales by hand every week isn't, and that's the kind of routine admin I help small businesses automate. I run AI training and workshops for teams, and help businesses with AI enablement and workflow automation, so the busywork runs itself and people get time back. Most of that work is with SaaS marketing teams and small businesses. Here's how we can work together.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries can use the Wix POS Go?

As of October 2026, Wix says the Wix POS Go card reader is only available in the US, Canada and UK.

Do I need Wix Payments for Wix POS?

Yes. You need to connect to the Wix Payments payment provider and activate Wix POS as a payment method before you can use a Wix card reader.

Can I use the Wix POS Go for bookings?

On its own, the Wix POS Go only works with Wix Stores. With the Desktop POS or POS Register solutions, you can collect payments for Wix Stores, Wix Bookings and Wix Restaurants (New).

Can I still buy the Wix Desktop Card Reader?

No. Wix says the Desktop Card Reader is no longer for sale and points you to the Wix POS Go instead.

Why won't my Wix card reader pair?

The most common causes are that the reader is off or out of charge, or that the reader and your computer are on different WiFi networks. Wix also lists Stripe communication problems and DNS errors.
